Hello, Cushtard, and welcome to the DILD class!
You're absolutely right that excellent recall is a big boost for lucidity. It is a sign that you are very familiar with your dreams, very aware of them, that is one of the key foundations of lucid dreaming. Great dream recall is also a reward unto itself. Having long nights full of fun, weird, fascinating dream scenarios is probably the key motivator for most people to remain with the practice, I sure know that's true for me!
So for your motivation, imagine building dream recall to such a high level that you can't tell the difference much between waking and dreaming memories, your dreams can get that vivid!
Another bit of motivation: dreaming and lucid dreaming is an awesome hobby, but it takes time to build up lucidity in waking and dreaming life to sufficiently high levels to get lucid in dreams. So the more you practice, consistently, the closer you are day by day to your first (and many more) lucid dreams. If you do the daytime and night-time practices daily, you will get lucid in about a month on average. So stick with it!
Have a look through the forum threads referenced in this post. That is a launching-off point for many very important things to help you learn about lucid dreaming and how to go about doing it.
Good luck! And let us know any questions you may have.
