I wake up almost instantly...

I stumbled upon this site maybe a week or 2 ago, so I started doing dream checks and keeping a journal and all that. Surprisingly, I've now had 3 lucid dreams... I think.
They all ended very quickly, and I didn't see much detail, they seemed as hazy as any other dream. In the first one I had a false awakening and did a dream check (the pinched nose technique works quite well :D) and obviously it failed. I hardly realized I was dreaming before I woke up.
The second time I actually did something. I had some dream about someone trying to kill me, and succeeding, and I tried to avenge myself as a spirit. Out of the blue I did a check, and I think I became lucid. I don't think I was in compete control, but it was so brief I'm not sure. I decided to try to fly first - I jumped, higher and higher until I went through the ceiling. Big mistake... there was nothing past the ceiling, just nothingness, and I woke up.
The third time I don't remember the details, all I remember is I covered my nose and I could breath through one nostril (I had a cold at the time). Then I woke up.

Why do I wake up so quickly? I may have been a bit too excited in the 3rd one for a moment, but I didn't feel like that in the other dreams. Advice would be appreciated. :)

Well I think they are probably all from excitement, even if it doesn't feel so :p

I suggest you look up stabalization techniques and practice them because they don't all work for everyone :p

For example when you become lucid spin slowly where you stand, this can stabalize the dream allowing you to do more. Other techiniques I know of is rubbing your hands together, looking left and right slowly, or simply not doing anything until all is stable.

Right, stabilization is very important. What I do is focus on something, like my hand or a tree. Sometimes, that makes the dream so much more clear and vivid and last longer.

Yeah, try interacting with your environment more. Touch things, move around a lot, and look intently at everything. This can help solidify and stabilize everything.

It took me about 10 sparks of lucidity before I started to stay in the dreams man, it is only that it is a new experiance and you have to get used to it.

I was lucid for about two seconds this morning but I work up on purpose because I needed to get ready for school.

Lucky me - I had another! It lasted 10 seconds once I was lucid, but I could see the clarity! Unfortunately my brother woke me up, rubbing my hands didn't help. (weirdly, my right hand was twice as big as my left... :shock:)
But it's a start. :) I'm counting that as my first lucid.

You're on a roll :D I'm sure it will be easier to stay lucid as you get more practice.

I've been having the same problem too. When i do my WILD during a nap I usually transition in to the dream quite easily. When i enter the dream i wait until I'm completely immersed in to the dream scene. Everything in the dream is extremely vivid. So i get up from the bunk bed in the dream and start to stabilize it by touching my surroundings i turn around to go outside and see a woman looking out the window. Then the dream ends abruptly. I don't know why this happens. It's not from the excitement since i had many lucid dreams before and have learned to calm myself down in them. I only had 6 long lucid dreams out of 15 that lasted at least 4-7 mins. Does anybody have any suggestions?

I woke up very quickly in all my Lucid Dreams, and it was because of the excitement.
Especially the last time (you can read about it in my DJ) I remember I felt so excited thinking "I did it!" that the very feeling woke me up.

Stablize, do a little stuff at first Stablize again and then have fun :) At least that's my pattern. Try Spinning when your dreams about to end and telling yourself to increase dream length.
