I had a very long lucid dream last night, and I wanted to share what worked for me so maybe it can work for you, too.
So, last night I became spontaneously lucid and started rushing around as usual. I remembered to slow down when I saw all the detail fade. I started describing things out loud, "green grass, gray sidewalk, dark shade, etc." The whole dream became amazingly vivid.
I just stayed where I was and did lots of telekinesis and talking to my dream characters. I practiced stabilizing the dream with verbal commands, looking at my hands, and engaging the detail of the dream (touching things, talking to DC's, doing RC's).
I think in addition to moving slowly, it really helped to treat my DC's like real people. Near the end of the dream, I was amazed at how long it was, it seemed like I was lucid in the dream for about 20 minutes! As soon as I started thinking about that, the dream faded and I had to rub my hands and spin as a last ditch attempt to keep it going. I woke up briefly, but then went right back into the dream! My first dream chain, too. I hope this helps someone else, too, I learned all these tricks on this site except treating DC's like real people.
