I’m at work when a regular comes up to the counter to check out. He talks with me, asking if/when his orders will be in. I nicely tell him not yet, thinking it’s way too early in the day/too soon after he ordered them to be asking. He then gestures at the countertop and asks about the ‘wall’ that we’re going to be putting up. I think about the old sneeze guards, but don’t really think that’s what he’s getting at. I nicely tell him I have no idea.

I’m at work, though it also seems like I’m at home (the setting is definitely the conference room at work, but it feels like I was just home or the rest of the space is the house, Dad’s house more specifically). Sitting in front of the computer but behind a baker’s rack, as it’s still cluttered in here, I pull up a Grateful Dead concert clip on Youtube. It’s something like ‘longest/best Dark Star’, with a timestamp of 20 minutes and some odd seconds. The scene is dark but I can tell from how the band members look that it’s sometime in the 80s. I feel like it’s going to be good. Now, I am inside the scene, onstage with the band. Phil and then Jerry are in my line of sight to the left. I watch them play and watch Phil play a huge and heavy note with a grin. There is communication, verbal or otherwise, about how he plays the bass like a guitar. I’m also playing a bass or guitar, briefly cognizant of how it’s probably unnecessary. I look to Jerry to get his attention and mouth ‘dew’ when he looks, conveying my intent to segue into Morning Dew. He lights up slightly, so I think it’s well received. I get chills thinking about it.

I’m at work and going into the breakroom. John is here with a plate of food - chips and something else. I start making a plate as well. There are some chicken nuggets set out and a tray of what feels like leftover french fries. There are only several chicken nuggets, and I only leave one or two. In the process of making my plate, things on it seem to disappear, so I have to do it again. A couple others now show up, some of which are unfamiliar. They are a couple of women that seem to be visiting for work. One of them tells the employees that they’ll be needing the breakroom, that they can’t eat outside or they’ll be fired. I glibly say it’s fine when I really think it’s ridiculous. I put BBQ sauce and a sour cream dip on my plate and walk outside. It immediately looks like I’ve walked into a backyard with a large lawn. I see most everyone else is sitting in the sun; I veer right into the shade. There are some camp chairs set up with a dog lying under one. I go pet the dog. He accepts it but also nips at me, though not in an unfriendly way. In the chair, Jessica is now to my right and Dad in the chair to her right. We are watching a lightning show on the horizon behind the house. There is some sheet lightning and bolts that aren’t all that close. I notice Jessica’s hand naturally resting between her legs and subtly fidgeting with the seam of her jeans. I initially take it as sexual, though it could just be itching. She also quickly adjusts her bra; I see the cup move beneath the shirt. I glance over to read her shirt and I’m not sure if she takes it as me checking out her chest. I think about explaining myself but don’t. Now, a plane flies fairly close overhead. Another appears and drops two projectiles. They fall for a moment and then start flying this way. They pass overhead, continue on, then explode on the far horizon. In my mind, the far horizon is somewhere like the East Coast, and it’s crazy that I can see it from here.

I’m outside somewhere with Melissa. We’re on some road and approaching a long and steeply inclined overpass. Everyone (I think in cars) slows and stops. Apparently it is closed off suddenly. A man down here is trying to explain the situation to us. I become very angry with him, shouting ‘who are you to tell us what to do with our animals?!’ I guess the scenario has something to do with animals - horses? I end up hitting the man several times but he never reacts.

I’m at work and either about to sort carts or just passing through the warehouse. I notice a black wire rack that I haven’t seen before (it looks similar to the red one we put DVDs on) with handwritten tags on green paper for the subsections in Nonfiction. This is a new process to me, and I wonder if it’s going to make things simpler or more complicated. I also wonder if it was Reika or Jessica who wrote the tags.

I am at work and a man comes in. He looks pretty gruff, and is loosely wearing a bandana or scarf for a mask. He wanders for a minute and then starts talking under his breath at us. I think they are derogatory comments, as I get angry and end up yelling at him. I think it’s Jessica here with me, and she unexpectedly looks glad or impressed that I’m yelling at him. I keep yelling until he leaves, not putting up a fight. Now, Zoe is here and she wants to talk to the man. I’m irritated that she’s so calm about it and treats him like he didn’t do anything wrong.

A short, middle aged woman walks into work with a brown paper bag full of books. I watch from off on the side as she strolls up to the unattended counter, then behind it, and sets her bag on our baker’s rack. She then shouts out “thanks for buying my books!” I can’t believe the audacity of this and wait a few moments before going over there. I sternly tell her that she can’t go behind our counter and then that we aren’t even buying books right now.

I’m at work when an older white man comes in looking for some books. He is overweight and I’m not sure if he’s in a chair or a walker or just extremely hunched over. The books he’s looking for are obscure and I’m pretty certain we won’t have them. We go to look for them (I think it’s 3-4), and the main room of this building actually looks more like a cave or cavern. Now we’re in what looks mostly like the local section, looking in a bin called ‘various’. This is where I think we’ll most likely find his books. He is looking for a Zola, and we find one. The cover mentions something about Hell, and it seems very mature and somewhat occult, which is not what I thought Zola was. In this bin, there is also what looks like paperwork and/or mail. Looking through all of it, I see something addressed to me. It’s something about a gun permit. I think it’s very old, as in back when I hunted, or a CCW, which I don’t remember ever getting.

