Interesting! Yeah, my fiancee has been watching the Real Housewives and so naturally I end up absorbing a lot of it. It's pretty awful. Luckily she's caught up with New Jersey and the OC now so I'm safe for a while

Woah! We both had the impressions of housewives in our dreams. Check out my entry today (luxurious house setting).
Do you record your dreams bedside as soon as you wake from them, no matter what time? I get the impression that your TAZ reunion dream was written down while half conscious

It's strange, for all the painting and drawing I do and have done in my life, I have never dreamt of drawing or painting. I have dreamed of paintings, but they weren't mine either. Dream-generated artwork does tend to be pretty good for me too, even if it's not mine.

Darkest -- Funny you say that, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is one of my favorite games (and definitely the best implementation of lightsaber combat I've played). I love pushing or pulling enemies over cliffs, especially in that crystal level I'm not a huge SW fan either but I'm pretty sure a Sith Hutt was entirely the work of my dream state, and Lucas would not approve lol.

FireFlyMan -- The 3 hours part was entirely coincidental actually! I got up to walk my dog first, then my fiancee called me because she forgot her glasses for work, so I drove there, then I was already out so I went to the store, then I decided to go ahead and put the slow cooker on, and by the time I had finished I was thinking to myself "Shit. Not gonna get lucid after this" lol. I did end up having the weird short lucid with the roach, but the star wars dream happened before, right around my usual weekend alarm type when my mind wakes me up (usually around 4:55 or 5, which is a piss-off because the alarm isn't until 5:30 ;_; ).

All in all, I can say that lightsaber dreams are totally fucking rad. 10/10 would dream again.

3 hours WBTB? You really worked hard for this LD. And given how exciting this dream looked, I'm sure it was totally worth the effort!

The Star Wars fighting reminded me of Jedi Knight 2 for some reason; fun game, usually used force grip a lot to throw enemies/players into pits/over cliffs.

Mostly just curious since I'm not a super avid Star Wars fan, but in the SW universe's lore would something like a lightsaber wielding Hutt be likely/possible? Not something I ever considered.

      Cool lucid anyway.

I had guessed F and D from your previous entries.

Thanks for the clarification, just wasn't sure if 9 was a nickname for a person.

Yeah, I needed a shorthand for some common abberviations because my thumbs always suffer when I type out "childhood home", especially when I'm fat-fingering it in the morning on my phone (I just summed up the numbers of the address to come up with 9)

Common Abbreviations - [F] My fiancee [D] My dog [CH/9] Childhood home [APT/8] Current apartment

I know! I actually rehearsed it in the mirror in the night before and had it pretty much worked out. Basically I would hold my arms out at my sides, and then quickly raise them up while the "old arms" stayed in place, creating two arms, two shoulders, etc. I even sort of moved around, imagining the awkwardness (people don't typically think about it when depicted in fantasy, but you'd have to deal with two sets of shoulder blades, and then how would the traps and lats connect? Traps to the top set and lats to the bottom?) and imagining doing some tasks like throwing punches, picking things up, touching the arms with the other arms, sort of just phantom-limbing it. It's an interesting multi-sense visualization (there has to be a good word for this -- perceptualization?) anyway.

I think I could have pretty easily done it if I had a mirror in the dream, that's when I have the most success with transforming my own body. When transforming DCs, it's usually really simple. For changing facial features/other fine details, I usually use smartphone-like finger gestures. I've deformed limbs often by pulling on them or imagining their dimensions changing. But anyway it was a new goal and not the main focus of my dream so I'm not too bummed. I'll try it again soon!

Too bad the extra arms thing didn't work, any particular reason you think it didn't?

Hmm, I never thought of using spare A4 paper for DJing, I usually have that lying around (I draw on A4 a lot too, especially when they're just sketches I plan to throw away).
      You throw away sketches?

About the omitted stuff, some things I feel are a little too racy for DV I still keep these omitted pieces in my physical DJ since I mostly write in it using my own cipher. That probably seems like a lot of extra effort but I still do it, partly for fun, partly in case my parents or someone come over, I don't want them to find a book with full details of me banging random DCs, real life people, or in this case, a tree.
Fair enough, I can understand that concern. I have only lived with my partner for the last couple of years so I have no concern of anyone reading my stuff now, and that's partly why I don't mind keeping a public DJ like here on DV (since likely other people interested in dreaming are gonna be reading anyway), but when I used to live with my parents I did keep the stuff in a drawer anyway (not that they'd be able to read, since I wrote in English and my writing is dreadful, though my siblings might).

I generally never dream anything that's too "racy" but if I did I would probably keep a separate entry too I suppose.

