    Too much indecisiveness

    by , 06-08-2013 at 12:35 AM (829 Views)
    Date: 7 June

    Total sleep time: 8+ hrs

    Pre bed: SJW, B6

Sleep quality and WBTB: I have been sleeping like a sloth all week long. One thing I have changed in my WBTB routine was to switch from using an alarm to using natural wakes. This has worked out partially fine. I do wake up naturally 2-3 times after sleeping 4-5 hrs. I think that in this way I am allowing my body to determine the best time for WBTB, instead of me forcefully using the alarm. The only problem is that, out of fear not to cause insomnia and possibly due to laziness, my WBTBs were not as serious as they should have been, thus not raising alertness to desired for LD levels. Will have to work on that.

Dream recall: While my recall has been somewhat reduced by my sleepiness, I have additionally been skimming my dreams. I have been putting only keywords instead of journaling, which has allowed me to...sleep more. The dreams weren't too interesting, so there wasn't much that I have missed apart from a brief lucid yesterday, that I couldn't access at all. I think that's fine so far.

    WBTB: peppermint oil capsules

Dream1 DILD: I missed the transition. I suddenly find myself in front of my parents' place but the way it was a few years ago. I spend some time looking around, feeling happy. Then the neighborhood begins to morph into other buildings from my home town, so I stop staring at them, because I feel that I am causing the change. I check out my hands and they are in a mudra. After yesterday's discussion, I now wonder if I should try meditating in the dream or try to recall a past memory. I spend too much time in idleness and the dream escapes. I find myself in the void.

I feel that if I wake up I can successfully DEILD back. I am in the void and not back in bed yet but get confused because I feel my body? Obviously this is my dream body and some dream is starting to form, but I think that I am in my bed feeling my real body. In real life I am sleeping in my bed, but the body I feel while in the void is sitting in a chair. I am too dumb to realize that this is my dream body, get irritated with the strange position I have assumed, try to change it and lie down? I struggle in the dark. Then I wake up in another dream.

Dream2: Short FA, where I am in bed, reviewing the event and now completely sure after the dream that whatever I couldn't remember yesterday was indeed a very short LD where I didn't get much done.

I wake up (left side) for real and take key notes

Dream3: An elegant Asian woman talks about investment opportunities. She recommends that Western countries allocate 50 percent of FDI to China and the other 50 to Malaysia. This interview happens during some event. While this is happening I hear a piano playing. It is part of the melody from Mika's Grace Kelly. The sound is astonishing.

Fragment4: A classmate follows me around kissing me. While it feels pleasant I try to avoid him because I have a bf.

Fragment5: Me and a friend enter in a luxurious store where they sell toothpaste. It slowly changes and is now some kind of bar full of hookers.

Fragment6: I look into the nearby building and Christian Slater is there with more hookers having some night party

Fragment7: Me and bf, no comments

Recall looks good to me! Congratulations on the lucid, too. I'm not sure how often you experience the void or what your current comfort level is, but it's a situation I've found myself in time and again when practicing lucid dreaming. But the big thing I've learned over time is that the void is actually a great place to work from.

I used to feel scared and stuck in the void but once you lock in a dream body, there are tons of ways out. You have a lot of flexibility and a chance at a really smooth teleportation. DCs also tend to be very reliable about pulling you out of there into a new scene if you expect them to. It really is a pretty awesome place and once you're comfortable there, you'll probably start to welcome it.

By the way, where'd you pick up those peppermint oil caps? What brand did you wind up going with?

Thanks! Come to think about it, most of my void experiences have been this year. After the ld ends I would usually just wake up. Now that I have heard about DEILD I am super watchful and even keep my eyes closed without any volition on my part. But I still need to learn how to deal with it. Unfortunately I do become a bit of a retard when I end up there. Maybe I am just falling asleep deeper, so I can't seem to think straight or remember what to do.

What are your best how-to-get-out-of-the-void tips?

My biggest tip for the void is to think of it as nothing more than a transition scene, because once you put in enough time with it, that's exactly what it'll be. It's almost like a free teleport and/or DC conjure. This was one of the most liberating realizations I've ever had with LD because I used to think of the void as the beginning of the end. These days I more compare it to "the Construct" from the Matrix, if I may be so dorky.

The next tip is to start rubbing your hands together and probing your dream body. Maintain that self-awareness and stimulate your sense of touch so that you'll stay in the dream. Once you are bolted in, you get to start building the new scene that you want.

For teleports, I like to imagine that I'm touching some part of the desired scene. Let's say, sand. Once I can feel my hand rubbing through sand, I imagine myself looking very close-up at my hand rubbing in the sand. Once I can see that, I keep watching the close-up scene while imagining in detail the rest of where I want to be. This was how I got to the Colosseum: The Sands of the Colosseum - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views I've found that this is a nice recipe for filling in the blank canvas with whatever I want.

Another great device is sticking my hand out and expecting that a DC will grab my hand and "pull me out" of the void. I've done this a bunch, even very early on. It's amazing, but they really will come get you when you expect them too. There's several of these DC rescues:
The Hall of Letters - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views (NewArtemis)
The Dream Coordinator - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views (A DC I'd formed a bond with in the non-lucid portion of the dream)
Alone in the Dark - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views (Julia Roberts, of all utterly random people)

The last thing I like is trying some repetitive, visceral motion that reminds you of the scene you want to go to. I liked swinging a sword for getting to the Colosseum. Xanous likes bike riding, because that's something familiar to him. I did this here, for example: Gladius and Darkness - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

Okay, that was probably way more than you wanted to know about the void, ha ha... the main thing is to see it for the opportunity it is and you'll come up with all kinds of ideas that probably work even better than mine!

I think I have been in 'the void' as it were quite a few times - with me it is a place of greyness/emptyness, normally associated with floating, etc.
      Does this relate?

      @NyxCC
My WBTB has gone to the more natural and my notation have gone more relaxed too.
      Congrats. on the LD BTW.

Oh man, I'm so totally jealous of your recall.

The void sounded tricksy in this one

That's exactly right. I remember in my first few LDs encountering a void that was milky gray but since then it has always felt black and empty. Sometimes there is a sense of weightlessness or being disembodied, but it seems that once I start poking at my dream body and trying to walk, it's there. I seem to sort of get whatever I believe I ought to have, and I generally like having my dream body in place.

It's one of my favorite spots these days! Amazing transition point.

This is great advice as usual CL, thanks very much. I wonder which of the tips I will remember to use in the void next time, hope prospective memory will be more helpful. I think rubbing hands is a must and I am really interested in trying to get a DC help me out of there, so will be putting this on my getting-very-long to do list for sure. And that part about repetitive movements might work pretty well too, it seems I have some inclination towards swimming with my hands. Also, feeling the surface while doing this is also a great way I had some partial success with in the lotus pond dream. Thanks!

      @ Highlander

      Thanks Highlander!

By the way, I have two? void memories from many years ago, where the void was gray. Nowadays it is black. I also sleep with a T on my head so that could possibly influence the amount of darkness I perceive in void/dreams?

@ Penny Thanks Penny! It has been really hard to get to those dream memories recently.

Thanks for that, plus your tips - I will try to be a bit more proactive and enjoy/work with the void, rather than against it as it were.

      @ NyxCC
The void type experience is I think quite common with me. It is really amazing when you get the floating. If you get the inertia, then it's an experience in itself, LD aside.

Yes I cover my eyes too post-WBTB, and it helps enormously with sleeping, etc. It is a good tip that you state because ambient daylight early morning can cause problems.
