    1. Lucid Dream 16

Date: January 9, 2013 ||| Time Block: 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM ||| Length: 10 minutes. ||| Lucidity: level 3/2. ||| Entry Type: DILD ||| Major Methods: WBTB

Methods: woke up at 9 or so; went to the bathroom; was resting in bed just thinking about random things, although also with the suspicion that I might have a lucid dream.

      Account:
I had another lucid dream this morning by accident. I had just been up for a minute or two, to go to the bathroom, before going back to bed to complete my sleep. (I had stayed up late on an assignment the night before)

I can't remember earlier than this point, but I was standing in the forest of the woods of our house in Superior, and I knew at that moment I was dreaming. I walked out with Monica into our backyard, and stood there, so happy to see our land again. I saw the young pine tree, and the garden, and the bonfire pile, and the unused railroad ties, and the long uncut grass, and the forest behind it all with Aspen and Pine trees, and the rope swing on which we used to play. I was pretty happy, and as I looked around I saw a black bear! Knowing myself to be dreaming, I thought I might as well do an experiment. I walked right up to the bear, and encouraged it to bite me by putting my hand up right in front of its mouth. To my mild surprise, it did nothing, and remained sitting on the railroad ties just watching me. I thought that was rather nice. As I stood there, I realized that my vision was a bit fuzzy. I performed some stabilization techniques, and they helped a little, but not much. I let that rest, and turned back my attention to the bear. And it started speaking, and asked me to bring it to the rope swing. I thought I might as well, so I picked him up and starting bringing him over. As I did so, I felt as my vision degraded even further. At some point, it was gone entirely. With only my sense of touch left, I struggled but managed to get the bear on the swing, and then immediately dropped to the ground, and began feeling myself and my surroundings, in an attempt to recover my vision and anchor myself into the dream. It worked for a few seconds, but eventually I woke up.

I opened my eyes, and my sister Chrissy was lying in a bed to the left of mine. She started to talk to me about something, and was very distracting. I said, "Hold on, I need to make sure I'm awake first." She paused, and I plugged my nose. And I could still breath. My goodness, that's an odd feeling! Widening my eyes, I stood up and announced that I was dreaming. My sister seemed mildly pleased, saying something like, "Oh, that's nice!". I walked out of the room, and explained the same thing to my siblings. They were mildly pleased as well. I walked down the stairs, and did stuff that I can't remember anymore.

And then I woke up. And I was lying in bed. And I plugged my nose again. And I could still breath! My goodness, a lot of false awakenings lately. Anyway, I tried to get up, but unfortunately I couldn't move. "Oh man, sleep paralysis again!", I thought to myself. I tried moving my arms and legs, alternating them, and trying surges of force, but they all didn't work and I remained in bed. Remembering the notes on sleep paralysis, I tried the next time to start rolling, off the side of my bed. For a split second it seemed to work, regardless of my sleep paralysis I was making it towards the edge. But then I re-realized I was still in sleep paralysis, and my movement stopped. *sigh* Ruined, again, by my negative expectations. Knowing that I couldn't move, I began to try plugging my nose again. And what's very strange is that I felt two bodies. I could totally feel the body that was stuck in bed, motionless, but simultaneously, I could feel the arms and hands of an, almost imaginary body, which I was using to plug my nose. Anyway, I moved this imaginary hand, by will power, up to my nose, and plugged it completely. My body had the feeling of oddness to it, that I felt earlier, and I knew that it was working successfully (it was making the dream more vivid, and thus, I was beginning to be able to move again). The problem's that I woke myself up. And this time for real. Oh well, it was pretty neat anyway to see our backyard again, and it was kind of cool to talk to the bear. Maybe next time I'll make it last longer.

    2. Lucid Dream 14

Date: December 30 ||| Time Block: 9:45 AM to 10:15 PM ||| Length: 3 minutes. ||| Lucidity: level 3. ||| Entry Type: DILD ||| Major Methods: WBTB

Methods: woke up, went to the bathroom and got a drink, was resting in bed for about an hour trying new techniques, fell back asleep.

