Dream that shook my foundation of reality

First, let me apologize for having not read/searched many threads before posting this, but it seems the fastest way to get the answers I am looking for.

I have had some experience in the past with different kinds of dreams. For example, I have had dreams before that I call a premonition dream, where an event happens in my dream, then within a week (usually the next morning) the event happens exactly as it did in my dream. For me, this kind of dream feels different than a normal dream, so I know that this event is about to take place even before it happens.

Another type of dream I have had involves the feeling of another person actually being in the dream with me. I may be in a group of 20 people in the dream, but there will be one person in particular that feels like they are actually there with me. Until recently I have never had any sort of confirmation that this is actually true, and I just chalked it up to the mind can do some strange things, especially while sleeping.

To get to the point; A couple nights ago I had a dream where I felt a friend there, which has really only happened a few times in my entire life (I'm 28). In the past it has always been a person that I was no longer in contact with, so I could not ask them about it.

I had seen my friend that was in my dream on the next day, and she mentioned that she had a dream about me at the exact time of day that I had this dream. I told her what happened in my dream, but I couldn't remember the exact details of the words she spoke. As I was telling her this, I could see her eyes reacting in a strange way. When I was finished telling her about it, she corrected me on a couple details, including the exact words she had used in my dream, which I had got wrong when I told it to her.

I am a very skeptical person, and would never believe a story like this if someone told it to me. It took me a couple days to reconcile this dream with myself, but I am now 100% certain that we were both in this dream together, and it completely shakes my foundation of reality, and I don't know what this might imply, or what to do about it.

I had always felt that my dreams were a figment of my imagination, and that they were mine alone; that nobody could 'dreamwalk' into my dreams or any of that. If I ever heard a story about this type of thing I would assume people were imagining things that were not there, but I just can't do that with this one, there is no writing it off.. It happened.

      Very interesting Moloch

Only you experienced it, never let anyone tell you what it was, or was not.

I have a question, was you lucid at that moment where you talked with your friend? Did you know it was a dream, or did you talk with her like you would just do in a ordinary dream.

Some months ago, I was with my school mates in a dream, I got lucid, and talked with the dream characters, I told one of them a password to remember (in the case it wasn't a DG, which it probably was). Unfortunately this person which I told the password (you would never guess what the password was hehe) in the dream is horribly with any dream recall, dream is not important for him, so anyway it was pointless..

If you were lucid, and you are sure that this person you are talking with in the dream, is more than just a figment of your imagination, then give the person a password they won't guess. And ask after the dream, in waking life before giving any kinds of hints.

I see that such a situation would be very rare, but just remember it if it happens again

That's the way it works. Nobody believes until they actually experience something.

Unfortunately you post this at a really bad time. There is a growing bad attitude on this forum in regards to anything of that nature, and people seem to be treating these kinds of threads like a personal insult.

      I for one believe you.

Hmm. That's very interesting. I'm very skeptical myself, so... not sure what to think yet!

I do not believe this is the case anymore. I believe this was a dream we both had simultaneously...
This is the version of the dream I told her about:

I first told her that this was not a premonition dream, since those feel different to me. (Brief interlude on that topic, see note). I told her that it felt like she was right there with me in the dream, even though it didn't look like her, I could feel that she was right there with me. We were standing in a driveway, but it was not my driveway, or hers. We were standing next to my car when she pulled out a cigarette, and I said, "You don't smoke." She replied, "I know, but I just need one right now." Then my alarm clock went off and woke me up.

She told me that was the exact dream she had, then corrected me on a couple points. First she told me that before she said anything, she lit the cigarette, and took a drag off it, which she did in my dream, but I had not told her that part. Then she corrected the wording that she had used in my dream, which I could not remember exactly until she said it, but she was spot on and it really scared me when she said this.

no, I was not aware that I was dreaming at the time this happened.

My dreams tend to fall into 4 different categories. They are 1) the regular dreams that mean absolutely nothing. 2) Lucid dreams. 3) premonition/precognition/future event dreams. 4) a dream that is like a regular dream (non-lucid), but there is a presence in the dream with me that is not me. It is a very obvious feeling to me, this was such a dream.

Note: She was surprised to hear that I could feel the difference between a premonition dream and a normal one. I told her that when I have one, the event in my dream will usually happen the next day, but always within 3 days. She said that she has similar dreams, but cannot feel the difference, and they usually don't happen for at least a year down the road.

