    1. office in a kmart; flying in the dark

      by , 04-13-2011 at 11:46 AM
      Good morning, everybody.

      Dream #1

I was at "my office," which was basically two cubicles set in one of the product islands at a discounter store like a Kmart or a Wal-Mart. I sat in the left cubicle. My co-worker S sat in the right cubicle. There was an aisle for a walkway between us.

I had been doing some kind of work, but now I stood up from my cubicle and walked into the main part of the store. I had probably been thinking about my bad handwriting.

I looked in the distance. Hanging on the wall or hanging from the ceiling were two signs, as big as the signs that might usually advertise products, like in a Target. The signs may just have materialized as I watched them. They mimicked my handwriting, making two whole pages out of little scrawls. The two pages seemed to be slightly curled and almost touching each other back-to-back.

I thought that described my handwriting really well. I was now walking back toward the cubicles. I walked past some sort of exchange counter, which was just a smallish, fake wood counter which may possibly have stood before a dressing room. A kind of big-framed, kind of muscly woman with very short hair stood before the counter. She wore a white tank top and blue jeans.

The woman was trying to exchange something that looked like a classical statue of a chest and head of a man. The sculpture was in some kind of grey, slatey material. The back of the sculpture was completely flat. It hadn't had any features carved into it, but there were all kinds of apparently accidental scratches made in it.

As I headed back to my desk, my co-worker CB, a peer to my boss, walked up behind me. He had completely shaved his head, and he looked a little more tan than before. He wore a green shirt with white woven in, so that it looked like it was inside-out, and some blue jeans.

I was afraid that CB hated me. I also knew that my boss wasn't around, so I figured CB would try to make trouble. So I tried to hurry and sit down at my desk. But, for some reason, CB kissed me on the head. He said something nice to me. He may have asked me to help him with some issue he was having with a project. I was relieved that he didn't hate me.

(Although in waking life I don't think I'd appreciate it if he kissed me on the head.)

      Dream #2

I was in a dark hallway that was made of big, stone blocks. The hallway was tall, somewhat wide, and almost completely dark. I was apparently taking a break from studying.

Just for fun, apparently, I decided to bounce upwards off the walls. I bounced from wall to wall, bringing myself higher and higher. I was finally almost to the ceiling. At this point my body was horizontal, as if I were floating and laying on my left side.

I thought I should probably get back to studying. But I figured that what I was doing now was also educational, as well as fun. So why not keep doing it? I decided that since I was basically floating, I might as well fly through the hallway.

I flew through the hallway and into some dark room that was kind of like some classical study in a mansion and a messy, suburban living room. My mom may have been sleeping on the couch.

There was a sliding glass door at the back of the room. It had a thin, light brown curtain on it. As I flew toward the door, I thought, I can only fly in my dreams. I thought, Well, I don't think I'm dreaming, even though I'm flying. But I thought, Well, if I'm dreaming, I should be able to go straight through the closed glass door. I should try.

So I flew at the door. I may have felt myself pushing through the curtain and the glass. I may have thought, Well, I guess I am dreaming.
    2. SAT grave; punch in the face; little white animal

      Good morning, everybody.

      Dream #1

I walked up something like a wooden ramp or a wooden deck that was in front of some kind of run-down beach house or shack made of wood. I may have been in a line with people.

I was now in a classroom. The desks in the classroom seemed all crammed together. We were all preparing for some kind of test like the SATs. I looked up from my study material and saw JW, my old friend from high school, studying for the test.

I made some kind of weird comment in a weird voice that I thought would remind him of our high school days. JW recognized me, but he only ackowledged me briefly and reluctantly. I was a little hurt.

Some voice called from behind me. I turned around. Another friend of mine, who I didn't recognize, was trying to get my attention. This guy was from some more recent time in my life. He may have been overweight, with tan skin, black hair in a ponytail, a goatee, and glasses. I was kind of put out that JW wouldn't talk to me, while this guy would.

Now the test was about to begin. The teacher was doing something. I made some kind of immature joke. The class' and teacher's attention were drawn to me. The teacher may have asked me something. I may have responded with a dumb answer that was a smart alecky way of saying I didn't know anything.

The teacher said, "What a disappointment. I thought you were one of the bright ones. I was looking for someone to give a presentation on how to take this test. I thought it was going to be you. But I guess not, now."

Apparently, we all had to go somewhere else to take the test. We were all walking through some area.

