      Lucid #197: The King

      It's modern times, and I’m the king of a small nation. I’m sharing a smallish hotel suite with several royal guests. A few of the royal guests in the adjoining room are very upset with me about something and I’m pacing the room, dreading that I have to talk the issue over with them.

      I inspect one of the hotel desks and see two narrow drawers. Somehow I realize that the drawer on the left contains a picture of the girl that my son E (who I think is a prince) is engaged to. I open the drawer and see that the future princess is a cute girl in her late teens with long brown hair. I think for a moment how odd this pairing is since my son is only 4 years old. I struggle with this for a moment, thinking I’ve forgotten my son’s age, until
      I realize that I’m dreaming.

      I walk into an adjacent room where I think my kids are sleeping. There’s a crib here but instead of a child, the crib contains my friend R (who appeared in a few of my early lucids way back when). R is squatting in the crib, not doing much of anything, so I grab him under the armpits and hoist him out of the crib. I tell him that I’m having a lucid dream and that I hope he’s having one too (or maybe that I just hope he’s having a lot of them recently.)

      He walks back to the main part of the hotel room with me, briefly exploring the kitchen area, before we turn toward a large picture window overlooking a lake. I invite him to come fly out over the lake with me, but he seems hesitant and apprehensive. He remarks that he doesn’t think he’s got the skills to pull this off.

      I say some reassuring words, and when I turn back to the big picture window, the scene has changed from a lake to a large office filled with cubicles. There’s a woman with long, dark hair and glasses working quietly at a desk, and when she looks up to see us seems completely astonished.

      The change is a surprise to me, so I decide to head out the other way from the hotel room. I don’t press the issue with R and let him just hang out in the hotel room. The hotel room exit takes me into a library with a high ceiling. I take advantage of the ceiling space by flying around. I help myself navigate around the room by pointing where I want to go, and it works great!

      After a moment I remember that I need to pursue my goals, so I land and make an attempt at the Jack and the Beanstalk Task of the Year. I produce a seed from behind the back and then plunge my hands into the industrial carpet of the library floor. I find that I can dig it up easily and all these little chunks of foam pop out of the hole I leave behind. I use them to cover the seed back up and start thinking about how I should water it to help it grow.

      As I’m thinking my way through this, the scene goes dark and
      I feel myself lying in bed. I’m super hopeful that it’s just a false awakening, and I even hit the nose pinch. Too bad -- I’m awake!
    2. Second Rescue

      A timely rescue from the "void"/re-stabilization thanks to NewArtemis!

      Lucid #169: Second Rescue

      I’m an astronaut being prepped for a solo spaceflight mission. On this mission, I’ll be studying how various things smell when one is travelling through space. This all feels incredibly important and the pressure of the job is starting to stress me out.

      I do a simulated flight in some kind of simulator that is really just a cheesy little room with stars painted on it. Something about this freaks me out, and I leave the sim, hurrying down a hall and thinking I’m just not cut out for this job. Somewhere along the way it occurs to me that fortunately
      this is all a dream.

      I end up in a two-story library, wood-panelled, and filled with quietly studying DCs. I’m walking along a broad balcony that encircles a lower part of the library that’s filled with bookstacks. Somehow the dream starts to feel like it’s destabilizing, and I grab onto the corner of a nearby table. The dream loses most of its color and the frame rate drops. I just see a slow series of static images, each one moving horizontally and unsteadily across my field of view for a second or so before the next grayish image pops up.

      Everything feels horribly unstable and I’m sure it’s all about to end. I decide to just go for my old trick of directly appealing for help and call for NewArtemis. I hold out my right hand and call her as “NewArtemis” a couple of times before remembering to just use her real name.

      It doesn’t seem to be working for a moment, but after I’ve waited a bit, it finally works! A hand grabs my right shoulder and another grabs my right hand. “I have to come a long way to get here! I was on my way the whole time but you have to give me a second.” She’s speaking very rapidly. “You’ll be fine, there’s nothing wrong with this dream, here, let me fix this…”

      She grips my shoulder and just sort of shakes the hell out of me. It’s surprisingly strong and bone-rattling, but it seems to nicely stabilize the scene. I tell her something along the lines of, “You’re as strong as a chimp.” She laughs and makes some kind of response that I can’t remember.