      Account:
I was standing on the street with two of my sisters, and I knew that I was dreaming. Excited, and seeing the sunny sky above, I jumped into the air and tried to go higher. I propelled myself up within seconds, all the way up into the clouds, and was traveling through them with the wind pressing in on my face. I looked down, but was so far up that I couldn't see the ground. I awoke in my bed, and attempted to fall back asleep.

I was back in the dream within seconds, back down at the same place on the ground. I jumped back into the air and kept going, enjoying the feel of the fresh air. Entering the clouds once more, I decided to try not going so high this time. I 'released' my will to go higher, and began falling back down. I caught a glimpse of the ground before I woke back up into my bed again.

Almost laughing with happiness, I tried entering my dream once more. Within seconds of visualizing, I was standing for a third time at the same location. This time, wanting to look down at the earth without going too high into clouds, I was more careful. Willing myself to rise less quickly, I got to a point just below the clouds, and I noticed that my subconscious mind was having some trouble keeping up. (when I first made it up there, there were hardly any clouds, but additional clouds "faded in" as my brain created the rest of the scene) I looked down at the earth, but it didn't yet have any details. It was basically just a large sphere, that was colored with blue and green. I lasted for a few more seconds, cruising just below the clouds, before waking up.

Now in bed, and thinking myself to be awake, I began to play a game on the iPad, and noticed that the game had been seriously updated. An entirely 2-dimensional game had been changed into one that was 3-dimensional, and I played with it and explored for about 5 minutes. I actually got involved in the storyline within the dream, zooming in at the different locations, and noticing how the graphics and such were designed. (I noticed that the 3d characters had the right structure, but their textures were just the old 2d textures pasted on as an overlay from the viewer's perspective, for example; or that, at the outskirts of the city there were undeveloped parts, which had construction signs and things to block them off; or a large building I noticed in the north east, in which a group had gathered for an event of some kind.)

Only after all this did I wake up for real, and discover that the three times I thought I had woken up I had actually had false awakenings! I had "went back to sleep" to have lucid dreams, when all I had to do was open the window and start flying!

Date: December 28 ||| Time Block: 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM ||| Length: 5 minutes. ||| Lucidity: level 3/2. ||| Entry Type: DILD ||| Major Methods: DEILD, MILD

Methods: woke up *before* my alarm at 7, mentally prepared and then let myself fall back asleep.

      Account:
Progress! This is the first time I've been able to have a lucid dream without waking up first and then going back to bed. This is good, because so far every lucid dream has made me spend on average about an hour falling asleep, and I've wanted to gain the ability to lucid dream during the night, or at least without all the time waiting in bed.

The first thing I remember from my dream is walking up a path with my sister, in some kind of zoo or park, and then looking over the cliff towards the right, down at a beautiful snowy field. It was so crystal clear and beautiful, that even in my dream I was commenting on its beauty. Monica asked me if I would really just sit there looking at it, and I replied, "something, something, I would literally keep viewing this scene for hours". I'm not sure if I knew I was dreaming at this point, I remember I went in and out so it's hard to tell. I think I was because of how clear it was, and because I was commenting on the "scene" as if I knew it was part of a dream.

Anyway, we continued our walk up the path, and we came to a place between the cliff, a river, and a zoo/park enclosure. Knowing our family to be towards the left, we passed through the river, and walked over through a wading pool area over to under an oak tree, where the rest of our family was. Monica and I wanted to go back to the main river, to go in it or something, so we asked Mom and we started back over to where we were before. Once we got there, I remember looking up river, and seeing a large influx of water, and with it an increased danger. Knowing it would be to unsafe to go down the river at this point, I went back into the branched off area, where my family was, and started walking towards them in the shallows. As I was doing so, Mom was warning me about the flooding, but I replied with something about how the water here was safe. A moment or so after saying this, a surge of water came up behind me, and turned me over on my back, and I started drifting towards the (precariously placed) waterfall a few yards down.