Later, I think I had decided not to take the test after all. I was somewhere that was half outside and half inside. I stood on some barren soil. A pit as long as my body and a few feet deep was dug into the soil. I sat down into the pit. I began pulling the dirt down onto myself.

I buried my legs pretty quickly. I started to wonder if I would suffocate if I managed to pull dirt all over my body, which was, I think, my objective. I may have gotten afraid. I may have pulled myself up out of the pit. As I looked down at the soil, the soil may have seemed disgusting to me, like it was feces.

      Dream #2

I was in a high school, walking down the steps of a stairwell. A white kid kind of dressed like a gangster came up the steps and punched me in the face. I dropped my books. The kid kept attacking me, but I tried to ignore him. I picked up my books and walked the rest of the way down the stairs.

I got around a corner, into some place like a classroom. For some reason I looked back out around the corner, into the stairwell. The kid punched me in the face again!

      Dream #3

I was in my bedroom. A strange, white animal was crawling across the floor. It was moving somewhat quickly. I thought it might be a mouse. But it had such a strange look, like a slug.

I was interested in the animal, but I didn't want it in my house. It seemed to be heading out the door of its own accord. I watched it as it approached the door. But just before it got to the door it turned back around.

I now got on the floor and tried to scare the animal away. But I only seemed to make it curious about me. It came closer, so I figured I might as well try to learn what kind of animal it was. It turned out to be very much like a white mouse with grey ears. But something about it still looked not quite right. I wondered if I actually wasn't looking at a baby rat.
    3. black butterflies; special drink

      by , 03-02-2011 at 12:43 PM
      Good morning, everybody.

      Dream #1

I was walking through a street in my old neighborhood. I came to a three-way intersection. The left road went past my old elementary school. The right road went past a grocery store.

It was night and dark. There were no streetlights. The sky seemed purple, as if somewhere in the distance there were lights.

There were a good amount of people walking around on the street. Nobody, including me, was acting as if there was no power and light.

I walked along the right road and crossed the street to get to the sidewalk in front of the grocery store. As I did, another man walked behind me, continuing along the sidewalk I had just been on.

The man was on a cell phone. He was bragging really loud to somebody about having arranged things with the people at his work so that he could alternate work between New York and Atlanta.

I knew the man was trying to get my attention and trying to make me feel like he had a better job than I. I tried not to worry about the guy, although I did think that being able to live in one other place as well as New York would be pretty cool. Atlanta seemed pretty far. I thought Boston might be nice.

There was a tree in the middle of the street. It had fallen, but the trunk was still connected to the stump. It didn't seem too wide -- maybe only 33cm or so in diameter. But it was like I was walking below it. It was completely blocking the road. I had to get past it. I pushed against it, but I don't think I actually lifted it or moved it out of the way. I was then past it.

I was on the sidewalk in front of the grocery store. There was a pretty girl somewhere. I may have thought about telling her something about how I live in New York and Boston.

Then I started seeing black butterflies. They floated at about waist height, occasionally coming up to my head, and they flew very slowly. They were about 15cm wide, and in the dark they looked like living shadows.

I walked under the canopy of a scraggly sidewalk tree. There were more black butterflies. They were floating through what seems now like either the suckers of the tree or some kind of barren shrub.

I was shocked by the strange sight of the butterflies. I told myself there was no way these things could be butterflies. I told myself that butterflies didn't fly around in the dark. I thought they were bats. But they flew too slow to be bats.

Eventually I told myself they must be moths. That seemed more reasonable than their being butterflies, although not as mystical. But, still, I told myself, even for moths, these things have such a strange appearance.

      Dream #2

I was in an area like a hallway for a smallish performance and rehearsal space. The place felt warm, warmly lit, and nice. The ceilings may have been high up, even though the space wasn't big.

I sat on a stool. I sat before a doorway. The door was the kind that has a split halfway up so you can open the top or bottom half only if you want. The bottom half was closed, and there was a ledge on it, which I was using for a counter.

A pale, white man stood on the other side of the door. Behind him was a room with dimensions like for a performance space, but filled with stuff like for a living room or bedroom. This space also felt warm and nice.

The man told me about some special cocktail he had made. I could see it in my mind's eye. It was very colorful. It had green in it, and possibly yellow, like pineapples. It may have been topped with whipped cream and a cherry.

The man offered to make me a special cocktail. I didn't feel like drinking, so I declined. But the guy seemed really intent on making the cocktail, which he seemed really proud of. So I finally accepted.
