      How can I Stay calm?

I'm sure that there have been other threads but nothing quite what i'm looking for. I have been practicing for over a year and i can get lucid on a fairly regular basis, especially if i go back to sleep after waking up, i can do it nearly every time. It's staying lucid and in the dream that has eluded me.

So most times i become lucid, like 95% of the time i wake up in my bed. Sometimes i have to be careful because i'll think im still trying to get to sleep but i'm already sleeping. I developed a weird way to help with this, i try to roll off the bed without actually moving. I kind of try to do it with my mind and instead of my body. If i feel myself moving then i know i'm dreaming and it's save to go about my business

ANYWAY i wake up in my room and i lost lucidity very quickly. I'll usually go through cycles of finding myself in bed, get up to do something then i'll lose the dream and end up right back in bed again to start all over. This can happen as many as 10+ times until i wake myself up or just stop trying to stay conscious of my dreams.

I've tried the spinning, rubbing hands, holding onto a piece of clothing, trying to focus my vision on something but a lot of times the dream fades out so quickly that i don't have any time to do any of this. Most of it is due to excitement so how do you stay calm? I just can't seem to do it. The longest lucid dream i've had was MAYBE 5 minutes, if that. Any tips? Thanks!

Try using methods of incubation, or try (calm) waking life actions and have them carry over into your dreams. If you don't know what incubation is: it basically is a form of visualizing a dream the way you would like before falling asleep and re-visualizing that instance. I use to have that problem. Now, for the most part I become lucid as calm as can be.

      Interesting

Interesting, i'll certainly give that a try. How long are you able to stay lucid for?

I haven't hit a peak point in time where my concentration on attempting lucids had remained consistent (I'm going to change that ) , but at times I can have lucids that last me about 8+ mins and I consider that pretty good for the sporadic amount of concentration I had before. I started doing what I recommended because I actually had a lot of brief lucids before that were killed by quick jolt of excitement and realization.

      Same Problem Here..

I can attain lucidity fairly often, but I run into the same problems as you do. I honestly have tried all the common tricks people have mentioned but they always end up faded into SP, or just a normal waking state. It really bothers me as well, I think I need to start meditating before bed more often, or maybe try that visualizing thing the above guy proposed.

It is sooo frustrating! Its like being so close, but so fucking far away.

What I do is I've developed a routine. When I realize I'm lucid, I use some techniques from a tutorial I read; I look around the area I am in (which is usually outside, because for some reason I am more likely to realize I'm lucid if the dream takes place outside), and kneel down and feel the ground. I listen for sounds and get all my senses involved in the dream. I then make a plan for the dream. If I don't do these things, I usually forget I'm dreaming midway through the course of the dream, or realize I'm dreaming but not really understand what that entails.
