creating wake life hallucination on purpose

I was talking to my friend when he got a brilliant idea like he always does he's idea was to create your own hallucination a person that would follow you around so that you can see... it? or him without any concentration so that this person would be around always (kind of sounds like I'm lonely dose it not?) anyways id like to create this hallucination on purpose so that its only this one person not many (or out of control) but i have no idea if this is even possible without drugs so I'm asking if anyone would be willing to help me or at least point me into right direction

oh i also heard of "beautiful mind" (movie) witch is based on true story that has something to do with hallucinations

I wouldn't do it if I were you. First, I think its somewhat impossible to do it without drugs. Second, it will mess up your life badly, as in if you take drugs to induce it, you'll have a hard time distinguishing between real people and hallucinations. Third, if you watched the movie, you would understand why it's a bad idea. Finally, why do you need an imaginery friend anyway? There are 6 billion people out there, just go out and make more friends :D

Let's put it this way, I'm not the one trying to have hallucinations on purpose for whatever reason(assumption is to always have a friend around) :P and you have NO CLUE how many friends I have, so, your assumption has no grounds :D I can easily claim to have more friends than you and I probably do, but, without facts to prove it, it's an irrelevant statement like yours :)

lol, your the one who mentioned that you have more friends than mine. I previously commented that its not a good idea and its better to have real friends than imagery ones. Did you watch a beautiful mind? The guy almost killed his own kid even though he didn't intend to :P

The only thing I can think of that might allow for this (besides lots of LSD) are "Thought Forms". Do a search on google, you should find lots on them.

Are we talking a full fledged hallucination that walks around with you all the time? If so, while I'm sure it would be possible (people do hallucinate after all, under a variety of circumstances), good luck actually managing this. Even as far as drugs go -which wouldn't be recommended for obvious reasons- there are very few which actually produce true hallucinations; and those that do you have no control over them. Plus they have lots of other nasty side effects (think death.)

Just don't do it, unless you want to end up like in the Fight Club movie :P

Dude, thats the whole point of lucid dreaming... it IS that easy, I do it all the time, and many famous scientists did the same thing to do their mental experiments. Nikola Tesla provided the whole earth of electricty this way, Albert Einstein discovered general relativity this way. Know your world!

A massive sleep deprivation will most definitely make you hallucinate but you aren't going to like it! and the longer you deprive yourself the more intense it will get... Still, not a good Idea:shock:

Why don't you just stick to lucid dreaming. its just as good, and a lot easier to achieve than waking-controlled-hallucinations.

Er, "A Beautiful Mind" is based on a true story, however that man was suffering from mental illness. I don't think you want to wish that upon yourself. No, I don't believe you can create a hallucination just randomly like that. Besides, what if you decide to carry on a spontaneous conversation with this person and you're the only one seeing them? People would look at you as if you have two heads and are mentally insane. I mean, if that's what you want then go right ahead. However, I agree with [user-name], lucid dreaming is a LOT like real life and you can have any character that you can create. :)

not to mention , that developing a real meaningful relationship with another person is a lot more healthy and rewarding than having some kind of creepy relationship with your "inner self".

and finding out if it's possible part of this topics idea was to find out if its even possible (oh i found out all ready it is possible)

It can become a nightmare for many people, it is not something you control, you can't. People get paranoid and worse when this happens..

Its often drugs that induce these hallucinations, some day the drug-user starts to see thing, even when not doing drugs. You don't want this..

It was naive to think that, it's not some game with some pinky unicorn saying hello , WHAT IF this hallucination got sinister? :evil:

Hmmm, that kind of sounds like Schizophrenia dude. That's what the man in A Beautiful Mind has.. I mean you do your thing, but I don't recommend trying to induce schizophrenia upon yourself on purpose. I don't know whether it is even possible or not, but you could end up totally hating this idea if you get it working!

Ah, but you all seem to be forgetting, if you can purposely induce these hallucinations, you could probably also turn them off. Then, sinister hallucinations and schizophrenzia won't be a proplem.

HOWEVER, even if it is possible to turn them off originally, the longer they stay, the harder it will be, because the more these hallucinations are integrated into your daily life, the more real they feel to you, and the more you expect them to be there. Becoming extremely bonded to them, like if you somehow fell in love or felt constantly threatened for your life, or maybe just had a really good friendship, would make them almost impossible to remove.


I think it would be cool at first, but if I got stuck with it, I would NOT be happy.

that's a very mature way of looking at things. sounds like you're the one getting upset. if you really didn't care, then your hobby wouldn't be to make other people care.
that's besides the point lol, if you want an imaginary friend, by all means create one. just be careful that's all, and stop immediately if you have trouble differentiating fantasy and reality.

Full control is not realistic. You can summon them, but you can never be 100% sure to be the one in control in all cases. Plus it's going to be not very easy getting rid of a summoned hallucination whenever you like, at your whim.

I won't chastise such a rarity as a person interested in the topic, though, especially the one whom I see online for the first time, but I trust that you know that your mind might always betray you.

Back on topic, you can try various stuff to do it. Pick some form of visual meditation, it's good stuff. You have to invest enough time in it, though. After learning to summon visions you can try to learn to control them.

Another way is using stuff that you can find online that sounds childish, but nevertheless works, like concentrating on one point in space for a very long time.

You can try buddhist stuff too, although you'd have to have another goal in mind, but the trick is to change the state of mind a little. Register at some buddhist forum to get advice, but pretend that you're in it for enlightenment and aren't interested in visions, otherwise they won't help you.

Well, if you're really serious about it you'll learn. Could be cool if you were.

One of my best friends started Taking copius amounts of uncut speed. Over the space of 9 months, developed full blown schizophrenia. He was seeing and hearing stuff telling him he had to do things. He lost most of his friends because they coudnt handle his ranting. I tried my best to convince him that what he was saying could not be possible. He was found with his wrist slashed and Bible pages pasted all over the walls. All of us felt crappy for letting him down. Dont put people through that.

anyway, I have had some great conversations with my dream characters. I know i'm only talking to my subconcouse (one of them actually explained that to me).

anyways we found a way to make ... get a kill switch what we are going to do is hypnotism hallucination so when I or my friend is hypnotized (depends on who looses the next bet) he or me is going to see this character and no we re not sure if it will work but this is the only way to create a kill switch (almost) safely
and no we cant be under hypnosis for days but it never was the point to see the hallucination for longer than needed (wanted) but now i need to go so ill send more soon

Why not google "rebirthing" then? Basically you poison your brain with the excess of oxygen by a special breathing technique. It starts behaving weird.

actually hypnosis stands a very good chance of working because we are gonna create a wanting or a need to see this character

we are aiming for something that can't exist in real life (just in case)
