    Color legend: Non-dream Dream Lucid

    Lucid #265: Pinbasketball

I’m lying in bed in a false awakening, frustrated to be tossing and turning instead of lucid dreaming. I get a vague sense of floatiness and decide to roll out OBE-style. I imagine my legs oozing over the side of the bed onto the floor and now I’m on my feet in my bedroom, fully lucid.

I remember my intent to slow down and take my time, inspired by one of Dreamer’s recent lucid dreams (this amazing one.) I look back at the bed and see Wife still lying there. For some reason I feel a little scared to approach, like this might destabilize things. But no, the whole idea with this dream is not to be afraid of stuff.

I float up on the bed and stand over Wife. I watch for a moment just appreciating her beauty. I'm attracted to her and fascinated by her realism I don’t feel tempted to engage in sexy shenanigans. Wife opens her eyes a bit and looks at me sleepily. “Poo,” she says firmly. “Poo poo poo poo poo.” I laugh and say something like, “Okay, I’ll let you sleep…”

I phase through the wall into the night and the dream feels very dark. I don’t worry about it and instead just rub my hands together. They feel numb and distant, so I imagine that I’m wearing thick, leathery gloves, which I peel off. More hand-rubbing, vision returns, and now it looks like early morning on a mix between my street, an amusement park, and the Las Vegas strip. I walk for about 10 minutes or so, just enjoying this, passing opulent hotels, workers sweeping the streets, a stone statue.

Eventually I wander into a plaza that looks a little like a Disney World food court. I remember my goal of summoning Iokheira and transforming into wolves. :canislucidus: I hold out my right hand and look at the ground, expecting her shadow to form. But instead she bounds into the scene from the right and jumps right in front of me, smiling hugely.

I give her a hug and ask, “Did you want to do the wolf transformation right away or should we look around first?” She says that she’d “rather play” so we set off, looking around the park. We talk for a bit about lucid dreaming and (I think) video games. I describe how I’m trying to use Dreamer’s method of slowing the dream. I remark that we have “tons of time” and she agrees.

We wind up in an area filled with carnival games and enter a building that has this cool-looking game that’s a combination of pinball and one of those games where you have to shoot a basketball. In this one you throw the basketball into a hole, where it flies up a ramp, bounces off of a wall, and hurtles toward the basket. We play for a while, and I notice that when I get too into the game, both Iokheira and I forget to give the other person a turn.

We decide to keep looking around, and as we’re leaving I notice that Iokheira now looks a decade or so older than in waking life and I mention this. As we pass by a line of 5 women waiting in line to buy something, I see that she’s transformed further, and now looks like a completely different person, a woman with short brown hair in her early 50s. The woman looks like she feels ill and asks me to help her. I scoop her up and carry her outside where we crouch on the ground. She apologizes: “I’m sorry that I don’t look right. I don’t think I’m her anymore.” I tell her not to worry and that I’ll help her either way.

The woman lies down on her left side and vomits loudly onto the plaza stones. I feel enormous compassion, and I sit with her for a while, rubbing her back a bit until she’s able to sit up. She seems shorter now than before but also like she feels okay. She again apologizes for not being Iokheira anymore. I reassure her that “this has been a great lucid” as the dream starts to fade. As I’m pondering my next move,
    the dream ends.

      Hi Canis,
I look back at the bed and see Wife still lying there.
, are you lying there too?

I like your interaction with the dream figures. Like,
I feel enormous compassion, and I sit with her for a while, rubbing her back a bit until she’s able to sit up.

Hi Canis, , are you lying there too?
@Tihiti - Hey Tihiti! No, I wasn't there in this case! When I get out of bed in that OBE style, it varies a bit whether or not I'll leave a sleeping body behind. This time I just left an empty space in bed. It would have been cool if I was still there! I'd have liked to have shown the guts to interact somehow with my sleeping self.

I like your interaction with the dream figures. Like,
Thanks, it felt nice. I'm glad that you can understand where I was coming from choosing to spend a little time helping her out. Certain dream figures in particular just have so much life in them.

Not like giant spiders, which we're better off just taking care of with the shotgun, am I right?

Haha Its funny how your wife just kept repeating poo. Also, it sounds like you had a great lucid time
playing with lokheira. Its too bad her dc turned sick though.Maybe you should have summoned dr.mario to cure her. I wonder how that would have turned out. x3

@DawnEye11 - Ha ha, thanks, she was pretty funny. I asked Wife the next morning what she might have been trying to tell and she was unable to enlighten me as to what "poo" meant.

Your Dr. Mario idea actually sounds really cool! I summoned the Frozen princesses for my son in a recent lucid, and that makes me wonder how other characters (like Dr. Mario or the cast of the Street Fighter series or Samus Aran or whoever!) would appear in-dream!

Have you summoned a video game character in a lucid before?

ha ha Canis, yes I momentarily 'lost it' with the spider! Next time it gets a big hug.

It seems like you are getting more and more advanced with your dream control. I was impressed how you didn't let the feeling of your hands bother you. Instead, you decided you had gloves on and took them off. Nice thinking.

I laughed when your wife said poo poo. It's funny the random things DCs say. And good job on confronting your fear no matter how small it may have been.

Ok you are going to have to explain Dreamer’s method of slowing the dream.

