Time dilation
As my first thread, I'd like to donate my ideas on time dilation, or prolonging the amount of perceived time inside of a dream. There have been previous threads on this topic, but I am assuming you guys have rules restricting the bumping of old topics.
First off, after you've stabilized your dream, you've got to make a door appear by spinning around, and... making a door appear. On the other side of this door is a black hole, which, if any of you have read up on relativity, completely stops time relative to the outside world if you are inside of it. Along with this, an entire universe is created inside the black hole because of the effects of the black hole's torsion on spacetime. What you've got to do is take the time to realize that time is so distorted inside the black hole that the dream will continue on forever until you end the dream yourself. If you have trouble conceptualizing it, affirm to yourself, 'When I jump inside this black hole, my dream will last forever until I choose to jump back through it or end the dream myself.' Jump inside that black hole, and land on an identical, yet alternate Earth. Once you squeeze through the black hole, time relative to reality will be stopped, yet the timeline of the dream will continue on as normal.
I'll perfect this method the next times I have a lucid dream, and I'll tell you the results. If you want, you guys can try it out too and tell me how it goes.
Regards.

Did you already try this, and how did it work out.
Well, you know, that this actually would speed up your dream until it ends. Like time slows down in a black hole imho, this means that the perceived amount would actually be shorter than longer from the inside, and slower from the outside, that's what is called an event horizon. Dunno, physics ain't my thing ;)
But nice idea, though I doubt, that it can be controlled like that, because you no longer try to control things inside a dream, but the outside world.

It's interesting that you say that because, now that I think about it, although time is stopped inside a black hole relative to the outside world, from the point of view of the observer inside the black hole, the rest of the universe is moving extremely fast. I'm glad you pointed that out.
Let's call this an inverted black hole. (I think physics calls this a "white hole", but because they actually emit matter, we're going to have to use a black hole.) Time inside of it is extremely sped up relative to the outside world. From the point of view of the observer, the outside universe is extremely still, and unmoving. In this case, you could probably prolong your dream from your point of view for a seemingly very long amount of time.
I plan on testing this theory out the next time I turn lucid, but at the moment it remains untested.
-
Sorry to point this out but physics won't work the same in a dream as in real life. For one you've never experienced a black hole so your mind would be incapable of simulating a very realistic black hole. Maybe I'm wrong and this works for you. Tell me how it goes for you. I on the other hand think that there are other users who have posted more viable methods in the dream world.
-
physics doesnt matter anything. You just have to convince your brain to percieve that time is moving more slowly respect to real time, and if you are lucky it will. It isn't a common tactic and nearly nooone has experimented with it succesfully. mindgames, has this actually worjked for you atleast once?

Irken, it's fine if you want to use other methods. I'm simply trying to find a method that works easier and better than the rest. The reason I chose a black hole for this idea is because black holes immensely effect spacetime, so if you were to jump into one, your subconscious could very easily believe that time is distorted inside of a black hole in respect to real time, thereby letting you experience a longer dream from your perspective.
Thomulf, I haven't had a lucid dream since I posted this thread, but when I do have another lucid dream, I will test out this idea. That's why I'd like for other people to test out this theory before I get the chance to test it more in-depth.
To those of you who want to try testing this out, here are the basic requirements:
Make sure your dream is stable by doing a reality check or whatever your preferred method is.
Visualize a strong door (probably titanium or diamond) leading into a small room containing an inverted black hole. It's the same as a regular black hole, except you can see inside of it.
Turn 180 degrees and make the door appear. Open it to reveal the black hole.
When you look at the black hole, you are able to see the universe inside of it going extremely fast.
Jump inside the black hole and know that you jumped in at exactly the right moment. Land on a planet identical to earth.
This is the important part: As you're going through the inverted black hole, feel time stretching immensely. See the outside dream slowing down to the point where it almost stops. See the universe you're jumping into slowing down to normal speed. Then quickly re-stabilize.
Try to keep your dream going for as long as possible, and maintain lucidity.
If you test this out, make sure you quote your dream journal here.

although if time dilation is possible so is that Inception limbo thing. Freaky.
-
Time dilation is completely plausible. However, I think it requires a lot of control, at least at first. I read a thread where someone went on two years using his time dilation technique. I'm sure I could track it down for you if you're interested in his technique. It actually deals with stopping time completely.
-
well, the inception thing was just a thought. It would be nigh on impossible to have a dream that seemed to last 50 years.
-
Fifty years, now that's a ridiculously long time. I never finished Inception haha. I don't think I'd want a dream that lasts fifty-years. Maybe like a week at the most you know.
I happen to enjoy my waking life too :D

Yes, I agree that it would require a lot of control over your subconscious. But if people can manipulate fire and fly through outer space, why not manipulate time? It seems completely plausible to me. The brain isn't fully understood yet and there's nothing saying we can't control our perception of time. It's only perception; it's not like we're actually manipulating real-world time.
It'd be great if you tracked down that thread for me, Irken. I'd like to see the techniques that person used.
Thomulf, before you learned about lucid dreaming, it was impossible to reverse gravity and manifest dead spirits right before your eyes. When you learned how to lucid dream, that all changed, didn't it? Give time dilation the same chance you gave everything else, and maybe you'll be rewarded with longer lucid dreams. Who knows, maybe we could reproduce the dream length in Inception given the right techniques. We won't know until we try it.
Edit: I found the thread on google (search term "time dilation" "2 years" lucid): dreamviews.com/f11/extremely-odd-lucid-ability-106651/
It's interesting what method he uses. By counting the seconds and trying to make the dream last longer, I'm assuming he's subconsciously stretching time. He's willing his dream to last longer, but since he obviously can't prolong the length of a REM period by much, his perception of time must be shifting. Notice how he can't do many extraordinary things without the dream becoming unstable; I think this is because he only has so much DMT (dream chemical) for his brain to use inside the dream.
This is another method we can try to use to dilate time. I'm going to try my black hole method and see how that goes, and then move on to his method. Thanks for pointing that out to me, Irken.

No problem, I don't believe DMT is the reason for stabilization of our dreams. I believe that all has to do with the mind and it's ability to remain in the thought of being asleep as well as the body staying asleep. DMT is an interesting chemical and is found all throughout nature. Not just in humans. I'm not sure if using DMT and WILDing would even be possible or change how you dream. Maybe if you ingested the chemical and went into an LD before it activated. It is possible to get the DMT to react with your brain chemistry if you have a chemical that helps with this ingestion. Although be aware that having natural DMT is perfectly fine but possessing or using the chemical is illegal. Which is kind of silly imo. Research it more before making it illegal. Stupid US government.