I’m getting my hair cut by Tess. I think she’s talking to someone, and she’s doing a very haphazard job. She finishes quickly and then says something about it being good if I’m an entertainer. Running my hands over it, it is textured but extremely smooth.

I’m at work when a taller blonde man comes up to the counter. I think he is trying to check out, but is being deceptive about something in an attempt to steal it? I see through what he is doing and say I’ll need to see the items, or something similar. He then gets defensive and starts walking out. I start following him. Now, there is something about a girl with a ton of books outside, and me taking one of them. There are so many that I think there’s no way she’ll have them inventoried or know which I’ve taken, but apparently she does, and becomes aggressive. I have to run from her (it seems like we’re in a large, old school or castle). Her books are out here in an open area or courtyard in bankers boxes. It takes up probably 40 x 40 feet, with stacks 2-3 boxes high. Looking at the random seeming assortment of books in one of the boxes, I can’t believe that she really knows what’s here. There are also chain stanchions around the area. It seems dark out.

I am at work and some lady has wheeled in three of our carts full of DVDs. She seems exhausted by the time she gets to the counter, and I let her know we’re not buying. On second thought, I guess because she really has a lot, I go see if someone wants to buy them. I walk into the kids room and there are a few team members in here. I see the back of someone, a tan shirt and brown hair, and correctly call out ‘Jessica’ before she turns around.

I am training the new person at work on her first day. I think she is here just after opening and it is already slightly busy. This makes it hard for me to actually train her and it is frustrating me. She is up at the register and actually seems to be helping customers already. At times I think she is on her phone up here, which is pretty bold for her first day. I think that she doesn’t really seem like the type to work here.

I’m at work (I’m not sure where, but it feels like some kind of retail store). I notice a quiet Asian girl wandering around and, as I perceive it, ‘scoping out the place’. I make a mental note of it but don’t do anything else. Now, I see her in a small garage (right outside of but still part of the store?), crouching down by a car. She’s taken off its license plate and is measuring it. I think this is too suspicious, so we go out and stop/talk to her.

I’m with Melissa and Brooke in what seems like downtown. We’re by the river and a large bridge. To the side of the bridge is a large tree or tree trunk protruding out almost parallelly over the water. I think this tree is some sort of monument (911?). We walk out onto it to have our picture taken, but end up breaking it, which feels very serious.

I am at work. There is a man in line who has a few things and looks somewhat sketchy. He gets up to the counter and asks for some ice because he’s ‘recycling’ his beer. I think this means it’s warmed up and he’s trying to cool it down rather than throw it away. I tell him to hang on a second and go back to get some. I tell a guy in the back this scenario, as if I had to tell him yes. I’m still not sure if this is something we’re supposed to do, but I think it’s fine. The ice bin is long and also full of fabric bags. I fill one, unsure of how much he really needs. Back in the front, I see him with a small stack of DVDs and casually rushing out the front door. Julia is here and says something like ‘Wow, well go kick him out’ as if this was obviously my fault. I run out to at least get a plate. He’s gotten into a small, rusty yellow car with a woman in the passenger’s seat. He has to back straight out, so I see the plate, but it has a plastic covering and the numbers behind it start spinning like a combination lock. Terribly smart, I think, even though it’s disappointing. I pick up a rock and throw it but miss. I try a few more times, even as they’re stopped at a red light down the street.

I am at work, and someone is looking for The Fountainhead. Over in the classics section, I can’t find a single copy, or any Ayn Rand for that matter. I think I even check Fiction just to be sure. Luke is here, so I ask if he’s seen one. He says no, but does help look around. I think I finish up with the customer when he brings over a tall, thick (textbook size) paperback. Apparently it is a version of the Fountainhead without any editing? I go to find the customer to suggest it, but by the time I do this book looks like it’s about something else entirely.

I’m at work, and there is some discussion about who's going to drive the forklift. I think they need to train someone and/or need someone for just a bit right now. I consider doing it, though I also think that there’s something about Kyle doing it. Now, Jessica? has brought cake, and it seems like we’re in a house. The cake is chocolate with a copious amount of frosting, and it is very good.

I am at work when a guy comes up, looking for recommendations on a book about [something that didn’t seem like an English word - like Hua?] and houses. He sees me confused about the word and clarifies: sci-fi. I immediately think of House of Leaves and take him over there. He excitedly shows me the book already in his hands - House of Leaves. There are a few copies on the shelf, really slender hard covers that I’ve never seen before. I open one that is very new feeling. I don’t know much about sci-fi, so I plan on telling him what’s been popular recently. Now I’m back at the counter and see a brunette, middle aged lady come in without a mask. I go up to her and tell her she needs one in the store. She is dismissive and defensive, but does start walking out. She then comes back, first staying by the door, then coming all the way in. I go over again and the situation escalates to where I am calling the police on her for trespassing. This seems to scare her, as she hurriedly walks out. I follow her. I end up tackling her and holding her down until the police arrive. On the phone I said that I was calling from 660 E. Grove Streets, wondering why I said ‘streets’. I said there was a woman trespassing and start describing her, putting her weight at 180 pounds. They now arrive and handcuff her. I think she looks defeated. A woman officer says something about her being closer to 200 lbs and good thing she wasn’t bigger. I say yes, I just barely managed. There’s a white male officer and black female officer. They aren’t wearing masks and I wonder about it for a moment.
