      A strange experience

this happened last night. i was on the verge on going to sleep then i felt very strange, it's difficult to describe the feeling. i suppose the nearest i could say it was a heavy feeling.then my body vibrated and i could not move, i sensed that if i let myself go i would leave my body, so out of fear i resisted and then i regained full consciousness. could this have been an onset of an OBE?
i have experienced this in the past but not as powerful. maybe next time i will let go?

It is what some interpret as an OOBE and others as The Transitionphase between Waking and Sleep.

I would say you were in a very deep state of SP, still aware, and entered the transitionphase. I've experienced it myself very aware and vividly 5 times. Once I saw a bright white light, other times I didn't see anything at all and besides those 5 times I've witnessed Dreams already having faintly started.

In those 5 times I was still Conscious enough to experience and remember I went halfway through the Transitionphase which can be quite terrifying indeed. A feeling as if free falling down fast made me chicken out the time I saw the light. On other occasions I've also felt the terrifying falling sensation or a feeling of eerie immobilisation and as if I'm not getting any air/am suffocating sometimes accompanied with a pressure on the Chest( AKA "Old Hag" )

I think the difference in intensity with your recent experience and past experiences is due to the fact that this time you were much more aware in a much deeper state of Hypnagogia than usual.

I've had a few such experiences. They haven't been scary, they were a bit unpleasent. Usually the vibrations would be accompanied by this loud and annoying sound, like I'd be loging in an internet. So I'd stop that simply by lifting myself up out of the body. At other times that would stop by itself after a while and I would automatically be separated from my body and would slip onto the ground light as a feather.
So, if it happens again maybe you could try to get out of your body or simply wait and control your fear. I always try to keep in my mind that nothing bad can happen to me. And it never does.

I've experienced the vibrations at least four times myself, and they are definitely weird. I can see how some people find them intimidating. One time it felt like I was being pulled right off my bed by my feet, that was strange.

Ska is right, some people do feel that this is your energy body separating from your physical body, and is a way to induce the OOBE. This has always lead to vivid LD's for me, so in all honesty, I quite like the sensation. If you do experience it again, I recommend you try to play with it, or at laest sit back and experience it. The mind is a beautiful thing...

i've never gone that far. I tried to have OBE before but i never get those vibrations and that strong feeling. If i was on your place I would try to go out of my body next time and see what happens! u're lucky!
