Welcome lovealynch! I love the enthusiasm! Congrats on your first intentional lucid dream!!
I woke up about an hour before my alarm goes off to get up for the day. I did some RC's, as I have been doing every time I wake up, and allowed myself to fall back asleep. While I was drifting off, I set intentions to realize I am dreaming during my dreams.
The RC's at every awakening are great for learning to eventually catch false awakenings! The intention setting is great...great job!
On a side note, I am often at their house in the dreams that I remember. I think this would be a good dream sign to keep in my head. Any time I find myself there, I should do RC's.
Sounds like an excellent dream sign! There are some tricks for working on this during the day even if you aren't at their house through visualization and "extended RC's."
I think dream sign is the correct term. I need a glossary for this stuff! I bet there is one here somewhere. If anyone knows of one please point me in that direction.
Sure: DV Dictionary - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views
Anyways, at one point in my dream I walked into the kitchen and for some reason it just hit me, "Hey I'm Dreaming!" It was very sudden and seemingly out of no where. It never occurred for me to do an RC, which is what I have been trying train my brain to do while dreaming. I just for one reason or another became aware that I was dreaming. So, I got really excited and immediately started thinking, "I don't want to lose this lucidity." Which I think is bad, because we should never focus on what we don't want, but on what we do. I am very big on positivity and never thinking in the negative.
So true! We can talk about this more, but stability is the term you are looking for...BUT, when doing day practices to remind you to stabilize, we want to try to remember to not think of it as stabilizing or to think of stability at all as that can make you worry about it or think of negatives. Just practice things that you learn help to stabilize the dream. The biggest thing for me is to remain calm, slow down and look at and touch things around you. There can be a lot more to it than that if you want, but I say try the simple approaches first.
However, I did quickly move past the negative thought of "I don't want to lose this," to "how do I keep it?" The term anchor popped into my head. I think I have read it somewhere. Something about keeping lucidity by using anchors. The problem is that that term is very vague to me, and I honestly really don't understand what it means. Therefore when it did pop in my head, I tried to make sense of it in too literal of a way, I think. I started thinking about my feet being glued to the ground, and I also kept my vision focused on the same thing. I have a feeling this is all wrong.
We often get what we think about in dreams, which can be used to our advantage as well.
I hope that someone can guide me in the right direction on these anchors. Pretty please!?
Anchors are useful for WILDs. I think Sageous' tutorial that you mentioned in your other intro discusses them.
So after few seconds of trying to "anchor" myself I woke up. But not really. I just dreamt that I woke up. I was actually still dreaming, but did not realize it. I believe this is called a false awakening. Hopefully the more I do RC's every time I awake, the better I will be at avoiding these.
Exactly, RC's at every awakening is the best way I know of to catch FA's. Another great way is (perhaps for later) to always automatically try going back into a dream (DEILD) every time you think you have awoken.
I would love to hear any advice from ya'll. Thoughts, guidance, any thing at all. Your time spent will be very much appreciated.
The questions I have:
What should I do when I realize I am dreaming?
What is an anchor LD wise? Did I make it up, or is it really a thing?
Is there a terms glossary around?
1. There are two different approaches that you may want to try. Go with your gut on which one. The first is what I mentioned above to remain calm, slow down and look at and touch things around you. The second approach is to just go right away and do whatever you want. I got this advice early on as a good way to never worry about stabilizing. But if you can do the first approach without thinking of it as stabilization or worrying, then you are golden.
Questions 2 & 3 answered further back in my response.
When I looked up this term I found a movie by this title and the translation "sweet dreams." Have you seen the movie? I haven't.
