      Hypnagogic Voices!

Every once in a while as I am falling asleep, when I am in that in-between zone right before unconsiousness, for a split second I realize that my thoughts have somehow morphed into human voices having an elaborate (and nonsensical) conversation. Its as if the many conflicting aspects of thought have become separate people, with different voices and personalities, blathering in a whirling "solid" sound - like how a tornado is a "soild" shape, yet not... I usually snap to consiousness right as I notice this, left with the feeling that if I had stayed in that zone, the voices would have morphed further into actual dream people and situations. It almost feels like catching your dream in its exact "conception" stage, before it becomes visual...

It doesn't happen often - just something I catch from time to time and find fascinating. I tend to interpret these things neurologically rather than supernaturally - to me it seems like your brain's way of easing you into a dream as seamlessly as possible, so as not to jolt you awake with sudden imagery. Your thoughts become dense and more of raw emotions - the emotion (since most are composed of ambivalent/opposing feelings) split into arguing "personalities" in conversation (the words nonsensical, its more the "feeling" expressed) and then these voices morph somehow into the sounds, characters, tones and visuals of a dream. Its like a roulette wheel - whatever emotion/personality type was most prominent at the actual dream threshold is what sets the tone for the dream.

Yep, that's how it works. And sometimes you skip the HI stage altogether, and being in your room sets the tone for the dream, creating an OBE of AP scenario.

Yea... I've had such things happen to me... especially when I read too much or talk too much or I have a headache... suddenly, as I go to sleep, a million conversations go through my head, about anything, as if there's a million people talking about a million different subjects. I don't like the feeling, but it happens very few times.

I answered this in the other area... you really don't need to put the same post in two places... it's confusing!

I often hear my name being called, It's not my voice though and i don't recognize the voice either. I also hear my husbands name being said. IF anything it annoys me! I'm tired and want to go to bed!

      well

This actually happends to me.. a lot. Not as much now as in the past. But it was almost like every night.. And i had no idea what it ment/was. It still happends now actually i think it hapened last night. And when ever i notice it i always snap back into reality/fully awake again. But ive been trying to try to let it go without snaping out of it, but it is really hard haha. I think you are right about your brain easing you into dream world. But well i dont really know myself.
