    1. Epic Adventure Dreams with some Lucidity: Spike/LOTR/Whales

      by , 06-08-2015 at 03:08 PM
I had a moment of lucidity this morning. I did a WBTB and then got to sleep in.

I found myself walking through an underground cave system. I was with Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. We had gone back 50 years in time so he could fight this guy and hopefully receive information that would really help us in our very complicated situation.

At some point I thought "Hmm. What are the chances that I am actually hiking in a cave right now? This is a seriously cool place. There is probably more of a chance that I'm dreaming right now than in this cave." I had really mixed feelings about it. I wanted to have a lucid dream. But I didn't want to abandon this epic quest I was on.

I concentrated and started to float. Yep. Dream.

But my next thought was that this ability would come in super handy for the fight Spike and I were about to face.

In the end I lost lucidity while keeping my flying ability. The story line of this dream was too good to let go.

Earlier in the night I had another cool dream where I found a golden ring with the power to make me invisible. I also could fly. Everyone was chasing me. I had a hard time getting away even with flight and invisibility. Too many low ceilings. At some point in the dream I turned into a hobbit. I remember someone grabbing my hairy feet and knowing that was going to give away my identity. At some point Gandalf was in the dream too and the story in became complex.

I had another dream where I was whale watching on this small boat and there were whales and dolphins all aound us very close. I was always just a little too slow with my camera to get a good picture.

It's great to be able to sleep in sometimes. My dreams are always so much better when I do.
    2. An Expected Journey

      by , 08-28-2014 at 08:29 PM
      Type: Paranoia/Evasion
Perspective: Mixed (initially Self, transforming to Character, male hobbit)

NLD: The dream began with a long complicated plot set in a futuristic world. The antagonist was trying to find me and some other people; I had the codes to some device of his that would frustrate his plans. At this point my dream character was still me, I know this because enemy agents were using my name and even showing around a picture of me. (The prevalence of this "paranoia/conspiracy" theme in dreams is one of the reasons I suspect—pure speculation—that schizophrenia in waking life is a condition related to dreaming.)

Enemy forces had located us, were closing in, we knew we had to run. We decided to split into two groups that would flee separately. I was with a group that was going to go on a very long journey. There was no perceptible shift in the dream or narrative, but by the end of the dream this was all entirely a group of male hobbits, and I, going with them, was also a male hobbit. There was no precise "moment" when the shift took place though, the dream narrative was continuous, and the transformation imperceptible: I was still "me' before the start of the journey then woke up remembering that I was one of the hobbits.

I had anticipated that we would need to flee and already packed a backpack, so while the two group leaders were waiting for the rest of us to prep and join them, I went and grabbed it. I checked inside first to make sure I had the right bag. I saw lots of warm clothes—that was good, I'm always inclined to get cold. I grabbed a few more things from my pile: a fleece jacket, a wide-brimmed hat. I was already wearing a leather pouch around my neck with my ring in it. When I had noticed this earlier I had wondered why my ring was in the bag instead of on my finger; I assumed I had to hide it for some reason. (Source: the dream played out with an increasing LOTR theme, so this could be a nod to the way Frodo carries the One Ring; it could also be day residue, as the other day I had taken off my ring for a long time for some task.)

On the table with the gear I was choosing from was a sort of talisman made of a round disk of leather, as well as a few masks which I grabbed at the last minute—they weighed almost nothing and might come in handy. I considered the options: should I put on a mask before we left? If I needed to conceal my identity from those who would recognize me it could be useful, but if we were trying to pass incognito among people who wouldn't already recognize me, wearing a mask might draw too much attention and be a disadvantage. But better to have the option than not.

I was the third one to gather around the group leader, a male hobbit, and we were waiting on about three others. While we were waiting I went through the masks I had grabbed at the last minute to make a more careful selection, trying them on in a mirror. A couple were cheap plastic full-face masks, and I wasn't sure if they would stand up to the rigors of travel, so I set them aside. I kept one, though, because it gave me a scary monster face and I thought it might be handy if we needed to play a trick and scare someone. I kept a plain black eye mask and another one that was just a single sheet of light brown translucent plastic—it weighed nothing and could serve as sunglasses, I figured. For now, I decided to wear the simple black eye mask. When I put it on, I noticed that I was strapping it over the glasses I was wearing: they had huge round lenses. I didn't remember owning glasses like this, but that was just one of many, many clues that should have alerted me to the fact that I was dreaming—I had not an inkling of it.

