      Mind vs Lucidity

Hey all. I'm new to the forum but I've been a lucid dreamer since I can remember. I actually didn't know lucid dreaming was uncommon until I started telling people my crazy dreams. Anyways...

I saw a similar post, but wanted to share my experiences and wondered about others experience. Has your mind ever put up a barrier against your dream? I know a lot of you have actually done research on Lucid Dreaming and will probably say no, because with LD you should control your dream. I lucid dream. Don't know the mechanics behind it. I just do. And my mind has stopped me from doing stuff. It does it in different ways: by not allowing me to leave a place, by simply changing the scene (I can change my scenes too but only do so with nightmares that involve me as a child... I dunno, it happens, guys!).

      But yea, anyone have this?

An example was a couple nights ago, in my dream, I was in the hospital with extreme abdominal pain. The whole time I'm in the dream I'm thinking, what a waste of a dream! I tried to leave the hospital and stop the pain, but I couldn't. I tried to get doctors to help me, but they wouldn't. That's when I really knew I was dreaming. So I tried to change the hospital scene but couldn't. In my dream, much like in real life, I figured out that the cause of my pain was cramps. I knew I had to wake myself up and take some pain medication (Tylenol) before the cramps got bad. I really didn't want to wake up because I have slight insomnia and waking up was going to screw me up. I actually had this thought process in my dream. But I had to wake myself and take the Tylenol. During the whole dream I did not want to wake up- so I know I was lucid. But I couldn't keep dreaming and I couldn't get out of the hospital! Or get a doctor to treat me!!

And I have had other moments when I'm LD and know I'm dreaming and enjoying my dream (cause I know it's a dream... shhhh ), and then my mind switches up what I'm doing, or removes the person I am interacting with and replaces them, and I can't change them back- but then my alarm goes off and it's coincidentally time to wake up.

I dunno... I may be the only one on this!

Maybe it is me, but I think you need to practice being lucid while awake.

Relation to self, I believe very strongly about, is inadmissible. One can be taught via dreams, but it cannot teach itself.

Possibly. I enjoy my dream life way too much. But I wouldn't change it. Any other suggestions?

Do you belive that the purpose of lucid dreaming is the enjoyment you may or may not get from it?

I don't know what the point is to LD. But I write down the real scary ones. I would like to write a book of short stories- horror genre.

And of course there are the others that I enjoy simply because I know they are dreams. I didn't know there had to be a purpose for LD...

It's just annoying when my mind doesn't let me do stuff like, change a character. I can change a person all the time. But sometimes, my mind doesn't let me... :-/

So, you dont think a function of a living organism has to have any particular purpose?

and you apparently believe that you are different from your mind?

Lol, oh gosh. Depends. Do you choose to follow Aristotle's explanation, or Plato's.
I'm done entertaining you. But a lovely welcome it was!

You were not entertaining me, the level of your confusion is much too primitive. I was trying to get you to think about what you were saying.

In the way of reasoning ability, Aristotle could not hold a candle to Plato.

Sorry, kittysleeps. Phil got to you before anyone else could. He likes to try and confuse people. You should know that most of us are much friendlier.

As for your question, this is an issue that I think many of us run into. Dream control is not always easy. It can get easier with more practice, but it sounds like you already have some practice. Sometimes "passive control" works better than "active control". That would mean going along with the rules of the dream to change something rather than trying to will them to change. So, in your case, thinking something like, "oh, one of the doctors gave me some pills for the pain earlier and I put them in my pocket!" and then checking your pocket for pills might work better than trying to force a doctor to treat you. Don't know if that helps at all.

Love to have new people here, especially ones with previous lucid dreaming experience. Welcome to Dreamviews!

Thanks Perlinfalcon. Phil doesn't bug me. There's one of him in every and any board. I have an older brother, so the back and forth is fun for me. But I guess LD concept is deeper for him. We all have our passions I suppose...

These kind of barriers are common in my dreams, so I'm going to try and remember that. I guess since I'm used to LD, it's harder for me to bring in outside/ new ideas. I really wish I remember that for my next dream. Thanks again
