    1. Fragments for 05/25/2013

      by , 05-28-2013 at 02:58 AM
      Fragment 1: Shark
There's a vault with a circular door. In the floor of the vault is a round platform with 3 steps descending. The guards show me a shark strapped to its surface. They stand on either side of the creature and thrust their swords down into slots to activate the platform and lower it. Below is a bedroom. It has a twin sized bed with a brown and spring green comforter.
The next time I see the platform, there is nothing on it. The strap is broken and the room below is empty.
      Where did the shark go?

      Fragment 2: Sam and Dean
There's a desert encampment, all rough wooden buildings, canvas and chain link. Dean has an elite group of soldiers who, just like himself, have angel rune tattoos all over their bodies.
Sam was not Blessed with Heaven's Mark and in a fit of self mockery, he covered his body in demon runes.
He is sitting with his back to a length of chain link fence. No one walks within ten feet of him. He is the cursed brother. He looks unnaturally pale, more heavily muscled, and the runes stand out like burns against his white skin. He glowers at all the people avoiding him.
A group of soldiers run by and shouts ring out from near the Demon Portal at the heart of the encampment.
Sam leaps to his feet and fights his way through the crowd, shoving people aside, snarling at anyone who gets in his way and gnashing his teeth which have (strangely) become pointed.
He rushes to Dean's side and proximity to the gateway has had adverse affects on his tattoos. What before had not benefited him, like the tattoos of the Blessed, as he gets closer to Dean he is overcome with a vast and ravenous hunger.
He needs to consume the angelic aether given to Dean by God. Sam bares his teeth, trying desperately to consume and to deny the urge at the same time. Dean gives off a faint golden glow. Sam breathes in deeply...

      Fragment 3:

I awake, when I fall back asleep I'm telling someone about the Sam and Dean dream I just had, laying out all the details. Seeing it again in flashes. Then I'm standing in line in what used to be my sister's room in the house in MA. They have gathered us, to interrogate us. I walk with someone at my side. Where my sister's bed used to be there is a table and a soldier behind it. He nudges a box in my direction. Inside are coins of all shapes and sizes.
I sort through them until I find two octagonal coins with a hawk on one side and a face on the other. We are supposed to pick objects that remind us of our past lives. I snap them onto the table top.
      "Those, I think." I say.
The soldier nods at me and then gestures me to the other line going into what used to be the closet. I hope they don't find what they're looking for, at least not in me. How would I even know what I had done wrong?
    2. Snow White, Dean, and an Eldritch Abomination

      by , 03-13-2013 at 04:47 AM
(Once Upon a Time, Supernatural and Cthulhu Mythos. Apparently.)
I am Snow White's daughter, but I'm not Emma. I have an older brother who looks like Charming, while I look like mother did when she was young. I also have two younger siblings, a two year old boy and a newborn. Our parents have gone missing and we don't know what has happened to them, in actuality they have disappeared to another world and gone to war. They've left us to care for the young ones, I'm worried I'll never see our parents again. Our own world is filled with demons, even the hospital is infested. Such that when I see my brother walking with a portly red-haired female nurse, I'm afraid that he has become possessed. In terror, I watch him from afar. If he has been taken, it's possible that no one in my family remains unchanged. I notice him doing normal things and am vastly relieved. The nurse turns her black eyes on me and I look away. It seems that even they would not dare hurt royal children just because the king and queen are away.

There's a lapse and I'm outside, it's dark. The trees framing the monastery walls are black and dead. I'm looking for my little brother, he has been missing for days. I'm at the edge of the clearing when I see the nurse from the house, wearing a shark's smile, kicking a box under a table. She disappears, I run to where she was standing and find my brother in a yellow shoebox under a long picnic table beneath the awning stretching out from the face of the building. I start to panic, he looks tiny and emaciated. I'm afraid he will starve if I don't get some food into him immediately. I cast around for some food but the place is dead, empty. I start to cry, grief and helplessness tight in my chest. It's hard to breath around it. I'm terrified that I'm being tested, and realize the truth of that fear when I see my options. An old oven is illuminated in the wall behind my brother, and off to my right by the arched red monastery door, are three orphan babies left in the cold. Usually the monks here would take them in. It's the dead of night and whoever left them didn't bother to ring the bell, leaving their lives to fate or to demons.
Upon seeing the oven I felt a surge of hope, I could bake something for my brother to eat. He wouldn't die! Then I saw the freezing orphans and knew I had to make a choice.
"No no no, I don't know what to do. Don't make me choose."
But it's a test, and I have to choose. What do I do? Is it selfish to choose one life, because it belongs to my brother? Will my mother be disappointed that I didn't save the three children?
Indecision tears at me. I pace between my brother and the three shriveled children. I start to sob, twisting my hands into fists in my long black hair. I don't want to choose, I don't want to choose. I fall to my knees beside my brother and...
The pain becomes too much for my subconscious and I feel myself retreat. I am myself and the daughter no longer. I'm asking someone if they're caught up on episodes, and it's terrible what happens to Snow's family, that I can't believe what they have to go through.