Mom began yelling in fear, something like, "I told you not to let yourself fall". Seeing that there had been placed a metal guard rail around the drop off, I desperately tried to grab onto it as I fell. I managed to grab onto a horizontal portion of it, and I thought I was doing well. The water was spraying very hard in my face, but I was able to breath anyway. But then it suddenly broke, and I was left hanging onto the vertical bar, which I began to slip down on due to the pouring water. As I went down, I heard the voice of a narrator, turning my fall into the end of some kind of movie. On reaching the bottom, I am not too certain what went on (I think I lost lucidity).

The next thing I remember, I think a few seconds later actually, I went back up the waterfall to the right, (the one from the main river), and starting walking up through it to the wading pool area. On reaching the area I was before, I sort of became third person, with a different body, and began watching myself. The person who was now in the river was a statue-like Greek figure, as if from one of the Greek myths. He was making grunting sounds, and seemed to be struggling, like moving his arm forward, but then back again. I wondered what was wrong and knew somehow/intuitively that he was having a decision struggle, or duality, where he couldn't decide to move either way.

Looking up further on, I remember seeing a more darkly colored statue, Greek styled, with a spear of some sort that was moving. And on from there, two marble heads on either side of the waterfall area, which were also alive. There was something I wanted to do or get or see. I went over to the right, towards where I knew there was someone who might be able to help. Coming up to his enclosed research center, I looked in the circular, thick glass windows on the air-tight entry and saw him working away at his projects. I could also tell that he was somewhat malevolent. He apparently knew that I was watching him, because he came outside and asked what I wanted. I responded, but he quickly went back inside and left me. Looking for help elsewhere, I wandered over to the right where I met with a much kinder man, around the age of 20 or so. He agreed to help me with whatever I was doing, so I led him inside the large complex. Passing through the doors of one store into another, we entered a gaming arcade area. Looking behind me for the man, I saw that he'd preoccupied himself with a game, and I sighed as I saw him grab the game's gun and start playing.

Looking over to the left a bit, near the doorway, I saw Arthur, who was talking to his Mom about something. I was again inspired and amazed by how realistic people in lucid dreams both appear and behave. He was as living as he is in real life. Walking up, I was about to start talking to him, when I realized I should probably stabilize first. Staring at my hand intently, I noticed the scene become more bright and clear. Starting to speak, I suddenly realized that I'd missed an important point, of not only stabilizing my vision but also my place in the world, by touching things in the dream and keeping my body from feeling the bed. Kicking myself, (not literally), my vision began to fade, and I began to feel my in-bed body. I then woke up entirely. I did a reality check just to make sure that it was not a false awakening, and then attempted to fall back asleep.

I actually succeeded, and woke about a half hour later, with further dreams. Unfortunately, in the time it took for me to get out of bed and write up to this point, I've forgotten everything that went on in it. But at least I remembered this first part, and was able to lucid dream without the need of WBTB/wake-back-to-bed/getting up for a while and then waiting in bed to fall back asleep.

    4. Lucid Dream 11

Date: December 27 ||| Time Block: 9:00 AM to 11:30 PM ||| Length: 3 minutes. ||| Lucidity: level 2. ||| Entry Type: DILD ||| Major Methods: WBTB, MILD

Methods: woke up by alarm at 8, fell back asleep till I woke up automatically at 9, went to the bathroom and got a drink of water, got back in bed, rested on my back for about an hour repeating the "and now and then" phrase, gave up on that and rested on my stomach, not using any methods except keeping in mind to, when in a lucid, "think, feel, hear, see", to stabilize my dream from the start.

