Not enough variety...
When I am lucid while dreaming, I don't have very much, if any variety in terms of my surroundings unless I make it so. I am always in a field of some kind, surrounded by hills and small groves of trees and clumps of rock... I can create as much as I want, but it is a time consuming process for me to build cities, towns, caves or what have you, and I have yet to make a human being appear who acts like they should. When I first started lucid dreaming, I started my dreams in various places, both derived from real places and imaginary. I had little control and lots of variety, but now the situation is opposite. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to regain the 'randomness' of dreams? Don't get me wrong, I never tire of playing god, but to be able to start my dreams in places that require a little less conscious input would be great.

You could try teleporting to a new location instead of building it from scratch. Find a door that will lead you to where you want to go, or a teleporation device.

Watch youtube vids of large cities and surroundings before going to bed, should help alot.

Thanks for the great suggestions, guys! I'll be sure to try both of those tonight.

Dream content often comes from things we see, think about, or do during the day. Watching fantasy/sci fi movies, looking at pictures of interesting objects or buildings, daydreaming, and listening to interesting music could change the content of your dreams. This is called "day residue". :)
