Closing your eyes in a dream...

The first time i did it was before I opned the curtains to expect a nice environment, I opened it to a beach, then I closed my eyes again to imagine something...and i woke up...does closing your eyes in a dream wake you up sometimes??? should I resist closing my eyes when I want something to happen????

hmm thats weird though, Stephen LaBerge never mentioned that in his book. I'll test it out tonight/tomorow morning when I WILD again.

Everything in dreams requires your attention to exist. Close your eyes and you can't focus on your surroundings properly, you dream world ceases to exist, and you have a good chance of waking up.

I sometimes use closing my eyes to go through walls and doors when I can't with them open; if I can't see the obstacle it's much easier to go through it. You just have to make sure to maintain focus on your other senses. Just like when the dream begins to fade and you lose visuals if you start to rub your hands or feel the ground you can regain control and keep the dream going. If you close your eyes to do something just make sure to concentrate on your other senses to stay in the dream.

I find if i quickly blink it has no effect but if i close my eyes for more than a second i usually either wake up or have a false awakening. Since in both the real world and the dream world we rely heavily on our sense of sight, it usually overpowers all other senses. So if you close your eyes without trying to compensate with your other senses it would make sense if your dream, at the very least, loses clarity.

that makes so much sense, i appreaciate the responses, ill make sure to either rub my hands if i close my eyes or make sure i maintain focus while doing it.

I have only had a lucid "fragment" I had control for about 10 seconds. I tried to change the scenery around me, so I closed my eyes and when I opened them I was in nothing but eternal darkness.

      It was kinda weird.

I have actually fallen asleep in a dream on occasion, and feel like I'm starting to have a new dream. Then I'll wake up and think it's real life. These are called false awakenings I believe, but they required me to close my dream eyes in order to get there. I guess it works because I'm not lucid, I don't know. I'll try closing my eyes during an LD and see what happens.

well one time i had an ld and i was about to have sex with a girl but then i could hear my moms voice( this was a wbtb and she was awake so i new it wasn't part of the dream) so i concentrated really hard and tried to make a girls appear by closing my eyes and when i opened them i saw my dog next to my bed and i thought i was awake (it was actually a false awekening) so then i closed my eyes again and tried to go back into the dream but it didn't work so when i opened my eyes my dog was gone and my door was shut. so i asked my mom if she or my sister put him in my room and she said no. it really pissed me off. so yeah closing your eyes wakes u up

Very few times does it not wake me up. I didn't realize this until I read it on the forums though. I just kept mysteriously waking up from lucid dreams until I realized that the cause was simply blinking!

When i try to imagine something in RL, I almost always close my eyes and this habit came into the Dreamworld (luckily I didn't wake up when I tried it but it was in only one LD)

Yeah, I always wake up too, even blinking gets my dream unstable. Its kinda upsetting, since my vision gets blurry very often and I try to rub my eyes instinctively.
Next time I will try some (dream) duct tape =P

I wanted something to appear in front of me so I decided to close my eyes. When I opened the desired object (it was some kind of food) was there.

Whenever I close my eyes for like 5 seconds and then open it, I'm awake.

When I close my eyes in my dream I do it with purpose, the moment I close them I fall backwards and I just fall endlessly through a "wind" and I am at times able to conjure up any scenario. The problem is most of your try to open your actual eyes bringing you back to waking life. At one point when I was just falling I started to meditate on the heart and then a voice spoke to me and said hello, I was surprised and happy to hear it. I simply asked him about the afterlife and in short I was told that it is just existence there is no duality like In this life, there is no wants or needs you simply exist. It's hard to grasp but at the time I thought he was one of these beings that just exist so I asked how he was communicating all of this... which from my perspective was a valid question but he (it was very calm males voice) never replied.