Summary: was in a regular dream, but then looked to the right at a fence with vines on it; was wanting very intently for a ladybug to appear where I was staring (I was testing something); it didn't, so I let my gaze just wander, but froze when I saw a ladybug a few feet away on a flower. Knowing intuitively that it was my thought that caused it to come, I was thinking of other things to will into existence, and the thought of bees passed my mind; I figured that might get dangerous, though, so I decided not to, but just then a lone bee flew past me; excited, I did the same thing with an apple on a tree nearby; and, suddenly, I realized that I must be dreaming, and became lucid; quickly trying to remember by catch phrase, I fumbled for a second or two, and then started with step 1, which was the "think" part; this meant to repeat the "and now and then" phrase to increase my lucidity, and when I did so, I remember the scene becoming much clearer, and the dream stabilizing; I then saw a wild boar a few feet in front of me, and hurriedly jumped into the air and began to fly in an attempt to escape it; I had a few more seconds of dreaming, before I woke up, being chased by it even in the air; I woke up, did a quick reality check just to make sure I was awake, and then went downstairs rather quickly; but on reaching the bottom floor, I realized that I'd just zipped down the stairs in less than a second, and it struck me that I must still be dreaming; I became lucid for about 1 second, before waking up yet again; this time, knowing that my test just a half minute earlier had failed, I twisted my pointer finger over my middle finger on *both* of my hands, forcefully, and to my further surprise, I discovered I was yet again still in a dream; to my disappointment, I woke up a few seconds later, and this time finally genuinely.

Methods: woke up, watched Davey downstairs for about an hour while on the iPad, got back in bed, was resting on my back while repeating the "Am I aware? Am I awake?" phrase.

Summary: was in a regular dream, but then became lucid for short time, out of the blue it seemed; checked if I could see my nose with one eye closed, (as this is one of the reality checks), and I could (i.e. the reality check didn't work); woke up after a few seconds, before I was able to really do anything.

Methods: woke up, watched Davey in bed for about two hours while on the iPad, got back in bed, was resting in different positions while thinking of LD memory and trying various methods lightly.

Summary: was in a regular dream, but then became lucid for short time when noticing oddities; felt as though still lying in bed, but heard music very realistically and loudly, corresponding to actual songs; was controlling the music, playing notes just by willing them to be played; felt some anxiety when I couldn't move my body, and imagined there being somebody who could potentially come into my room; also, was not getting enough air because my mouth was pressed up by the pillow, yet I couldn't control my breathing rate to make up for it.

Methods: woke up, went on the computer for about two hours, got back in bed, was resting on my back while thinking of LD memory and methods and visualizing things lightly.

      Account:
I was lying on my back, and had been unsuccessful in falling asleep for a long time. (mostly because I was trying a new method, which involved lots of visualization)

After a period of unconsciousness, I remember regaining my awareness, and then hearing a very loud and peculiar engine sound, like that of an airplane. As I listened to it intently and tried to remember it, I became more awake and I heard the sound fading into the real sounds of the fan and cars outside. I know it wasn't real because of its oddness, its loudness, and its fading away so quickly.

A little disappointed that it ended so quickly, I tried to rest my mind again and fall back asleep. The next thing I remember was hearing the notes of a piano, from pieces that I've heard in real life. I think it was actually one of the songs in my playlist, when I first noticed it. Then the music changed, (I think I was actually controlling it to some extent), but it wasn't getting replayed quite right. It then switched to a third song, which I remember specifically (Spanish Caravan by George Winston). Here, I listened very carefully to the notes, comparing it to what I remembered/the actual notes that I was conceptualizing alongside what I was "hearing". I remember noticing that the notes were somewhat sloppy, and that instead of having frequent ups and down, it sort of smoothed them out, and turned the part I heard into a more uniform downward scale.

What I was hearing then changed to a song with vocals. I remember hearing the vocals in my head, as if from headphones or something, and I realized this would be a good time to try to get these sounds to change into a full-fledged dream. Concentrating all of my mind on the vocals, I heard their intensity rise and fall, and after a few seconds they surged louder and I felt myself being drawn into an actual dream, as the vocals became more real-sounding and it sounded like a person was actually singing to the right of me. Trying to get into it, I wasn't quite able to, and I was disappointed when the noises settled down and it was quiet again.

