Speech Impaired dreams

From time to time after I become lucid, I'am unable to speak or its hard to talk. It almost feels like I lost my voice or something, and I have to learn how to use my vocal chords again. This doesn't happen everytime but I find it kind of interesting why this happens.

I used to sing alot in my dreams, and I never could hear my self very good, or my voice wouldn't sound normal, I also talked to my self alot outloud. I never can hear very good, once I had a dream that was so silent it scared me. perhaps it's hard to take in all those sensations at once?

Maybe the fact that your mouth (as well as the rest of your body) is paralised is affecting your ability to use it in-dream.
I think that probably explains why I find running so difficult. Flying pwns running anyway

When I was young, I would frequently have FAs where I tried to call out for my parents and could not get out more than a whisper. I hadn't had this happen for a long time, but I had another similar experience a few months ago. So I guess it's not all that unusual.

Keep an eye on that ... if it becomes increased or worse you may consider going to the doc. I have musical dreams frequently, but seem to have a volume control problem. Sometimes it's deafeningly loud and other times its real quiet. Key for me is memory. If you can remember well how your own voice sounds, or if you have a favorite song, the stronger the memory, the more clear or able to control dream sound I am. I have found also that sound related dreams are key to breaking out of the paralysis state. By creating/imagining either a loud clap or crack or slap, or by reciting a song "loudly" while also realizing you are not using your vocal chords but actually your brain, you can increase lucidity and alter your sleep levels. How, I 'm not sure. It's kinda like the whole "Is that air you're breathing" (Matrix) concept. Never had these carry over to wakey-land though.

hey, In my opinion you have nothing to worry about. It's in the same area as being unable to run away from a DC or finding it difficult to see.
I have had the same speech problems quite a few times when I enter a dream through SP, these are usually very short LDs that I have to slip back into 5-6 times before I can gain full control.
I think that because the body is paralysed during sleep the brain signals try to move your actual limbs - this is unsuccessful due to the chemical in the brain that prevents movement - my guess would be that this information just gets carried over in to the dream.

The trick is to not try too hard, if you can't speak in an LD try communicate another way, talk to people with your thoughts, for example.
Hope this helps
Are you dreaming or awake?

Why would you think that he should go to a doctor for this?

I just had this happen last night. I swear that when I finally could get my voice out, that it came from my real body... not my dream body. It sounds like this is kind of common. I don't understand how people can have conversations with DC's if they can't hear their own voice, or if they feel they can't get the words out. That would be too distracting to me. It would most likely pull me out of the dream.