I follow Snow around and don't participate at all. Like I'm watching a movie. The day is overcast, we have gathered for war games to prepare for battle. This seemingly insincere call to arms is the only way we can meet under the eye of the enemy and avoid retaliation. There's a beautiful dark-haired cat-eyed woman who can't take the games seriously. She knows the true purpose of the call, but keeps joking around. At first she steps up to the man carrying the roster and gives him a salute, somewhere between a mocking gesture and seriousness. When he looks away she grins a little and hops into rank with five others. Snow sees her for what she is though, that despite her attempt to remain a jester, she is very capable and charismatic. Snow calls out that those she hands hats out to will play officers in the coming game. They've all mounted horses, and the black-haired woman is on a black horse with a white stripe down its nose. Snow drops a hat onto the woman's head, surprising the hell out of her. For a second she looks disconcerted, then she smiles and tugs on the reins, her horse neatly side-steps and dances up beside another person in line. She takes the hat off and drops it on someone's head. When the woman glances up she sees Snow's wry look, it also says "you won't escape that easily."
"Aura. Come HERE." Snow points firmly at the ground in front of her.
Aura, the woman, grins at the person next to her and prances up to the commander.
"I don't know why you're so reluctant to help."
"I can't be of use." The humor vanishes from her face and is replaced with sharp deprecation. "My heart just isn't what it used to be. I bet you didn't even recognize me..." She hands a male soldier a greeting card. On the inside is her picture, she looks subtly different. When my vision pulls back from the card, I see a triangular bandage on her chest, indicating that she has been injured. "Besides, do you really want a super model leading your troops?"
Snow looks annoyed but gets called away before she can say that it doesn't matter who you are here, it matters who you used to be back Home.

From where I stand, the sea is a grey choppy mass to my back. There's a rough rock outcropping jutting from long pale grass lain flat by the wind. Dean from Supernatural is holding up a mess of purple string.
      "WHAT is this?"
I gesture for him to hand it over, and he does.
      "It's our early warning system."
He looks extremely amused, something about how the words and their implications are of this world and alien to the one we are from.
      "Early warning system?"
I roll my eyes at him. "Can you please take this seriously? It works, alright? They've proven it." I explain how the string is staked into the ground all around the world and that each attack from our Enemy is preceded by vibration. The direction of the vibrations will help us pinpoint the place the Enemy intends to attack, and will appear on our map. Showing us where to go.
He nods at me, knowing he needs to stop joking around. He turns to the others around us and holds up a map. "The...early warning system," he cracks a smile and I shake my head at him, a little annoyed. He clears his throat, "the system indicates that the next attack will happen in Ghana." But he doesn't say Ghana. He says Ana, leaving the G silent. I hear somebody snicker.
"Hey Dean, the G isn't silent..."
      "Sure it is."
      "Nope, pretty sure it's Ghana."
      "Shut up..."
"Fine, okay, does it say WHERE in Ghana?"
I look at the map and as I expected, there's a rough wooden pin sticking into a mountain range. I think it's a large crescent shaped range, then realize it's actually a solitary mountain at the range's back. I tug on the mass of purple string, trying to straighten it out. I can feel it against my fingers when, hear the sound it makes between them.
      "Here. In the hills."
"Let's get to it then!" Dean says.

Myself, Snow, Charming and Dean have gathered with what's left of our people in Ghana. We know that It plans to come here, and we're going to be in Its way when it does. We pretend we're having a meeting, the leaders from each race was invited to the panel, so that we could decide how to handle the Enemy, together. When It invaded ten years ago, It forbade large meetings like this. Snow tenses and runs past me. I catch her arm,
      "Hey, what's happening?"
"It's here. Prepare yourselves everyone, it will see right through our excuses." She goes to face the black wall behind the table we had all occupied a few minutes before. We thought that we would have more time.
A woman in glasses with dirty blonde hair rings her hands.
      "He's coming here?"
"Don't call it a 'he' Sara. Giving it gender will only humanize him." I frown, "It."
We hear it before we see it.
"A panel? And I wasn't invited? You're in violation of the One Law." The black wall behind the table becomes a fathomless void, and from the abyss emerges an androgynous child. It would almost be pretty if not for its dead eyes. It's dressed in a white and grey skin-tight spandex. Bare footed. Head shaved. The only indication that it is not human (aside from it's eyes), is the lesions from corruption and plague on its scalp. I'm afraid suddenly that he heard me call him an IT and will be violently displeased.
It seems the creature will be violently displeased anyway. It gives us a mad-man's smile and its true form appears behind the child. An giant scaly eye with yellow sclera, innumerable tentacles snake out from behind the eye, this monstrosity filling the room with its vile, suffocating presence. We tense---

AAAAND MY ALARM GOES OFF. >.< WHY?! I was going into an epic battle against an eldritch abomination!

