Just tried to meditate

Well right now it's impossible, i had to swallow my spit every 20 seconds to 1 minute, it forced me as i was on my back laying on my bed. I think i'll "try" again, hopefully i can ignore the unbarable itching, i mean UNBEARABLE!!! well except this time i was not itching badly but gotta retrain my eyes to stop rolling.:roll:

Anyway how slow can you stop your heart? my first 3 times (days) meditating and didn't know what to do i could almost stop my heart, literally. Annoying having to breathe so shallow just to get some air. Anyway i'll "try" doing it every night but no promises, i'm quite inpatient, even when i feel my body starting to warm up and get really numb.

If you get those itches and notice the swallowing then there are a few problems:

- Lying down isn't the best position for meditation, let alone since you can drift off to sleep
- You aren't focusing enough, or you wouldn't notice anything, just like I'm sure you weren't constantly assaulted by saliva or itches while writing that post

What do you use as a focus when meditating? Breathing, a single thought, music?

Actually...i am itching right now. I dunno what it is but i itch alot when i'm not active. Active, i'm hardly ever itchy.


I change it up..sometimes i just close my eyes and stop thinking. Although when i had my eyes closed at 1 points when i had my eyes closed i tried to look away and my eyes forced itself to keep looking at a certain spot, i tried fighting this but it went away. Sometimes i listen to music, sometimes i listen to that imagination thing where you close your eyes and imagine your at a forest and pretend to walk along and make yourself feel as if your there, that so didn't work out and was kinda..lame. Atleast to me. I breathe sometimes, other times i dont breathe as much and kinda hold it in because i dont feel like i wanna take a breath for a while (doesn't affect me) sometimes i can hold my breath for a minute and it's like i just took a deep breath and feel like i can last another 5 minutes not breathing, but that's rare, and i didn'tt ake a deep breath, just stopped breathing. Kinda weird how things like these work out, huh?

Hm, I'm not sure it is working out. I mean...the point in meditation is to empty your mind as much as possible. Breathing consciously requires you to think. In meditation when focusing on breathing, you don't really as much "focus" on it but rather use it "as a focus" in order to keep your mind on one thought and slowly put it into a state of peace and quiet. At that point, the breathing becomes as independent of your thoughts as it is when you're doing other activities.

So, if you're holding your breath...you're thinking too much, if you're imagining a vivid landscape...well, there are techniques that use that but in essence, that's a bit too active unless it leads you into a state of mental peace eventually and you stop being as focused on it.

As for the itching when not active...not to be rude but just blatant: when was the last time you took a shower? >.>

Lol i shower 5 days a week in the mornings, sometiems 6, or even 7, wash my clothes 2 times a week, bedsheets, carpet, underarm 7 days a week, cologne aswell etc. All clean, i'm not the unclean kind of person.

As for the other part....hmmm. Kinda confused..think, don't think? i can turn it on and off fast sometimes, atleast if i turn it off i dunno what i'm thinking about because it's all blank. After reading AP noway am i going to change everything in my life for something as simple as possibly "dreaming" if that's what it is, i just wanna see what OBE is and what all the fuss is about.

the problem is that your so worried about accomplishing something with meditation...its causing you problems....All i do is watch the picture that is in my head or the various images that appears and im not worried about anything else

the true pupose of meditation, is to let go of body and mind, so that you can discover your "inner (or "true") self"; aka, discovering your center.

deep meditation, will lead to enlightenment.

meditation, is not just a bunch of techiniques to calm the mind, or to deal with stress.

understand the purpose of it, then forget it.

you cannot approach the inner self directly, using techniques will get you there, but you have to be focused on the techniques 1,000,000%.

do not focus on your swallowing, or on your eyes.

firstly, your eyes need to adjust to the darkness, before you go into Med. otherwise, they will twitch like little bitc*es. 20 minutes beforehand, in a pitch black, or almost P.B. room, will calm the eyes.

secondly, your breathing. you will need to work on your breathing a couple of times, as to condition it.

for the first couple of med. sessions, just take deep breaths, as if you are in a deep sleep.

do this for 30 minutes. then stop. it will reinforce the breathing technique dramatically.
do this once or twice a day, for 2 or 3 days.

after this, try progressing.
whilst starting the meditation, now (after the couple of days), be aware of your breathing, take a couple of deeps breaths, then let it go its own path. whether fast, or slow, deep, or shallow.

thirdly, the itching. focusing on any part of your body, will sap attention towards it, and energy will also move to that point.

be demanding. its your body. insignifigant itching, is the mind, urging the body to move on, so that it can continue thinking and functioning as it usually does.

you are the master of your mind. your mind is not you. dont let it have control of your body.

ignore the itching. and dont think about ignoring it, that will just make it unbearable. just stop thinking about it. and concentrate, on, nothing, ie. meditation.

Aye, pretty much what I was trying to say but didn't get to, hahah.
The "point" of meditation of course isn't just relaxing but the "point" of the technique used to achieve a state of meditation is to be focused on the mind while ignoring the body and all else. You basically escape into a mental state, leaving the physical state and the world around behind as much as possible.

The itching during meditation is kind of funny. You can go weeks without being itchy, but the moment you sit down to meditate, it feels like you're crawling with bugs!

Clearly this is some kind of trick. Remember that and just get past it. It's a pretty weak trick.

Well, i am not letting go of my burden, is that also one of the steps?
I can't let go of my burden, seriously. I just wanna try it to see the stuff you can do, don't really care about the "be 1 in yourself" kinda stuff.

It's NOT just techniques for getting rid of things, or "making life easier".

Those just happen to be the side-effects of meditation.

Your burden,
is an illusion.

You create everything in your life.

Including all the "bad" things.

Realising that there is no burden, is much more effective, than trying to mask it.

No way, there are things bad beyond my controll but i aint getting into my personal life. You create everything, sure. If you're a go getter, or you're stuck with what you never made but what made you. If you don't create it, it will create you. Fact of life.

Nothing is beyond your control.

Regardless of where your beliefs are situated.


You, choose how to view things.

You, choose how you interpret everything.


You might say, you dislike someone, because they said you are an idiot.

I would say, it doesn't matter because life isn't about whether someone thinks you are an idiot.


I understand that this is the way i think.

It is realistic, whether or not it is believed.


As soon as something is out of your control, it becomes someone elses fault.

As soon as this is done, you can not reverse it, unless your thinking about that particular incident changes.

Ok, let's get back to the thread lol.

Try putting your tongue against the roof of your mouth this helps the saliva situation for me. Supposivly itching can be a side effect of concentration, sometimes when I get itchy I focus on the itching feeling, then it stops bothering me and goes away. But occasionally this will make it more intense and ill have to scratch it.

I suck at meditating, or rather I haven't tried hard enough *which is ironically the problem*. but then again cloudWalker so carefully used the right words to describe what it takes to meditate

its not about 'doing' something, such as 'controlling' your thoughts so you have no thoughts, as obviously the act of controlling your thoughts makes you...think :shock:

its much more about 'letting go'. let go of your thoughts

I can't let go unless I really want to, personally

visualizeing works much better for me than just emptying your mind. chose a seen and go into detal like the light being reflected off of what ever is there, what the ground feels like under your feet and the sounds the wind is causeing. also siting up is a better position
