    Fooled

I entered this menthol lucid via an in-dream WILD but never picked up on the fact that I had entered from a dream. I also got completely fooled by a false awakening, not waking up for real until long after the dream had ended. Because of that, a lot of the LD is pretty scrambled, including a couple possible Task of the Month attempts. Still, this one's filled with amusing little tidbits.

    Color legend: Non-dream Dream Lucid

    Lucid #71: Fooled

I am wandering in my house during the day, thinking about lucid dreaming. I decide to visit DreamViews (on my Kindle?), starting with the Task of the Month thread.

I see a post from PennyRoyal and suddenly remember that I'm supposed to be making him a fake ID. I remember that he badly needs this ID and I'm way, wa behind on producing it.
(Needless to say, this is not true!) Being on DV and getting reminded of this task I'm putting off makes me feel like a slacker and a procrastinator, so I close the site.

I sit on the floor of the living room and pick up a strange comic book with moving pictures. The hero, a billionaire similar to Bruce Wayne, does a parkour safety vault over a railing onto the front porch of his mansion. I watch the move replay over and over, thinking about how I should find a spot to learn the safety vault near the house or the office.

Eventually I decide that maybe I should just practice this vault myself in a lucid dream. I lay down on the floor of the den to attempt a WILD and
instantly emerge standing in the living room of my house! I gloat to myself about what a stud I've become at WILD. I rub my hands together and walk into the kitchen.

There's a man standing in the kitchen and after conversing with him, I learn that he needs a sword. I conjure one into my right hand. The sword is awesome and looks just like the one He-Man uses. I give the sword to the DC, but he looks disappointed. He complains that "it's not a magic sword." This annoys me, so I tell him that if he wanted a magic sword then he should have asked for a magic sword. He hurls himself on the ground and throws a massive tantrum, bawling, rolling around, and kicking his feet like a toddler.
(This may have been me granting a DC a wish, but I do not remember properly asking the question, so I will not count this as a Task of the Month completion.)

Annoyed, I walk away from the DC. I look for the note that I left myself for TotM. I don't know whether I find it, but the dream destabilizes somewhere inside the house and I have a false awakening that puts me back lying on the floor of my den. I think about writing the dream down, but I'm distracted when I look over at our couch and have sexy thoughts about doing stuff with Wife on it. I'm surprised by how vivid my imagination is right now. I vaguely remember consuming menthol, but when? (I had peppermint tea at WBTB.) Is menthol why I'm thinking about happy happy fun time?

Then I have another memory of recently eating popcorn.
(Also true, right before bed.) I realize that I have one of those annoying little popcorn hulls stuck between my two front teeth. I absentmindedly conjure a box cutter into my right hand and use it to pick the hull out of my teeth.

I finally remember to write the lucid dream down. I open up some sort of notebook to write the dream down but it's just filled with Wikipedia pages. These Wikipedia pages contain hyperlinks that respond to my touch, so I surf around for a while reading about stuff. I think about how much you can learn these days without even talking to anybody. I wonder how we introverts used to learn before the internet. Oh yeah, I think, there were always books. I happily surf Wikipedia for a while,
and I remember nothing after that.

Ah dude! Menthol works really well for you. I wish I had that kind of luck with it. I dont even get happy happy fun time thoughts but that's ok with me.

You were really close to two TOTM. You could almost count that first one but I guess it was unintentional. I didnt even think of any tasks last night though it was a really low level lucid.

I am waiting for my renewed Driver's License to come in the mail though, you can get started on that if you like

Yeah, I think that dosage made a big difference! Even though I've had menthol lucids w/ only 3 tea bags, results were a little less consistent in terms of lucidity. The dreams were also distinctly unsexy (which is fine.) 6 tea bags seems to create a stronger effect. I don't remember what dosages you used. Were you using cough drops I guess?

Thanks, man, I do get the feeling that I was probably asking that or thinking of it when talking to the DC, but I'll wait for a dream where I have a concrete memory of doing it right. On the first night of the month, I'm more than happy with a close call!

Ha ha, I know... that struck me as really funny that I'd cast you in that role.

Hey! That's kinda cool! Clairvoyance, baby!

Don't you feel better knowing that the DMV has entrusted your driver's license renewal to some idiot having a lucid dream?

Hahaha, to be honest.. I don't know about the DMV where you live, but in California I might be better off.

Your not the only one with a scrambled memory - I just had one which I wrote about a few mins ago. In a few of my lucids, I become lucid after false awakening and then go back into a dream or some combination involving false awkening. I haven't gone into detail about how scrambled it is but the one thing I don't remember well was writing stuff down in my dream journal at one point (even though I knew I was dreaming funnily enough). Your recall sounds detailed - in my case I edited fuzzy details to make mine overall sound coherent. Same with you?