    3. Recurring House 1/15-1/19

      by , 01-25-2013 at 06:48 PM
      1/15/13
I become aware. I'm laying on my back, on a mattress on the floor. The first thing I see when I open my eyes is a skylight. Something about the glow of the day outside is incredibly soothing. I sit up and say to my dad who is standing nearby "I've never thought about how comforting it is to wake up with a window overhead."
He keeps looking in my direction when he thinks I'm not looking in his. I realize that this is not a regular house, but a ward. I've been brought here because I'm crazy.
I frown a little, then the skylight catches my eye and I decide I don't care. The worry that I'm no longer sane slips away. I am comforted.

There's a door to my left, I know it leads to the garage, it slams open and a woman bursts in. Her face is bloody. Her eyes search the room, she doesn't find what she's looking for so she leaves calling to someone outside.
"I remember this." I think. "This is an episode of Supernatural." ((It's not actually)) I know what's going to happen. The Winchesters and their friend (the woman) go to live in a house out in the country. The place is infested with pests, raccoons, rabbits, rats. They kill them and only later realize that all the animals they killed were actually shapeshifters. They're remorseful about it, which even in the dream seems odd to me. My subconscious doesn't even try to come up with a plot hole filler like it usually does.
I see them do all this, I think I may have tried to talk to them about it. The scenes I see are at night, but when I actually leave the house to find them it's mid-morning.
I run out of the house and look back at it. It's narrow but wide, a flat-faced 3 story blue colonial with windows on each floor. The back of the house faces vividly green rolling hills, and just past the house I notice another line of buildings. It looks lovely, sitting there on a hill. All the windows are open, with each gust of wind white/yellow striped curtains billow outward.

      1/16/13 (dream fragment)
I'm sitting at a round dinner table. Across from me is Liam. It's like a snapshot, the space between breaths, the break in a conversation. We had been talking, but we have since stopped. He's how I saw him in the first dream, wearing a loose white shirt. His hair looks a little more shaggy. He stares hard at the table, head tilted down and a little to the side. He clenches his hand then opens it. He seems frustrated.

      1/18/13
I'm in the house again. This time I become aware while standing in the bathroom. The house doesn't have any furniture, the bathroom is bare. Behind me is an elevated tub. The bathroom itself is in the corner of the house, joining two bedrooms. The walls are a pale warm yellow.
"This is the house I was in before." I think, smiling. I walk into the master bedroom. The walls are blue, the trim white. The window to my left is open, and the day outside is bright and cheerful. I become entranced by the wood floors, they're a blonde wood but the grain almost looks like scratches. In a way I'm lucid for this, because I'm aware that the floor doesn't look quite right. The more I focus on it the more realistic it becomes.

      1/19/13
I've returned to the house. I become aware while standing in the living room. Just like in the other dreams I'm standing in a spot where I can see into a couple other rooms. To my left I can see the entry hall and a small room right next to it. In front of me is a short hallway and en exit door. I can also see the side of the stairs going up to the second floor. I know that across from the stairs to the left is the kitchen, but I haven't been in there yet.
"I'm here again." I think. My return makes me happy, but I can't quite say why.
It's no house I have ever actually been to. I turn around to look out the window behind me...

I'm in a sort of hotel. All the shelves, trim, and tables are deep walnut and almost look black. I turn to put something in one of the mail cubbies and I hear a voice. There are two maids standing at the counter, intercepting a message. The man standing on the other side of the counter reminds me, achingly, of Liam. His face structure doesn't seem right, but his personality fits. He is sharply dressed, a black vest over a white shirt and black slacks. I try to get his attention, I can actually FEEL myself turning into a moron. (Well...not literally)
The women keep getting in the way, they think he's attractive and don't want me to talk to him. I stand off to the side, frowning. I see myself as though I'm standing right behind myself, so the side of my face, and the way my hair is pinned up. The fact that it's curly and black and not really my own anymore. While he's talking to them I doubt that he looks like Liam at all. I give up trying to get his attention, which just seems to get his attention.
"Sorry, I've got other messages to run. I'll come back by before I leave town." His eyes slide from the other two women to me as he's turning to leave and gives me a crooked smile. The familiarity of it strikes me hard, he's gone before I can react.

    4. Supernatural - Fragment

      by , 12-17-2012 at 11:12 PM
I was dozing off and thinking about an episode of Supernatural I'd just watched. I see Sam walk into a house to investigate something, and I clearly see the door swing open and the layout of the kitchen. Then I am startled awake, and I realize the thought crossing my mind briefly became a dream.