Edit: Let me add that I do not believe this girl would lie to me about anything, nor I to her. I believe her completely that this did happen (especially after she corrected me on a couple points)

My first thought was that you're making this up, but then I remembered that I had premonition dreams too, and now I'm starting to believe you. It's really really interesting

Don't worry whether or not anybody believes you. It was real to you and your friend, and that is all that matters.

It might be worth trying to repeat this experience with some sort of controlled message passing. Even if it doesn't lead anywhere, it will help bring you and your friend closer together. It seems like you two both desire a closer relationship.

I don't care whether people believe me or not. It is definitely a hard thing to swallow, even for me, and I'm the one it happened to!

I consider myself to be a very scientific, logical, and skeptical person. This kind of thing significantly blurs the boundary between what I consider to be real, and what I always thought was just in someone's head. It is making me reconsider everything from ghosts and magic, to the old testament part of the bible, which I always believed was complete fiction - made up my Moses who wanted to make himself sound like some sort of magician (much like the Egyptian pharaoh's who raised him).

I will say that I have spoken with several of my close friends about this recently, and every one of them says they have premonition dreams occasionally of one degree or another. One of them told me that he has dreams of a place rather than an event. A place that he has never seen before, but within a week he will find himself at this place he dreamed about.

The hard part for me about recreating the event is that I only have a dream with the feeling of another presence in my dream about once every 3-4 years, so unless I can find some way to force it to happen, it will be along time before I can get another verification. I also very rarely have lucid dreams anymore; I just take them as they are and don't try to control them.

You misunderstood me, you experienced something, that doesn't mean that she didn't.

If you would like to learn more about premoniton dreams, and how other people have expierenced them, I recommend "Dreams That Come True", by David Ryback, it's a very interesting book about this subject, and must be even better for someone who has these dreams.

It would be cool if you could get lucid, when sharing a dream. Endless posibilities

      Red face

I envy you. This kind of experience is something I would long to encounter.
Like Specialis Sapientia had said, I haven't many friends that care for dreams. They just see them as random occurrences that happen every month or so. What you had with your friend is exactly the thing I'd like to find myself talking about with my friends.

I'm curious, does she show as much an interest as you do in Dreams? Have you both visited this site before or is this situation literally an out of the blue experience. Hopefully the two of you can work on having more dreams of the same nature!

I have never been to this site before, I found it on google, searching for 'dream forum' and this was the first on the list.

This is not something that I have much experience with. Like I said before, I have had dreams where it felt like someone was actually there with me (very rarely.. every 3-4 years it happens), but it was never before someone that I had been in contact with for at least a year, so I had no way to even ask them if they had the same dream.

As for my friend, she said she has people show up in her dreams from time to time. Usually old friends that she had in New Mexico, American Indians and such who are into that sort of thing. She says that she can't step into someone else's dreams, but that they can step into hers.

After speaking with my brother about this.. apparently strange things like that run in my family (who knew?). My mother had told him some stories that I never heard as a child about strange esoteric things happening to her, though nothing dream related.

I would love to find some information on how to get this to happen on my own volition rather than waiting another 3 years for it to happen again. This may not be the best forum for that, but anyone know a good place to start?.. I plan to read up a bit more on lucid dreaming, perhaps if I can get that going more often I might be able to consciously step into someone else's dream. My friends that I have spoke with believe that I believe this event happened, but don't want to believe it themselves without it happening to them, and have invited me to try if I can find a way. I would love to tell them something in a dream, then call them the next day and confirm it with them.

On a side note, this dream happened right after a very emotional night for me. I had repressed my emotions for a long time, and being a cancer (though I don't put much faith in astrology), I have been told that I am supposed to be very emotional, and repressing them is a bad thing.

Anyway, I had really let things go that day, and talked with her about a couple things I had never told anyone before. We had a very strong connection that day, and I have never felt more vulnerable in front of someone before. I don't know that this has anything to do with the dream, but it could be a major connection that we shared which helped us to connect in the dream world... just a thought.