@PennyRoyal - Ahh, dude, good luck! We lived in California for 3 years and I remember that the cost to register a vehicle was astronomical.

@LiamDreamer - Cool, man, glad I'm not alone! I'll check yours out here in just a minute and compare notes!

That's nice of you to say. I agree that the recall for the non-lucid portion was some of my better work for a dream I didn't wake up from immediately. The lucid portion, though, was just way more scrambled than normal. When I'm in an LD I have this feeling like I'm having an incredibly important experience and have to remember every detail. In addition, it's rare for me to totally lose lucidity and I normally wake up and write the memories while they're fresh. This means that my recall after a lucid is usually very strong, in many cases on par w/ solid waking life memories. But in this one I lost big, important chunks of conversation with the kitchen DC and totally scrambled every lucid thing that I did afterward, particularly my hunt for the note that I left myself.

Ah well! Hopefully I won't let the next false awakening take me for a ride.

Woo, go menthol! I'm interested in seeing if it keeps increasing your imagination that way, because that's definitely what it does to me. Good stuff!

It sucks that you lost some of the lucid memories, there's still plenty of time left this month at least lol. I've had that happen before too, where I entered a lucid from another dream, and it was actually really hazy... like it felt really different from a regular lucid, but I wasn't sure why until later when I actually woke up (and I had a false awakening first, too). It sounds like it was still clearheaded for you, though, right?

      Geez, what a BAMF. XD

Menthol is cool. I wonder whether I'll ever increase from 6 bags. I get good results from 6 bags and already feel like I'm breathing peppermint fire after I finish drinking it. There's a touch of insomnia risk, too, so I tend to bring in some L-theanine at the moment. Still, you have to wonder... what's at the next level?

Great question. In some ways, I know that I was behaving reasonably clear-headed in the dream, but the fact that I bought into the whole "instant WILD" thing is a sign that the lucid was low- or mid-level at best. I have done an in-dream WILD to an LD one other time and I was not fooled, immediately realizing I had emerged from another dream. That LD was recalled much more clearly, although my guess is that whether I wake up right away is the biggest factor.

The fact that I was clearly trying to perform tasks is a good sign, but recall was just so choppy!

      Geez, what a BAMF. XD
Ha ha, I know! My waking, sissy self would have done something wimpy like probe at the hull for hours w/ my tongue before finally giving up and getting the floss. Dream me goes right for the box cutter. LOL.

Hey, I almost missed this one! Great thing with the adult temper tantrum. Can't be happy with a plain sword. Noooo, he needs a magic sword. What, he can't chop people up with a plain one?

And a box cutter! You, sir, are a badass. "Need a toothpick?" "No man, I've got my boxcutter."

Ha ha, I know! But maybe that tantrum was a blessing in disguise. A DC this immature has no business waving a magic sword around in my subconscious!

And a box cutter! You, sir, are a badass. "Need a toothpick?" "No man, I've got my boxcutter."
<-- Got your box cutter handy?

Why thank you! I need to start doing badass stuff like this in real life. It just doesn't come naturally to me as it should. My dream self, on the other hand, is so badass that he doesn't even realize he is doing something completely badass.

The next time that I get a popcorn hull stuck in my teeth, I'll remember that it's not an annoyance. It's an opportunity to be awesome.

This menthol thing - is it 6 bags of peppermint tea you have or does it have to be pure menthol crystal tea?

I have just been using 6 bags of normal peppermint tea that I picked up in the grocery store. In about two cups of water or so, that's pretty strong tasting, but I like it. I had to experiment to find the right level and I'm still not sure that I've found it.

If you're at all interested in menthol, Alyzarin's thread w/ her original research is just off the charts awesome: http://www.dreamviews.com/research/1...-enhancer.html

I tried 2 bags in one large mug, then another cup of 3 next last nite. I suspect it was a little diluted compared to yours but to be fair managed a vivid dream before first awakening, then vague semi-lucidity with dream sex, awakening to me humping the bed (not sure if false or not).

Wow! Sounds successful indeed! You should post your success stories to the thread sometime. The whole menthol experiment is an ongoing research project, so more data's always good.

Sorry, I forget that "cups" are a US measurement! This works out to a little under half a liter. I have a big glass that I just fill up with water, pour it into a pot, bring it to a boil, and lay down the 6 bags. It's strong! And it sounds like you have great success with fewer bags.

I drink mine during the WBTB but many in the experiment have had good luck with drinking it before bed.

Well, I don't know if you saw Wolfwood's experiment in the thread, but after eating an entire bag of cough drops he had four sex dreams in a row.