Getting up, disappointed, I went back onto my computer. Opening up Firefox, I continued reading through the pages I had open. I don't remember exactly what I was reading, but I know that at least one tab involved lucid dreaming, and another involved cooking items such as pots, in a list with pictures. Standing up, and looking ahead at the wall, I suddenly had the idea to do a reality check (I think I may have noticed something fishy). I tried bending my middle finger over my pointer finger, and the moment I did so, I knew I was in a dream, because it felt very strange and it didn't go over completely. Thinking to myself something very much along the lines of, "Oh my goodness, this is still a dream!", I suddenly noticed the absurdities in the scene before me. My bedroom door was stretched out behind the table in front of me, and a second table was stretched out to the right of me.

A little bewildered by the doorway's odd orientation, I switched between looking with my left and right eye, and as I did so, it switched between two orientations, as some kind of overlay on the wall. Not sure if trying to go through it would work, I starting turning to my right, but as I did, I remembered that I should try stabilizing my dream ahead of time, to keep myself from waking up. Remembering that people mentioned it can help to hold one arm with the opposite hand, I moved my left hand and pressed it against my right upper arm. Feeling that my t-shirt was blocking it, I tried putting my hand into the arm of my shirt, but I was struggling because it was sticking to my arm somewhat. I got it in after a few seconds, and I felt as it made my arm cold. I continued turning to the right, but to my dismay, my vision was beginning to fade, and my movement was slowing. Racing to keep myself in it, regardless I wasn't fast enough, and I awoke to the sounds of the fan and the cars. But my fingers still felt as though they overlapped, so I moved them apart, (and did one more reality check), and finally went downstairs and gave up.

Date: November 17 ||| Time Block: 10:15 AM to 10:50 AM ||| Length: 5 minutes. ||| Lucidity: level 3. ||| Entry Type: DILD ||| Major Methods: WBTB, MILD

Methods: woke up, went downstairs for about two hours, got back in bed, was simply resting on my left side.

      Account:
I had another lucid dream this morning, this time accidentally. I had been downstairs for about two hours, playing Settlers of Catan and watching Davey, and I came back up to take a nap. I considered trying to have a lucid dream, but I decided not to, since I was going to be studying afterwards and I wanted to get enough rest. So I lay down, on my left side, and just let my mind wander like I normally do.

At some point within the next 35 minutes, I found myself playing a game on the iPad (Graal Era), and thinking I was awake, or at least not realizing I was dreaming. But then I noticed I could hear a rustling sound from the speakers. And then, faint voices. So I figured it must be an in-game chat system, like some of the other multiplayer games have. I wanted to turn it off, though, so I tried using the iPad's volume buttons. They didn't work, but I remembered I had Guided Access on, so I tried turning it off. I triple-clicked the home button, but, as in real life sometimes, it didn't respond. So I held down the Power and Home buttons, to reset the device and get it working again. And that's when I noticed I was bending it, and realized that I must be in a dream!

At first it was a bit overwhelming, because at that moment the world seemed so real, as real as it does right now. I was very excited; so much so that my vision faded out, and all I could see was grey! Frantically trying to get back into it, I starting rubbing my hand together, and I felt as they tingled and sensed each others' warmth. Having stabilized my dream somewhat, I tried to visualize myself back into a scene, and I remember seeing, as I did this, something like a path in front of me, that was made up of alternating formations of grey lights. I don't remember actually seeing the room as it appeared, but I got back into it somehow. I then started walking, almost running, out of my bedroom, thinking of what I could do next. But then, as I neared the door, I noticed a mirror to my right on the wall.

