I always feel restrained.

I had my first lucid dream in a long time and I was having some difficulties that I've encountered before.

I woke up in a random room, but I felt really restrained. My body felt really heavy, and so did my eyelids and at the time I wasn't sure what to do. I tried opening the door but I just couldn't leave the house because I felt so heavy and stuff. I even tried flying through the window but I couldn't do that either.

I'm not sure what to do in these situations. I kept getting a false awakening, then ending up in the same place but I still could barely move. I just dropped it because it got annoying, and I lost lucidity.

Talk about a joy kill.

Did you try wiggling your fingers? After I do that I can get up for some reason completely fine.

Actually many years before I woke up in the middle of the night and started walking towards a door in my home, but I felt pretty slow and it was hard to keep my eyelids open. When I closed them, I was back at my bed, started walking, etc...

This happened about 5 times in a row. At the time I thought that I was in a state between sleepwalking and being awake. :P Just thought to mention.

I've got at last 5 lucids with this problem (all of my lucids), and I suppose that it's because I feel restrained in real life too, almost like I'm a puppet. Yet I don't have much to talk because I didn't surpass this.

I've never even thought of doing that. When I get into a lucid, I get so excited I try and do something like run around or fly without rubbing my hands or anything. I never think to do it when I'm in a lucid dream.

I'll try and keep that in mind for the next time this happens.

I know this is a relatively old thread,

but have you tried not to think about this feeling while you are in a dream, just go to the door and open it, don't focus on this feeling in any way instead try thinking about what you want to do in the dream your current task and it will pass very quickly. Pretend like it is not there.

I know this because I had the same peoblem every time I was FA, but after a few times it just went away, I don't feel heaviness anymore and even if I do it passes away in a few seconds. :)

Well, I have run into the same problems and they share some or all of the following characteristics:

1. You wake up in a room/bed whatever (for me it's most commonly the place I went to bed earlier)
2. At first it feels like you're in sleep paralysis, and when you fight out of it, you feel heavy like lead, some parts of your body may even be paralyzed, like one or both eyelids, one arm, a leg, and so on. Sometimes, you can't open one eye or only are able to lift both of your eyelids just half. (Sometimes you may gain full control, even become lucid, but it still won't help)
3. You get up, and try to leave. Which after a short time, ends in a WBTB expierience which iterates over again as another FA.
4. The iterations can go on for long times, like three or even ten times, before you finally wake up for real. Which wasn't excatly what one wanted from a lucid dream in the first place.

Is it by any chance, that you guys, expierence this while using WILD techniques? I noticed, that it happens in ALL of my lucids, if I become lucid immediatly at the very start of the dream. Which at this point is allways a FA for me, in the place I went to bed.

This happens to nearly all of my lucids now, but in the beginning my lucids hadn't had those problems at all, but since the onset, most or all lucids are of this nature, which is kinda annoying.

The only thing I really am able to do in these dreams, is concentrating on my real body, which triggers another FA as soon as I realize, I can feel both my real and my dream body at the same time.

Nah, I didn't even know about lucid dreaming at the time.

It was during a WILD for me. I'm experiencing exactly what you described.

well i think its an effect of actual sleep paralysiys going on into the dream because your brain was experiencing that right before (Because you were WILDing). Hmm yes don't think about it or imagine a way out trhat seems belivable to you- so long as your braain is convinced

yeah that's the EXACT thing that happens to me. i'll become lucid in a dream, immediately run and try to do stuff, the dream disintegrates, and i find myself stuck; either in my bed or in blackness. i forget i'm still dreaming, and keep trying to get up and move. each time after about 10 seconds, i have another FA. it usually happens like 6 or 7 times before i finally shoot up in my real bed at home and curse myself for not realizing i was still dreaming.

This happened again last night. It kept switching between being awake, being lucid, and in FA. I don't remember what happened, but I had a DILD (never usually happens to me, this is the second time) and I was suddenly aware I was in a lucid dream. The problem was though I was standing beside my bed, and I could not move. I just simply couldn't. I couldn't spin around or anything but I did a nose reality check and while the image got more vivid, I was still somewhat frozen. It's like when you're trying to run in a dream and it's all slow motion. I think only in the false awakenings I was actually moving properly, but I couldn't realize they were false awakenings.

At the last lucid I was lying in my bed, rubbing my hands and trying to get up. My sister walked in, I don't even remember what she was saying but I asked her to help me out of bed. She was pulling hard on my arm but I couldn't get up. I woke up in reality, and thought I saw a ghost so I freaked out and went back to bed all nervous, forgetting about the LD.

This is about the third lucid dream in a row that this has happened. Then again these are my first 3 that I've had in about a whole year. This needs to stop, it's actually very annoying. I've tried everything except wiggling my fingers because I forgot.. but I was rubbing my hands.

Edit: I forgot to mention that this time, when I would be lying in bed and I could feel myself transitioning into a lucid dream, it was scarier than usual. I felt like I was being sucked backwards into a black hole, while staying completely still. The sound was like intense wind power whooshing by my head. It was so weird. Maybe I was too afraid to get out of bed because it was dark, and the sounds creeped me out?

That would have been my next suggestion in fighting this and lifting the paralysis, but I had no chance yet to give it a try. But as it seems from your description, it doesn't seem to work either. :( But if I get the chance I will nontheless give it a try.

Sounds like auditory hypnagogic hallucinations, had this twice last week in one night. One sounded like a wild board roaming through some soil in search for some food or something, the other one like the snarling of an angry dog or something like that. I didn't even dare to turn myself around to take a look, because I was to much afraid of what it might be.

Just in case that you find a way to fight this, please don't forget to post it here. I think there are more people who encounter this problem.

I really enjoyed reading this thread, because I experience this every so often. It is REALLY strange. Toes the line between being "just a dream" or some other reality.

I have experienced this before as well, but before trying to do anything to get rid of it, I woke up. What I recommend is to "wait it out". Try stabilizing the dream while this feeling is going away.
