trying to start a lawn mower... (dream explained)

Morning of June 17, 2014. Tuesday.

    Dream #: 17,347-01. Reading time: 58 sec.

My dream begins with my false awareness of having the job to mow Colleen’s backyard lawn (on Avon Street) in La Crosse in the late morning. My brother-in-law Bob is also near, preparing to trim some hedges and repair a part of the shed. Neither Colleen nor Bob speak at any time.

My dream vivifies as I begin the repeating act of pulling the lawnmower’s pull-cord on its right side. Although the cord does not stick, the lawnmower does not start. I try it several times. I move it to another part of the backyard, but it still does not start. The kinaesthetic events cause me to wake to realize my arm was in an uncomfortable position.

Dream type: Instinctual to liminal kinaesthetic imperative.

Dream content causation: This dream is the result of an instinctual process of attempting to move my arm while sleeping - into a more comfortable position. (Engines represent potential wakefulness. The second correlation is that my longer waking transition is a result of sleep atonia and lesser blood flow. I do not achieve wakefulness while still in sleep paralysis, and myoclonus is minimal.)

Bob is the precursory sleep-wake personification (not utilized, only witnessed) in this instance. Trimming hedges and repairing a part of the shed are both forms of navigating the liminality of dream space.

If the lawnmower had started, I might have indulged in the imaginary task of mowing the lawn and not awakened sooner to move my arm.