I agree about the room being just for sleeping thing, I think it helps a lot in getting "in the zone". The steno pad on the bedside table works the best for me. When I have to get up and go to the bathroom and write them on my phone, sometimes I lose one or two more than I would have.

I can relate to your writing experience in the darkness. My writing is not particularly easy to read either, even for myself at times. Many times on random scribbles I simply remember what I wrote if it's quite bad.

When I kept hand-written DJ entries, I usually used blank A4 sheets because it's what I used to draw on as well, and my room was where I did all my drawing back then. These days my room is mostly just for sleeping, which really is what it should be for, but it has created this slight gap between me and keeping a DJ, which has pros and cons. The main con, really, is having to make myself have the motivation to get up and go through into a different room to write a single journal entry for that morning.

About the omitted stuff, I suppose mostly wondered if you didn't feel they were appropriate to share. Anyway, sounds to me like you put a good amount of effort into your DJ.

Thanks for taking the time to read it! Yeah, on the weekends since I tend to get so much sleep (close to 10-12 hours usually) I have a LOT of dreams. So on these days (and also whenever my fiancee isn't working or I have more time to journal) I keep a steno pad on the bedside table.
Unfortunately, my handwriting is so bad that no one can read it even when I'm writing in the daylight, fully consciously, with a good posture So you can imagine how bad it is when I'm in the dark, on my side, reaching for the bedside table, and scribbling softly so as not to shake the bed or make too much sound and wake her or the dog lol. I usually get lucky and can pick out a couple of words in the morning that bring me back to the memory. But sometimes its too bad, or in the dark I unknowingly write several sentences over the same spot, or I just get lazy (or try to DEILD) and never write them down in the first place.

Just curious, even though you've omitted some dreams from this DJ entry, did you make note of them elsewhere?

Anyway, this is quite a lot you've got in a single entry. Interesting read.

Good point Darkest! Today I was thinking the same thing over, and after practicing something new and incorporating the anchor (clear sight, clear sound, clear touch, grounded, calm, confident, etc.) into it, I think it could really be helpful addition to my routine. Also bonus points for mentioning speed reading, my grandpa has always been really into that and lent me a couple of books on the subject. Although I never got very good at it

As for the new thing I was practicing, I guess I'll call it Wake Journaling for now. It's basically doing a session of ADA for 10-20 minutes, doing something else to get your mind off of it, and then writing in your DJ a full account of the things you noticed/saw/felt/heard/thought; also adding the kinds of things you would have done if it had been a dream. I think doing this once a day might pay some healthy dividends, and I'll probably post something more in-depth after a couple of weeks of trying it.

      Cheers!

in retrospect this is extremely long, but I think I'll try it out for a few new nights anyway
On this point, I might make a small suggestion; do not necessarily consider it to be too long, it might be self defeating if you also think it might work well for you. Yes, perhaps verbally it takes a long time to speak it out, but then, in a dream, how long is a moment, truly?

Also consider that the same verbal thought is something you can feel too. For example, in text; when reading words you do not need to necessarily hear them in your head to be able to understand a sentence. We do it out of habit. Though it may require some focus, this becomes obvious if you practice speed-reading, for example.

Darkest -- that's an interesting insight on the fine line between expectation/intention and desire. I can definitely get behind the notion that confident expectation (usually) yields positive results, whereas mere desires can sometimes thwarted by the dream brain. I'll have to think on that.

On the topic of nightmares, it seems like a lot of people on DV had past experience with them and either that's what brought them to LDing. Strangely, I almost never had this experience (at least not vivid nightmares). I often wish I could induce them as well to turn them around into LDs. Maybe I should stress myself out more

      Thanks for the comment!

About your dream-brain replacing the people, my experience is that this relates to the expectation part of dreaming. As you are probably aware, expectation in general plays a role during dreams themselves - such as expecting a scary thing to appear, and then it does; even if this isn't always consistent.

However, counter-intuitively, the more we want something, even in the form of expectation, we may get further away from it. I've inadvertently stopped having nightmares for this reason; some years ago when I got into lucid dreaming as a whole, I wanted to have them quite badly because of the vivid experience but ever since I set that desire, it's pretty much not happened apart from a couple of times over the last couple of years, at times when I was probably quite stressed about something; they are just that rare now.

I'm not suggesting that every intention you set will be met with a counter-force from your dream-brain; my experience doesn't really suggest that, I'm more trying to suggest there may be a finer line between intention and desire for the dream-brain. I get mixed results all the time on this, but then I'm not the most focused person around.

Anyway, all just my opinion/experience, but do let me know what you think.
