Taking this mineral supplement won't necessarily promote lucid dreaming. You can have the best sleep for your metabolism and yet have little dream recall simply because you have not been recording dreams—which is a huge part of paying attention to them. (I'm not saying this is necessarily your case but lucidity hinges more on logical/critical thinking and questioning reality than most people realise.)

Of course, zinc has the potential to boost your immune system and magnesium may promote good musculature. B6 may even explain the surge of energy you report! But you can forgo ZMA and still become an avid lucid dreamer proficient at the practice. Get to know your dreams (the more you record the more you recall) and write down recurrent themes and potential cues for them. Perform reality checks during the day. You may even dabble in mindfulness meditation.

My point here is that you don't need supplements sold by people who are not privy to your medical history. These products are best prescribed by a family doctor! Trust me, if you wish to raise your acetylcholine levels (which do more for boosting memory and increasing the chances of lucidity), risk free, you are better off shopping for eggs, liver, cheddar and fish. Yes, simply eating food can alter your brain chemistry in a healthy way as a little help towards your practice.

Very cool. Do you have any background with shamanic practices? I had a couple lucids years ago with a "spirit lodge" type feel, but never really delved into it. Have a good time back!

I have nothing formal, just a near lifelong interest and personal experiences. My shamanic interests lie in North European spirituality and deities. I have some Native American ancestry, too, and I have had contact with the old Grandfathers, but I don't "play Indian" and mainly focus on the Gods and Goddesses of North Europe.

Interesting...what was the scripted meditation like? And were you listening to this scripted meditation while awake, or asleep?

I use a Bluetooth sleep mask to listen for about two-thirds of the night. I am asleep most of this time, drifting in and out.

I make my own meditation tracks. The one I used here contained brainwave entrainment tones, starting at 7hz and going down to 2.5hz, over about 4 hours. In the script I address myself by name and say, " You are dreaming"..."This is a dream"... "Look around you"...."What do you see". I keep it very simple. These statements are subliminal, below the threshold of hearing.

Thank you for your comment! Yes, I do the "lay in bed and remember" thing.

Are you being able to recall even a simple detail on waking? Or does the recall get away before you're sort of awake enough?

I have known this myself and it can be somewhat frustrating, especially when you know you've had some presence in the dreams; some might recommend that you try to not open your eyes and stay still in bed as you awaken, as something to help with this kind of situation. I have done this in the past and, while it's helpful, it can take some extra thought or intention-setting to actually get yourself to do it. It's worth trying if you haven't already, and if your morning schedules allow for it.

I don't see this mentioned a lot, but "memory" in the sense of retaining dream recall in this case, is not only as simple as "I remember it/I don't remember it". If you want to know more, reading a book about how to train your memory might be a good idea, though in any case, whether we retain recall or not partly depends on how much stimulus there is as you awaken; if there are external distractions or if you quickly start thinking about other things, the fading dream memories will go away much faster if they're still there at all, which is why the "lying still in bed with eyes closed" thing helps, because it forces you to keep yourself from distractions, both inner and outer.

Hope this is of some help, let me know what you think.

Edit: I am remembering that actually in LaBerge's EWOLD, this topic is briefly covered too.
