How exactly do I lucid dream?

I've been reading a few posts here about people saying "just learned how to lucid dream" etc, how do I do it? I don't think I can just dream and then imagine me doing something, I feel like my brain doesn't work like that.

Is there anything I can practice while I'm awake? I'd love to have the experiences everyone else here is having. Thanks!

Lucid dreaming is an alternate reality unbound by the laws of physics. The law of conservation states that no matter can be created or destroyed in any chemical or physical reaction. The creation of new things in dreams bypasses this fundamental law. What you believe to exist physically when your dreaming only truly exists in your mind, think back to the quote from the first Matrix:

Spoon boy: Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth.
      Neo: What truth?
Spoon boy: There is no spoon.
      Neo: There is no spoon?
Spoon boy: Then you'll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.

By willing something to happen in your dream you are making it happen, as it only exists in your mind.

There are many techniques that you can try to get lucid dreams, there is DILD, MILD, WILD, DEILD... but I'd suggest you try DILD or MILD. There are many great tutorials here on DV. What you can do while you're awake, you can question reality, do reality checks, think that when you go to sleep you'll have an LD (Lucid Dream). Questioning reality is hard at first (atleast it was for me), you just have to wonder if this is a dream. Ask yourself is there anything that could prove that this is a dream. Because in dream you don't question the dream, if there's huge flying goldfish, you'll propably say well that's odd, instead you should be thinking "Oh my god, this is a dream, I can do what ever I want!!!". If you need help ask for it or browse the tutorials. I'm sure there will be many people to help you.

Start by reading through the site for tutorials and such. Pick a technique that sounds nice and stick with it. Practice it, experiment a bit with it, and keep going. You CAN do it, it just takes some time and effort. That is why it is important to pick a technique you like, because you'll have to work with it for quite a while You can always switch techniques ofcourse, but many techniques take a while to take effect, so you should stick with the one you choose for a while

When I first started I just read everything on the main site: Introduction

But I would suggest Puffin's beginner guide: http://www.dreamviews.org/f20/beginn...eaming-124786/

And high five for having the same name as me.

Do reality checks, read the tutorials and do some mantras. Practice your dream recall/record your dreams in a dream journal and constantly research! There is no easy way to lucid dream, for some people it comes naturally but for most it takes time and patience and lots of practice.

It does work like that, if you train it too. And belief is a powerful thing, if you truly want to do it, you must believe it is possible.

Sounds like you haven't read anything in this forum if your asking such a basic question. Read the links anthonyyy0 gave you and afterwards go to the 'attaning lucidity' collections of threads and check out the different techniques members have posted. Look for a technique that would suit you, specifically something that won't disrupt your daily routine and is compatible with your sleeping style. If your looking for ease of use though, The MILD technique is probably the best method however once again it depends on you. You'll find it detailed in one of anthonyyy's links.

Btw I'm a complete n00b and so far have only achieved lucidity once though I have to say it was one of the most extraordinary expereances I've ever had. Depending on your paticular unique phisiology, it can be a hard road to success but that one occurence has been enough to keep me trying.