When our full group had assembled, the leader then instructed us to get rid of a lot of stuff that he figured we had probably packed. He had a list of very specific things we were supposed to give up, unnecessary objects that he said were a result of "emotional packing." Already on the table were a lot of little boxed games, like dice and tile games (source: Scrabble on Colbert last night). I worried that our long journey would get dull and depressing if we didn't even have a few games with us, but I understood his reasoning—we needed our packs to be as light as possible if we were to outrun our pursuers—so I reluctantly gave up some things as well.

There was one item that I wasn't sure about, so I went to consult the leader. It was a boxed set (I hadn't opened it yet) containing a special kind of saw blade that could function as a lathe, cutting wood into round or shaped dowels. The leader and I opened the box and inspected it. I felt a tool like this might be useful at some point, though I couldn't think of a precise situation in which I would need to lathe a dowel to survive. The only problem was that the tool was made out of solid metal, a complex shaped piece about eight by eight inches, and it was extremely heavy. "It's about as heavy as a two-liter bottle of water," I estimated aloud. This decided it: the leader reasoned that water was more essential, so if the tool cut down on the amount we could carry, it would have to go. I reluctantly left it behind. Later as we began our journey, I thought back and regretted this: I realized that dowel-shaped wood might be very useful in making traps, and moreover that even if we had only brought the tool with us to sell, we could probably get up to 50,000gp for it, because it was an object from our futuristic world that would be completely unique in the fantasy world where we were going.

I realized that we were pushing the limits of the time we had left and needed to leave right away. But as the leader and I stepped out from the room where we'd consulted about the saw blade, something caught my eye. It was a tiny fluffy grey kitten sleeping cozily on its back, lying in the hallway against to the wall on our right. "Wait—just two seconds," I said to the leader, "Look!" And we knelt down and tousled the kitten's belly. I explained, "It reminds me of something Sam said: this is what we're fighting for." I was remembering the line late in LOTR where Frodo is losing heart and Sam reminds him "That there's some good in this world... and it's worth fighting for." Naturally my version involved kittens.

We then rejoin the rest of our group—which was more diverse in the beginning but by this point consisted of the full set of LOTR hobbits plus me as a random male one—and started down a lane. No sooner had we set out then I look behind us and see a group of fierce orcs, at least eight of them, less than fifty yards behind us and moving faster than we are, already closing in. Did we waste too much time with our preparations, losing our head start? I needed to act now, or our journey would be cut off before it began. Fortunately I recalled that I knew Ars Magica magic (all that practice in LDs paying off!)

Twisting to look back while still running at full tilt, I held out my hand and blasted a frost effect at the group of orcs: it created a slippery ice slick on the ground where they were running and also iced their bodies directly, covering them with a pale layer of frost and slowing them considerably. I knew it wouldn't last forever so I was already trying to decide what my next trick should be. A grease trap on the ground might be useful: the lane was narrow and walled on both sides, so they wouldn't be able to bypass it. Then I was trying to remember the mechanics of Ars Magica spells: were they limited by a specific pre-set quantity (like in D&D) or could they be chosen freely but the rate was restricted by a mana pool, or could they cast at will but it was just really hard to succeed at the roll? Around this time the dream must have despaired of my ability to transform even a thrilling adventure chase scene into tedious decision-making and option-weighing, and I woke up.

      NON-DREAM DREAM LUCID

I am at a LARP festival with one of my friends. We sit in a big room with a lot of other people. It seems like we´re attending a course and/or are studying "the art of LARP".
We are waiting for the instructor to show us some moves. I get bored and grab a real sword. A big fight follows in which I actually fight with some of the other students.
I get really hungry and the bell dismisses us. We grab a lot of sandwiches and leave the lunch cafeteria. We go to the bathroom and pass another classroom. There is a theory lessons going on and I think how much patience it would take to just learn fighting by theory and not the fun way and admire their dedication.
After I am done with my "business" I leave the weird looking bathroom. I find myself in a big hall. Infront of me I see some tables with weapons neatly and evenly spread across. On my right I see some man-high quivers also filled with weapons. I take one elvish looking sword and swing it. It almost looks exactly like this one...

What if This All is a Dream And Where All in it Together-elvlord.jpg

I have a lot of fun doing that and keep on slicing the air for a while. I really feel the leather-grip in my hand.
I find out theres a second sword and they´re meant to be fought with together.
My friend warns me that those belong to somebody, a big looking guy comes and tells us we should feel free to try everything we want. I find another weird looking weapon on the table and swing it, but it bends like it is made out of plastic.
We go back to class and I take the elvish sword with me...