Did you find the feeling of compassion passing into your waking life that morning? It seems like when I do this it really makes my day better. I am trying to be more mindful how I treat DCs. I am not always successful, but I think the practice of treating people right should continue even into dream time. I tend to feel really guilty when I troll a DC and would rather avoid that.

This was a really good LD, man. You always impress me.

xD I guess it will forever remain a mystery where Poo came from than.hehe I've summoned Marth and Link to fight other dcs in my lucid dreams before. Also, I remember sonic appearing in a lucid dream before but all he did was run around. Perhaps they would behave in more interesting ways in your dream. Link, Marth and Sonic didn't talk much.

      CanisLucidus,

I really liked the fact that you imagined gloves and took them off, to make rubbing your hands more tactile! And the compassion you showed toward your DC- that was really sweet. It sounds like you had a really nice lucid experience here. I like the idea of slowing things down a bit- having all the time in the world.

That sounds so cool! You seem to have seen a great deal in this ld, plus all of the stuff you came accross was really interesting to look at and engage in. Also, I'm once again amazed with your sense of time during lds. For me there are only two measures - "feels like I've been here a long time" and its opposite.

Awesome play at the canival games and the woman's story was so realistic.

I read this dream when you posted it, but only just got the time to comment...

I love that you were able to relax and take your time - it sounds like time wasn't something you needed to worry about at all!
Your interactions with the DCs were really beautiful.
I'm glad you were able to enjoy taking in the dreamscape - that's something I spend surprisingly little time doing in most of my dreams. I've been working on that more lately and I've found it to be really peaceful and enjoyable.

I know you've been feeling rotten with the flu this week, but I hope it helps to know that you have more happy dream experiences to look forward to really soon!

Hey everyone! Thanks so much for the comments! I'm sorry for disappearing. I got sick with some kind of horrid flu and have been playing catch-up in all areas of my life for the past week and a half.

Ok you are going to have to explain Dreamer’s method of slowing the dream.
@Xanous - For sure, man! The essence of the technique is to always take your time and avoid being in a hurry. So long as you remember that you have tons of time, you will. Dreamer explains it really well in this DJ entry:

That's cool! I hadn't really considered whether it bled into waking life immediately in the day following, but I imagine that our attitudes in lucid dreams are bound to be a form of training for how we view the world in waking life. Not that there's anything wrong with being nutty and impulsive in dreams... that's just how our brains works in dreams sometimes! But I like the idea of using dreams to explore and foster a sense of compassion.

It's something that feels really good but can be hard to remember to engage in the face of waking life's stresses. So it seems like a nice thing to practice! More than anything, I guess, is that it felt right in the moment, which I think is usually a good guide for getting the most out of a lucid. At least in my experience.

And thanks, man, I really appreciate that!

@darknightedlady - Thanks, darknightedlady! Yeah, I was surprised that the glove idea came to me, but it worked well. And thank you, it was a great LD and I really enjoyed myself. I'm glad that I let things slow down enough for me to allow this to unfold rather than rushing off!

      - You're right, it's a funny thing about time! While I'm in the dream I tend to be interested in how much time has passed. Particularly in cases like this where it's something that I'm studying specifically. Lucid dreams still fascinate me and make me feel a sense of wonder and I've often got a bit of a scientist impulse in my head when I'm LDing, like I want to study the mechanics of the experience. And what I'll often remember upon waking are my observations from within the dream state.

But don't get me wrong, there's always lots of guesswork too when I'm estimating how long I've been in a dream. A lot of it is also taking inventory of what I did, the little moments I can remember, and piecing it together.

I love that you were able to relax and take your time - it sounds like time wasn't something you needed to worry about at all!

@Dreamer - Yeah, I loved it! Thanks for getting this idea of slowing the experience into my head. (Hopefully now I'll never let this idea go!) I think that it's tremendously helpful not only in raising the length but also the quality of a lucid dream. Why spend that time worrying?

You know, I wonder whether this goes hand in hand with treatment of DCs. If we're worrying about running out of time in a dream, we might view DCs as this big distraction that's standing between us and what we want. It's hard to feel compassionate in that mindset! I know that IWL I'm the least compassionate when I feel like I'm being desperately pulled toward some other urgent matter.

I know you've been feeling rotten with the flu this week, but I hope it helps to know that you have more happy dream experiences to look forward to really soon!
Thanks so much! It's great to be back!

Cool I'll have to give that a good read later.

I guess the flip side of DC treatment is they can offer a release. I recently had a work lucid that I got to let out some negative feelings and while it may or may not have been a good thing it still was a release.

Yeah, I honestly feel like if something seems positive and healthy in the moment, that's the best guideline for LD behavior in general. I feel like that's a simple enough guideline that even my LD-brain can follow it, heh heh...

Hope you're doing much better and by the time I've managed to reply had put some of that backlog of work behind. It's been yet another hectic week for me as well and I'm behind with everything.

I couldn't agree more about wanting to understand the mechanics of the experience. This is something I also keep trying to do, both irl and while in the dream. Sometimes it really bothers me that I can't fully understand what is happening at least not with all the knowledge we have available at the moment. At the same time, the fact that there is so much more to learn makes it so exciting.

And I agree! Lucid dreaming is such a fascinating thing to experience as well as a fascinating thing to study! That's why a lot of times I feel compelled to do both at once!
