forming expectations

I have a question about how you guys use expectations for control. So i have two competing theories when trying to summon something or change the environment.

1. ill use changing the scene as an example. when you guys expect something to be on the other side of a door, do you stand there for a few seconds and try to visualize the new environment? kind of imagining it in detail?

2. i sometimes try to let my subconscious figure it out. like if i am trying to change the environment, ill run up to a door and yell something like "oh sweet this goes to X". then i run through it in a rush. i dont take a minute to visualize it. my subconscious knows what a cliff looks like. i let it fill in the details. i was thinking this may help people who have problems over-thinking. too much thought might let the schemas of real life can set in.

i have had mixed results with both methods. so i was wondering which you usually use. or have any of you even tried the quick one?

Passively "know" what's going to happen, and you can do anything. It's like pretending you're in a movie that you've seen a billion times over.

1. Yes, that's what I do. I often don't have to visualize too much because I've already done it in real life (I often visualize and go over what I'm going to do in my next LD). But if you're unsure as to how powerful the visualization is in the dream, make sure you can really "see" what's going to be on the other side before opening that door.

2. I tried doing that a few times when I was starting out LDing, and I found passive control works better than just shouting something out. I found that it's much less reliable because even if you say the door will open up to a rainforest, the forest itself may be extremely blurry or even look burnt down. In other words, different than what you wanted it to be like.

The trick is to not think too much, but still visualize where you want to go. Know what part of the location you'll see when you open the door. If you want to open it up to a street, will you emerge from the door of a building and onto the sidewalk, or out of a non-moving car?

Some times I'll use a door, walk around a corner, or just close my eyes. I often say out loud our "loudly" in my head that there will be X location around this corner. I fill in a little details, like if i want to go to a tropical island i will imagine a beach with palm trees, but i let my subconscious fill in the little details, such as how much sand, how tall the trees are, what fruits are on the trees.

Recently though, I've just been snapping my fingers, not even closing my eyes. It's pretty fun to see the scene change in an instant right before you eyes, but I think it takes a bit more control.

Im not explaining it that well. the quick, subconscious method is still meant to be a form a passive control. a better example is if i say "oh yeah...this door goes to those rolling hills...i cant believe i forgot...duh." its like i try to mimic an actual thought and trick my mind that i truly forgot. i have noticed it works better when i involve a DC. like i say, "this DC told me it was here." i also get good results when i tell the DC to open the door for me.

i was hoping this would help get rid of the schemas of normal life. if i just "remember" it being there, i dont have to try and create it. that can sometimes be more difficult for me.

Right, I get it now. That's a good method to use, and it can work as well as silently expecting something to happen - I actually use it sometimes and it's only failed me once!