    4. Two interesting dreams(Golum and H.)

      by , 10-09-2013 at 04:33 PM
I had two dream entries. First dream I had yesterday and the second one is from today.

      08. 10. 2013. -> Golum

In this dream, I am at home with my mother and my friends. In this dream, one of my friends is Golum from the LOTR and at the beginning of the dream I see him killing one other friend of mine with his claws. Others are unaware of this and I fear that he will kill us while we are asleep. I try to warn my mother, but it turns out that while I was talking to her he was in the bathroom(its near) hearing everything I said. I was unaware of that until he walked out of the bathroom, pretending that everything is fine. Now I am terrified and Im sure that he'll try to kill us while we're sleeping. Next scene, Im lying in a bed, trying to stay awake. I feel him getting more near, but I am afraid to look back and Im hoping that its just my imagination. It wasnt. He catches my leg(this part was super-intense) with his hands and I wake up in panic.

Meaning: I put Thurisaz rune under my pillow in order to dream about that Rune. Considering that Thurisaz can represent demonic forces - I got exactly what I wanted.

      09. 10. 2013. -> I leave the bed.

I dreamed of H. last night. We were lying in bed and making out, but it was kind of uncomfortable. Like she wanted to be with me only if I specifically conform with her vision of me. I was being judged for every move I make and as the making out got more intense and more passionate, I suddenly decided to leave. I simply walked out of bed and left, leaving her confused. In the later part of the dream, I text'd her using mobile phone, saying that we need to talk. She didnt answer and that didnt suprise me. In the dream, I was very disappointed with her behavior and thinking.

Meaning: Met her the other day. This dream is a perfect representation about how I feel about us. It would be great if she'd just stop overanallyzing things..
    5. Auction house gold collecting dream fragment

      by , 04-28-2013 at 12:10 PM
I was in some sort of Auction House without a lot of game type characters bidding for items up the top of the room, where Gandalf from LOTR was selling them off. The whole floor was covered in fragments of gold that looked slightly like sweet-corn, and smaller fragments around those, I was picking them up with my teeth, And the more gold I ate the more I had to spend. There was some sort of God/entity's. One was "The perfect one", who was like genius and could calculate impossible geometry in his mind. There was another, I can't recall it's name, but I remember being angry towards it because it was so greedy, I want to say it's name was Greed but I'm not sure if it was. There was this amazing staff of something or other that Gandalf was selling at one point and I was trying to scrape up enough Gold from the ground of the Auction area to buy it, one man bidded 900 gold, which wasn't much at all, and I remember being angry because I couldn't beat his stupidly low bid. That's all I could recall.

    6. I Am Hobbit

by , 02-20-2013 at 05:19 AM (Xanous' Dream Journal)
I am wondering around a subterranean cavern full of dwarfish folk. I have some sort of ring on my left hand. I looks like a glowing amber stone with silver twig designs woven over it. I am looking for something and the ring glows bright when I get close. I examine the ring closely and it seems that the more I look at it the more the amber cracks and falls away. I take the ring to Elrond who is nearby and he refashions it into a mounted stone on a silver band. I question him and comment how ugly it now looks. He tells me that this is the more modern fashion. I accept that as satisfactory though I really liked the look of the other one. (I'll have to draw it up soon)

Before too long I notice I have wondered outside and it had grown dark. Wargs come out of the darkness and attack me. I switch to a third person view like I am playing a video game. I am pushing the green A button on the XBOX controller but I also feel as is I am the character in the game. I see a hobbit version of myself jumping and scrabbling and running to avoid the wargs. It is no use I become over ran and everything goes black.

I wake near a camp fire with a minor injury to my chest and shoulder. Apparently Legolas and Gimli rescued me after I passed out. Legolas tells me there is food. I see a string of several large trout like fish on some rocks. I begin to prepare the fish near the camp fire but the fire keeps going out and relighting itself. Every time it goes large evil looking hairless bears come out of the darkness to eat me. But just as I am about to get it the fire relights and the bears vanish. Unfortunately I end up knocking over a pot of water on the fire and it goes out for good.

Just when I think I am done. I see a bright flash of light. It is Gandolf and his staff. He came just at the right time. I try to make my way too him but all I see is a bright light like a huge spot light pointed straight at me. It is blinding. Then, I see a second. I pause at the strangeness of this. It looks like twin suns and I am reminded of something. I think it's dream sign but it doesn't register what that means. I am too frightened to care and only want to get to safety. This time the light engulfs me.

