Completed my first Lucid Goal...but wasted such a good opportunity in such a pathetic way...Help?

This afternoon I had an LD which was not brought on by my impending death, which was my most basic lucid goal. In my dream, my room at Uni looked really bleak and I was playing Harry Potter on the Playstation, getting frustrated that Harry was repeatedly getting killed by Voldemort and his death-eating freaks. Then it suddenly occured to me that I don't own a Playstation, so I must be dreaming.

The problem is, in my dream I had no sense of adventure. While awake, I've imagined HP/Inception dreams, fighting off zombies with the best characters from all sorts of fiction, jumping through TVs into worlds, fighting like a ninja, hell if the mood struck, I may have even met more characters and attempting February's basic task :shadewink

Harry and I should have done this:

Yet in the dream guess what I did? Killed Voldemort by repeatedly pressing the 'X' button on the joypad FFS I should have taken him down with the poise of Dumbledore and the moves of Beatrix Kiddo...what a waste!

      Any advice please?

anything that you do to stabilise the dream will also have the effect of bringing more of your consciousness into the dream.its quite frustrating when you realise that you missed an opportunity through to lack of imagination. however read up on a few stabilising techniques, and you should be able to bring your imagination and tasks into the dream with you. best simple ones are touching everything you can, quickly without dwelling on one thing. or simply visually examining everything in the same manner. good luck also once you do this there will be no need to mess around with attacking fictional characters

Thanks, I should mention that by characters, I also mean regular DCs. I'll try out some stabilization techniques and see what happens, anyone have any more that work for them?

For stabilization? I would advice focusing on a sense, like looking at something or touching something or trying to smell something. Then stop for a short while and try to think of tasks.

Ok, that sounds like a plan since my sense of touch was pretty crisp last night so I could've built on that, thanks

There seems to be a delicate balance between allowing the dream to be spontaneous versus keeping yourself logical and lucid. I like to let things slip a bit so the dream will stay interesting, imaginative and narrative.

Thanks. That's a very good point actually, as long as I don't miss out on another chance to stylishly whoop some bad guys in order to stare passively at a screen, I'm all for letting situations occur. Keeps you on your toes

yeah i know, ill just never understand why people who get lucid just want to have fights with their dream characters. i guess it makes sense if you are still in that state where you create dc's that attack you, but i would much rather just befriend them and fly off somewhere i guess. each to their own. enjoy your fighting my friend. i guess it must be nice if you have been attacked by things in the past to get a bit of your own back

Hm, fighting isn't just for revenge, it can be fun, and you can tie it to just so many experiences, like experimenting with acids, gravity, ways to move, quick thought, etc, etc.

The only fighting I really want to do is crazy gymnastic fighting cos I'm in a wheelchair and I'll never really get to feel that agile in waking life, I'm not gonna kill any DCs...just stun terrorists and help my favourite people outta situations.

cool its so great when you can rise up out of the limitations of the physical body isnt it. let us know how you get on

sometimes it has seemed to me that there are whole new levels above lucidity to be had when you reach a kind of inner peace. havent got there yet much, but im happy where i am for now. give the zombies one from me

I once had an LD when I thought the whole world was a video game. Whenever I tried something I would think "what button do I press"? I guess its just the matter of how much lucidity you have.

I have wasted many lucids by getting stuck or sucked back into a dream narrative. I avoid that now with one simple thing that you can always do.

The moment you become lucid...LEAVE. Go away from whatever you were doing or trying to do. No matter how lucid you are it is difficult to separate your feelings of trying to accomplish something from when you were just non-lucid. You KNOW you are all powerful and can accomplish anything but its so hard to give up something you were a moment ago just so emotionally invested in.

When you put literal distance between you and what you were just doing it keeps you from wasting opportunities.
