not enough "energy" to control my dream...

About a week ago i had a sort of WILD/DEILD experience, but when i was in the dream there was a complete absence of light, but i could see myself clearly. it was like a void where i was all that existed, but i could feel myself standing on a completely smooth surface and i could "feel" the dimensions of the black room i was in but couldn't outright percieve them. so i tried to will something into existance to give me light, and nothing happened. i "knew" i didn't have enough energy to perform any kind of lucid control and so did energy raising techniques i've learned, and i felt more energized, but still i could summon nothing in any way. then i woke up. why did i feel that i didn't have the creative "energy" to summon something and how can i give myself that energy?