Well I would say that this forum Is a great place to find information and help you direct your dreams.
Its actually pretty odd because no less than 2 or 3 hours ago i was talking with someone about Dream Walkers and Night Stalkers, which are the terms for people who can enter other peoples dreams, assisting the dreamer or giving them, from what I've read, fairly horrific dreams. Not that its a HUGE deal, I mean I personally have never met anyone in my dreams that I would say was a real person. But like you said, it could be hereditary, maybe only some can experience these things/do it themselves.
Regardless, I wouldn't pass this forum as just an interesting place to have stopped at once. It definitely has some very insightful methods toward helping you remember dreams more often and understand how to prevent or enable particular things within them.
No ones said it yet, so... Welcome to DV forums!!

I understand this isn't quite the forum for discussing a topic like this. Could anyone recommend a good place to start for someone that is looking into dreamwalking, etc.?

I plan to read up on lucid dreaming here, I have had trouble in the past with dream recall, and staying asleep once I realize I am in a dream. Generally once I realize that I am dreaming, I start to feel myself waking up, and within a minute I'm fully awake. This helps with dream recall, but it really sucks for getting a restful night of sleep.

If you want to find out more about it would be the lucid crossroads... Noone really knows much about this because it is so rare... But perhaps using there idea you could come into contact with someone else... Although i might also advice emailing him the experience and try to include everything from what you ate earlier that they to what you felt that morning.

      1) The dreams you mention as meaning nothing.. Are symbols of your unconscious mind. They all symbolize something from your waking day..
This was that cult, and the prisoners said it had always existed and always would exist, hidden in distant wastes and dark places all over the world until the time when the great priest Cthulhu, from his dark house in the mighty city of R'lyeh under the waters, should rise and bring the earth again beneath his sway.

well.. to me those type of dreams could mean many things. It could be a way of stress relief, to get out certain things from your subconscious mind. It could also be a way for your spirit/soul to communicate certain things to you. It could be nothing more than scenery to keep your mind occupied while you sleep. It could be a nightmarish dream - which i haven't actually had since i was a little kid myself.

But those type of dreams have less significance to me than say a premonition dream, or one with another entity there with me (although maybe they should mean more to me).

I dont think your story is impossible. You're not the first person to experience a shared dream

while now, it may seem impossible, governments have recognized remote viewing as a reality. and have used it to their advantage. we don't have the exact science yet to explain the phenomenon. there's a lot of theories out there

the best that I have heard is that the human mind is a field of energy. this field of energy is connected to a larger field of energy, and a larger field of energy, and a larger field of energy. creating group sums of consciousness, that affect our minds on a subconscious level. because information in this field of energy travels back and forth

there are many examples in nature of an entire group of animals having learned something new, when those animals didn't come into direct contact. that monkey experiment is the most famous example. but there are other examples that happen in nature every day. especially in the insect kingdom.

it may be a bit of a mystery now, but I think its only a matter of time before we can prove that minds can connect directly to other minds.

      but for now, what ever

one thing to keep in mind though. in a lot of dreams you're going to find at least one character that feels different from the rest. more conscious, more alive. your first guess should be, not a shared dream, but that this DC is a direct manifestation of your subconscious. find them! talk to them!

There are of course numerous examples of 'remote viewing' types of things that happen to people all the time.

For example, most everyone has had a time where they thought of a person they had not thought of in months/years, then within seconds, their phone rings and guess who it is?

Another example, dealing with something other than humans. This one I heard about years ago, and don't know where the reference came from, but I remember the experiment. A scientist took some yogurt, put half of it into each of two cups. He then put a barrier between them so they couldn't even see each other (as if yogurt has eyes). Next he poured some milk into one of the cups, which is apparently food for the living organism in yogurt. The other cup, which had no milk, started to change, showing signs of jealousy, being hungry, or whatever. It was somehow able to sense that it's nearby friend had been fed, but it had not.

While I understand where you are coming from, this has not been the case with me. It is a very rare thing for me to feel another character in my dreams as being a real spirit there with me. I have suspected that this was the case in the past, and have only recently confirmed my suspicion.

I have spoken with my friend about this, and she can't tell the difference like I can.

For me, as soon as I see the person, which generally doesn't even look like them, I can feel that they are real. I know exactly who the person is, even if I have not seen them for years. This is a gut feeling and has nothing to do with the way they interact with me - even though they do interact completely differently than all the other characters.

For most characters in my dreams, I know what they are about to do before they do it. For example, I know that a character is about to try to hit me before they make the move to swing. This makes it quite easy to block, dodge, or whatever. When I have a real person there, I do not have this foreknowledge, and lose any advantage I would have. They also respond quite differently and unexpectedly to things that are happening in the dream.