Now this was very cool, since I don't remember ever seeing a mirror in my dreams before, and I wanted to see if I would have the same general experiences with it as other lucid dreamers have had. At first, I stood in front of it and tried to see myself, but my head in the mirror kept glitching back to the bottom, so that all I could see was my hair! It was like this for a few seconds, but I finally forced my face to appear, and began to look at it very closely. The first thing I noticed was that my face was a little obscure, i.e. bent at a strange angle. I tried to make the image more clear by moving my head, but my face in the mirror only matched my movements partially, and as I continued to watch it, it slowly morphed. I could start to see my teeth, and my mouth kept getting larger, to the point where it made up a third of my whole face. It looked very much like one that's been distorted in an image editor.

I tried looking at my eyes more closely, and they definitely had that look of aliveness to them. I could see my eyebrows and the muscles of my face, and I remember thinking to myself that "it's all there", in that they seemed to match up with how I tried moving them. I could see, for example, the tenseness of my lower eyelid correspond with my sensed facial expression. My last observation before waking up was that, although I could pretty clearly see the area right around my eyes, nose, and mouth, the rest of my face was pretty lifeless, like an artificial skin wrap or something. That's the last I remember before finding myself in bed.

One funny thing about after I woke up is that even though I could feel myself in bed, it felt like I was upside down in it, with my head towards the doorway and my feet towards the window. It was strange, because I felt myself to be in one direction, but I knew that I was in another. This has happened a few times before when I've been resting, but it's neat that it can also come from lucid dreaming.

Methods: woke up, went downstairs for about 45 minutes, got back in bed, "Am I conscious?" technique (lightly), perhaps others.

Summary: flew freely, high into the sunny sky, up to a skyscraper; noticed a social aspect for the first time (when staring at people); biked down a road in the dark, with the scene pretty realistic; set up tents in a camp, and felt the cold air, and had to walk down the path to another building, as it was getting dark; looked up at the building towering above me, with the sun glistening off its sides, and jumped into the air to take flight, going all the way up to it, and breaking through its walls like one with the powers of a superhero.

Date(date of when I woke up): August 20 ||| Time Block(checked or estimated start and end times of rest period in which it occurred): ? to ? ||| Length(estimated length of time that I was lucid): 10 minutes. ||| Lucidity(how clearly I was thinking and seeing and knew myself to be dreaming): level 3. ||| Entry Type(whether I entered lucidity with renewed consciousness(DILD) or a carried over consciousness(WILD)): DILD ||| Major Methods(what caused my lucidity, either in preparation methods or active methods): WBTB, MILD

Methods: woke up, read about lucid dreaming for about 1 hour, got back in bed, "Am I conscious?" technique, phrase repetition, mental climbing of stairs.

Notes: first lucid dream; flew and hovered freely; great visual depth and shading, with wind blowing leaves of tree, at corner by the new church; had a realistic conversation with Pastor Mike (about real world topics--and remembering what we talked about, and how we concluded!); saw four real people in my dream, dressed the same way as in real life; changed scenes within my lucid dream; saved myself from waking by using the spinning technique; awesome, all around.

Clips: "And then I opened my eyes again, and, wanting to see if I was actually awake, found myself getting out of bed, somewhat naturally, and opening (the now shade-less!) window. I had moved, and opened it up, in what seemed to about 2 seconds, and was amazed as I let myself out the window and found that I was cruise-dropping. I had gained control of my dream, and I knew it 100%! Oh, what an amazing feeling it was as I rose and fell in my beautiful and free environment! […] Anyway, we got into a discussion, (my vision and such was a lot clearer here--I could see the rustling leaves above, the coolness of the environment, and a good amount of depth and shading), and continued to talk as I saw someone to my right trying to move something. It turned out to be Caleb and Drew, who were trying to get a black cabinet thing into the church van, and they were having a lot of trouble. (they kept buckling/bending the wood panels into each other, and pretty much breaking them as they tried to jam it in) […] Anyway, I had a few more seconds of lucid dreaming until I started sensing that my awareness was dropping and I was starting to wake up. I frantically tried to start spinning around, but for some reason my body wouldn't let me—it felt as though I were somewhat restrained in movement. Sadly, my vision continued to fade and I woke up a few seconds later."