      We move along the balcony where a cop has posted himself. He looks over and makes a remark about how I’m supposed to be “doing my job” preparing for my trip into space. He’s very unfriendly, speaking and acting as if he wants to arrest me. “Let’s go down this way,” I say to NewArtemis, and we float down to the first floor. The other DCs view this with suspicion, and I try to keep myself from getting panicky and feeling persecuted.

      We exit through an adjacent room, wood-panelled and very elegant. As we’re exiting, a hulking, ogre-like guy comes through the door toward us. I have a false memory that he and I are friends. “Hey man, there’s a cop behind me. Take care of him, will you?” He smirks and nods.

      “You know that guy?” asks Art, referring to the ogre.

      “Yeah, that’s a buddy of mine,” I say, totally buying into the false memory. We go through the door into a darkened restaurant. Through a glass window on our left we see a brightly-lit daycare center. A little girl looks out at us and waves. We wave back as we walk toward the back of the restaurant.

      We approach a booth where a man is inspecting an old record album. The cover is this incredibly vivid picture of a blonde woman in her late 30s apparently named “Ezzilon”. I’m amazed by how vivid the picture on the album is. I’m thinking that we’ll phase outside through the window when I notice that Art’s reflection has changed and she now looks like a mix between herself and “Ezzilon”. It’s a surprising effect and as I’m turning to check for myself,
      the dream ends.

      Lucid #103: Morgan Freeman

      I'm in a library, laying down by some bookshelves and wearing nothing but some boxer shorts. A young, rather wimpy-looking guy with dark hair and glasses is looking through some books about thirty feet away, pretending not to notice me. I quickly throw my clothes on. I have no idea why I was unclothed, but I feel like I should explain myself to this guy.

      I throw together a cover story, approach the guy and explain, "Don't worry! That part of the library is just where I like to recall any sexy dreams that I recently had." He visibly cringes. I cringe too. What in the world made me think that this was a good "explanation"? I feel very confused, both about my own dull-wittedness and the whole situation.

      Embarrassed beyond belief, I mumble an apology and just sort of slink away into a different part of the library. After stewing in my shame for a few seconds, the strong emotion feels weird to me and
      I realize with great relief that I'm dreaming.

      No longer so defensive and inwardly-focused, I examine my surroundings. This part of the library is broad and open, with a floor of pure white marble, and a high, vaulted white ceiling. About fifty feet away is some kind of railing that surrounds a view of a lower floor. I walk toward the railing to check out this lower floor, but I'm distracted when I find myself walking next to Morgan Freeman. He's much shorter than I'd imagined (no taller than 5-foot-6) and moves slowly, as if decrepit and unwell.

      "You're Morgan Freeman," I say. Astonishingly, I speak these words in Morgan Freeman's voice!

      "I am."

      "Heeeeyyyyyyy," I say, testing out my amazing new voice. I do a theatrical hand-wave and really pile on the dramatic reading. "All of this... is a dream!"

      He nods, smiling faintly. "Very nice."

      "Everything sounds a lot better with this voice," I say. "How's this work? Is this dream teaching me how to talk like you? Am I still going to be able to sound like this when I wake up?"

      He stops, giving me a cross look. "No."

      I think for a moment about my goals. I can remember my primary goal of getting to the Alamo to catch up with Art, but I forget the Task of the Month and don't think to talk gibberish to Morgan Freeman. I'm planning on phasing through a wall in order to get outside or enter the void.

      Morgan Freeman seems to sense that I'm about to leave and turns urgently toward me, suddenly speaking very rapidly. "Wait! Before you go, I need to tell you something that you have to do. You need to find Patricia [??some last name??] and you need to tell her about..." His voice becomes garbled and the scene breaks down. I expect to enter the void and transition from there to the Alamo but instead
      I wake up.

      (I do know one Patricia but the last name had more syllables than hers does. I'm still stumped by this last part.)
