Hi guys I'm finding it a little hard to fly when lucid so I decided to summon something that could help me. I thought of a green lantern ring (for those who don't know it is from a comic book character who can use it to fly and stuff). Anyway I'v tried searching for it in my pocket and looking in draws while dreaming but it just isn't there. Does anyone know a reliable summoning technique that I could possibly use to get hold of that dang ring?

Expectation and the willingness to lie to yourself. Confidence even if it is undeserved. You hear people tell you to just believe that some thing will be where you are looking for it, but maybe you are hoping it will be there. Hoping, is expressing doubt. If you need to, then pretend you have confidence. Say you go to a drawer and you want the ring. Actually state, "I left my ring in this drawer," open the drawer and reach in. Let's say you do not find it; refuse to admit it. Think "oh cool here it is" maybe even say it out load. Reach in and grab what ever is in there. With the appearence of complete confidence make the same motions you would as if you saw the ring. Put it on your finger even if you have yet to see it. Then go on with the story as if it worked. Say out loud "awesome, now I have the ring" and maybe even show it (even if you do not see it) to someone.
This takes practice. The idea is simply to refuse to accept that you will not get your way, and continue as if you did get what you want. You may end up actually having the ring on your finger, when you go to show some one. Before long, you will master the art of fooling yourself. Or in other words "Fake it, until you make it."
To take Sivason's already sound advice one more step:
Rather than summon that ring, why not just find it right on your finger in the first place? Again, even if it's not there at first, take Sivason's advice and tell yourself -- just know -- that it is there. Do that and it will be there, right on your finger; even if it isn't (if that makes any sense). That way you waste no precious flying time looking for a token that you were always wearing, had you formed your expectations from "knowledge," rather than "hope."
And by the same token, if you go into your dream "knowing" you can fly, or rather harboring no doubt whatsoever that you can fly, you'll be able to do so without summoning anything, or rifling through drawers looking for Hal Jordon's lost jewelry.
Thanks guys, you've raised some great points. The overall idea of just refusing what the dream throws at you if you don't like it is great. I guess I should just work on my expectations in future. I'm still fairly new really so it will take hard work!
