      a positive schema

i remember seeing some schemas floating around on here like "if you close your eyes you wake up." "if you don't stabilize the dream won't last long" "don't ever say will in your mantras"

here's a positive schema, you can reject schemas if you so choose.

this may or may not work, but if you fully believe something isn't true, then in your dreams it won't be. you should be able to make that work for you.

I've had dreams where I close my eyes and don't wake up, I've had lucid dreams where I don't stabilize properly but the dream lasts longer than ones where I have, and I've also had lucid dreams after saying "will become lucid" in my mantra, so I agree with you. Most of these "you will wake up if you _________" are just all in a persons head, so they decide to say it on DV's and other people read it and start to beleive that their dreams are gonna end if they do "________" whatever it may be, which in turn negatively effects their ability to LD.

I applaud your efforts here. I dunno how many people can fully appreciate what you've done in this thread, but I'm sure this is going to help a lot of people down the road.

      Awesome job.

Very nice OP. I agree with you...there are generally no solid rules when it comes to dreaming. Guidelines yes, but each of us makes our own rules for dreaming, so a lot of these myths are perpetuated by our own perception and beliefs that the myths are true.

I agree with you. A good metaphor would that it's just like painting - you set the tone color but from there on it can either go brighter or darker as there are no set rules. Anything is possible as you paint your dream! Thanks for keep it simple yet informative.

That's why I refuse to read topics where "you can't do this". Even about reading, I know it is hard due the material is highly unstable, but I've read many reports of people that could read in their dreams. Like others say "don't stare at something for too long or you will wake up", and I see people saying "take 1minute to look at your hands, focus your eyes in them".

It's all about your schemas, thanks for reminding us of that

This has pretty much been my philosophy all along. I guess I had been totally oblivious to the fact that many people don't automatically realize it's strictly a mental thing and connect the two.

Everything is about expectations, I've had dreams where I closed my eyes and didn't wake up as well. Hell, I even had a lucid dream last night where my eyes were shut for the first good 30 seconds or so, I thought I was still lying in bed trying to sleep

In some dreams I've been lucid but through bizarre dream logic convinced myself rubbing my hands to stabilise the dream would wake me up... and I woke up!

When I want wake up from a dream, pinching and believing it will wake me up, does it for me

Although, admittedly, I've only done this once. I was on the bus home, when suddenly it took a non-standard-route turn, but I figured it might have been a detour for whatever reason. Then suddenly the bus was driving over this dingy wooden bridge along a cliff, and I just realised how ridiculous that was so I pushed the stop button and the bus stopped. The driver looked round, it was my coworker, lol. So I got off, said I'd just wake up from this ridiculousness, pinched myself and felt myself get heavier and kinda numb getting out of the dream (like reverse Dream Paralysis), and the last thing I felt was my arms falling slowly into place on my chest. I was lying on my back.

When I woke up, however, I was lying on my side, so I was slightly disoriented for a moment I also saw a visual hallucination. Like I seriously did reverse DP..
