Congrats on the 500'th dream...I'm still sub 100... Did you draw those pics yourself? They're really good

Not necessarily from this dream. Another one of my "dreaming frameworks" has been to have the elemental abilities just like in the Legend of Spyro series. This is just one epic dream that spontaneously came up without any prior preparation or planning. As you read more dreams, you might see a small number where I am using the elemental abilities again. To summarise, the inspiration for that competition challenge is from an overall ability, not just this one dream.

Out of curiosity, I've noticed that in the competition, "breathe an element" is one of the challenges; did the idea for that come from this dream?

I don't know if you've discovered yet, but I have a system of dream guides, through incubation, that attend my dreams either to help me or just to act as a companion in my adventures. They are a multi-function of a dream guide and tulpa all in one, acting as a combination of parent, friend, teacher and counsellor but one that I can trust and can express my feelings to them without being judged. My dream guides do appear spontaneously but they are rather more effective if I vigilantly incubate and visualise them throughout the day. I might tell you more about my dream guides in a PM. So, why so consistent? When I have a task in mind, especially one with a dead-line (seeing if I can get a grip on taking an elevator by the end of November), I have to be diligent in my efforts, doing this allows room for error and pointless dreams like 447 and 448. I have a physical notebook that I make these visualisations in every day. Every night, I will either write a letter to the dream guide responsible for assisting with the task (being 18-Volt in this case) or I will write a couple of pages on what I expect from the task and even tactics I can use to eliminate visualisation problems that may occur in the dream.
Yes, I’d noticed your system a bit. It can be a bit difficult to understand it as a whole when I’m looking in from the outside, so I appreciate your detailed explanations.

I sometimes spend hours working or dealing with something I’d like to dream about and often do not see it any more often in my dreams than I would otherwise.

But reading how you describe things and your methods, I feel that you have strong emotion, or passion about it, which to me rarely comes naturally anymore; I suppose I get a strong sense of curiosity and intrigue but somehow it feels distinctly different. Maybe I could do a visual diary like you do.

And for example over the last week I’ve been working on a painting of the black lizard I recently dreamed about. I suppose linked symbolisms have appeared but not what I’m specifically looking for. I also have a painting I made of reality checking hoping to see it in my dreams at some point but perhaps it should be hung somewhere more prominent for it to work, i.e. the bedroom.

Yes actually, there are lot of times in non-lucid dreams where I have a heightened awareness of the situation. It has taken a while to train up this thought but now, I naturally tend to problem solve in non-lucid dreams as well as lucid dreams when I have them. As I said before, non-lucid dreams are more of a regular occurrence than lucids, so I have aimed to improve the quality of my non-lucids, meaning that I have more opportunities to fulfil my goals rather than having to wait for the lucid. Say I wanted 5 dreams to complete a task. Have a lucid a week means that the task would take 5 weeks to complete. Whereas if I did this in my non-lucids, the task would take 5 days to complete, or maybe 7 - 9 if there were any "pointless" dreams in-between. This links onto the concept based on your comment about a persisting personal interest. I will explain this idea in the next paragraph.

Though your last dream sequence was not lucid, in the dream did you feel closer to the threshold of conscious thought (vs the other dreams, for example)?

I find it quite interesting that your dream mind returns to a subject of your own personal interest quite often, as far as I can tell. Has it always been that way or is this the result of dream incubation techniques and the like?

Some things I have ambitions for; other things, I guess I just avoid the problem. I've had insightful chats with so many DV members today, it's crazy! (...) As you would have seen in 437 B, I actually have a waking life phobia of elevators and I "could" be working over the summer holidays, so I'm trying to tackle that. But, I'll keep it in mind to possibly seek out the person that is ABTD again.
Yeah, I see what you mean too.

Even from your dream, I hadn't interpreted/understood that you had a phobia of elevators, sorry about that; though now that you've mentioned it, it's easier for me to understand the context and the elevator scenes. Very recently I got over a phobia of spiders, a phobia which I'd had all my life up until that point, so I know exactly what it's like.

I see what you're saying when you say that continuing hostility may only make it worse, I agree. But sometimes I get so set in my ways that it's hard to steer into another direction straight away. Maybe I could try to meet the ABTD again but I have other more urgent tasks pending at the moment that actually have real life time limit to them.
I also remember that when I was in university I had a lot of stuff to concentrate on too, so I think that's definitely reasonable.

Yep, that's it! I figure that meeting with the ABTD may cause more problems, that's just me. I may just need to program my mind to think that the ABTD is a co-operative being. I'm actually about to post Dream No. 437. In 437 B, you'll see my use of "reverse psychology" to get what I wanted. It was hilarious! And my DG was amused once he found out what I did.
I just finished reading your next DJ entry now. It was quite interesting, especially the two last bits with the elevator(s); and your lucids are certainly quite long (mine only last some seconds/less than a minute anyway ).

I don't know you as a person of course; But I would personally be interested in meeting such an antagonistic character (ABTD) again to discuss their motives, specifically. If it's a part of you, why does it act against you? What are the motivations, are they logical...? That kind of thing. I suppose I have confidence that I can be neutral in a discussion with myself, and that a part of myself would be willing to accept some of my arguments if I accept some of theirs.

Anyway, in my own case... As I've found with nightmares, perpetuating animosity only tends to make it stronger each time. What do you think?

I guess it just happened one time and ever since then, I just guess I've classified the Awareness Behind The Dream as a cheeky little thing. Dream 251 B has a lot of insight on this idea.
I found that DJ entry and read through it; so the ABTD is a meddling dream mastermind? (if I understood correctly )

Anyway, have you tried meeting again since then in another dream?

I'm curious, why do you feel that the dream would always try to interrupt/tamper with your process?

I know, it's frustrating when it happens! Like, go away and surf around on your eReader or something, or go and bother my brother instead XD. But if my family weren't around, then I'm pretty darn sure the dream would find another way to interrupt me and tamper with my tasks

Family (and household members in general) interrupting private moments is just one of those things in life where they seem to be events that are constantly chained for the sole purpose of interruption. My family doesn't appear much at all in my dreams anymore, save for significant symbolic dreams, perhaps because I live far from them now.

Yes, unfortunately. But last night, I made a new discovery; both Dreamy WB and Murray were prevented from helping me as I called for either one and neither one responded. So whereas I originally thought it was just Dreamy WB being played with, I believe a mysterious dream force is hindering any dream guide assistance... Something I need to get to the bottom of.