I look away from the light and find myself at work. My boss has been kidnapped. I and several co-workers go look around for clues. I see a strange metal hand print device on her desk. I push on it and the wall spins around to reveal a hidden room. All we can find is booze and food and candy. I say, "Considering what has happened; I think we can over look this." I wanted to keep it quiet but I excitedly tell E all about it.

Then I hear a loud computer voice say my real life email address and "recover fail". I think someone is hacking into my computer so I rush over to an area with desks and computers.

I see JG and DL playing a prank on someone's computer. I think it is mine but I just watch and see what they are doing. They have a bag of commonly used keyboard keys that they popped off the keyboard. They tape the bag to the back of the monitor. They look at each other and laugh. I think they are idiots. Then the take fists full of hair and tape it the desk. I try to think of a way to get into their office and get them back. I know it will be tough and I feel clueless.

But no. I realize it is "Fat Amy's" (From Pitch Perfect) desk. She is sitting right there letting them do it. Then, for some reason, I tell her, "I think JG wants to give you a blow job." She tells me, "He can't. I'm too tough."

      I wake up.

I recalled 2 other dreams and 2 fragment as well but this was be best one. I freaking love LOTR!

      Cross-Dressing

A guest on a talk show demonstrates his attempt to dress like a woman. Then there's a video clip showing him in the outfit that the show's hosts create in order to teach him how to do it better. The outfit is red and black with bows in various places. I'm impressed. It makes a distinct statement while also seeming to suit the man quite well.

      Group Project

We're working on our project (which is due soon) when suddenly we get assigned a new group member. That's really unfair. We have to add a new section on "Charm" (as in charisma) in order for there to be enough substance in the presentation to accommodate a new member. The rest of the group votes that I should work on this section, and it's clear that they mean this to be derogatory (by implying that my personality needs a lot of work). We sit in hostile silence for a few minutes. I decide to give them the silent treatment and work on my own for the rest of the project.

      Saruman

I'm working with some friends on a level in a game. In a room near my character, a wizard starts leading a ritual which we cannot allow to be completed. We try to run amid the gathered orcs and kill things, but there are just so many of them! I score a lot of hits, but I can't see the health bars, so I don't know how much more work will be required. And I'm not focusing on just one target at a time, either: I'm just running in circles and loops, slashing at everything that I pass. I pass the wizard and take a swipe at him, but then I get a better look at his face. It's Saruman. I feel scared, now--I'm not prepared to face him.

      Slightly Daring

I'm sitting in someone's lap. Feeling a bit daring, I squirm around a bit, ostensibly in order to get more comfortable.

      Climbing

It's the beginning of the last level of a game. I have to climb up a rocky slope on a mountainside.

    9. Following the LOTR Fellowship

by , 07-14-2007 at 05:00 AM (Visions in the Dark)
This dream takes place in was a normal looking town except that there are no people around and the sky is perpetually overcast. There was a lake or river or something that the town was situated on and the water was always choppy and murky. I appeared as my dream incarnate Kalima and was wearing a lavender coloured dress, a grey hooded cloak, and had red hair.

I was travelling with Gandalf the White, Legolas, Frodo and old Bilbo Baggins, and two other figures whom I can no longer remember. We were trying to make our way through the abandoned town but it was very dangerous because there were orcs and an assortment of other monsters roaming around. According to Gandalf the White, we were looking for some sort of portal that would take them back to Valinor.

I had a bit of magic, but the world we were in didn't follow the "standard" metaphysical rules and whenever Gandalf or I tried to cast a spell, the results would not be as expected. Eventually the group had to rely on brute strength to fight the monsters we came across, which left me at a major disadvantage because I had neither the physical strength nor a weapon to defend myself with.

The group and I went down one tree lined road and came across yet another group of monsters. During the fight, I hung back and hid between some houses while the men fought. I don't remember seeing exactly what happened, but at some point Legolas' bow broke and he abandoned it. I lagged behind the group and picked up the bow. I scratched some runes into bow and it became a lightning whip. I caught up to the group as they encountered yet another group of monsters in a park filled with willow trees. When I used the whip, it cracked like thunder and scared the monsters away.

The men went on their way without even looking at me and I did not follow this time. I wandered into a small, white house and found a group of children huddling in the basement. This surprised me because I thought that the town had been abandoned. The kids said that they were hidding from the lightning and thunder and I tried to explain that it was only my magical whip.

I cannot remember how they responded because I woke up.
