This has been discussed about 2-3 millions times on DV. Somebody claimed that the wachowski brothers are lucid dreamers, which would explain where they got their idea from. The matrix and lucid dreaming are strikingly similar. |

haha! this sounds really geeky but does anyone think that maybe the concept of 'the matrix' is derived from the concept of lucid dreaming? - the idea that you can control and change what is happening and make anything happen only if you realise your potential? - by having a lucid dream are you actually realising your potential and therefore unleashing your capabilities to let the mental take over the physical? or am i babbling?!!!!! hmmmm any thoughts? |

THe brothers stated thier interest in alternate realities. I think it has t do with dreaming and lots of other things. |

Not - another - matrix - thread *twitch* |

Yeah i was thinking about that when i was watching matrix reloaded. There's a lot in common between the two and i think it is possible for the idea of the matrix to come from lucid dreaming. |
|
yeah, the reason why the last 2 sucked though was only because they didn't want to make it too complicated for the viewers since most film watchers are idiots these days. |

Existance has no beggining nor end, but will always have purpose.
I think the movie is more about the sterile modes of control than simply the 'dream' state. It shows the method of society, where the masses are used for nothing more than to feed the governing forces. |

In this crazy world if they don't consider you mad, then you have no confirmation of your own sanity, do you?
Imagine if this crazy world thought you were sane?! Oh my God, worst nightmare!

I got this idea from the "downloading information" part. I recently had a dream where I was using martial arts to overcome a foe. The next day I felt energized and as if I learned a new fighting style in my sleep... yes, this sounds very akward, but I was so much more aware of things around me the next day, and to this day. |
|
It pisses me off when people say "Hey, Lucid Dreaming is a lot like the matrix!" *Patronising Look* |
|
These are the tears that I dream about...
I think telekinesis and all the rest are kinda like the matrix concept. You can chage matter with your mind. |

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed."
- Albert Einstein
"We're so engaged in doing things to achieve purposes of outer value that we forget the inner value, the rapture that is associated with being alive, is what it is all about."
-Joseph Campbell
"He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilisation should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable love-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder."
-Albert Einstein
yeah, Dreaming isnt like being in the matrix at all really, at least i wouldn't think so. The only thing that DOES relate to it is that you can learn knew things in that different world. |

yeah, the matrix is like LDing but LDing is not like the matrix. this is because LDing has more to it because its real |

No, its because in an LD, you can will yourself to any place you want to go. Only the Smiths could that in the matrix, hahaha In an LD, you could make the world blow up by thinking it! our minds work in all sorts of different ways |
|
Yeah, that was why I edited the post right after. |

I watched a documentary where it explained that the matrix movie was derived from ideas long before the brothers produced the matrix series. Therefore the origin goes further back. |
|
Clearly. The true origin is not from today's society - I'm sure it's from philosophy collected throughout history. |
