      Being Stuck In Bed

Been having more frequent LD's than I normally do without really trying (1 a week, as opposed to my normal rate of 1 a month, when I'm not actively trying to LD). Wandered back to these forums and decided to share a strange problem I've been having.

Basically - I've been doing reality checks as soon as I wake up, and I often find that I am actually dreaming when I think I am lying in bed awake (my reality check is looking at my hands, for the record. Works well. They are transparent in my dreams).

The weird thing is - after discovering I am lucid, I find that I cannot pull myself out of bed to go do fun lucid things! Feels as if I am stuck to my bed with a rubber band, almost. It reminds me of sleep paralysis, but I do not think it is that, since I can perform a reality check just fine. Frustrating!

Anyway, I was luckily able to break free last night, but only after a significant amount of effort. Not sure what actually did it. Anyone else ever have this problem. Any recommendations for things to try next time it happens to me?

I think in these situations the worst thing you can do is struggle. Never try to fight the dream, unless struggle is all you want to feel. When you struggle you reinforce the idea that you are being held down. But it's a dream. There can be nothing holding you down. You can never be stuck. You may feel like you're in bed, but you are also in your closet, outside, on the moon, all at the same time.

If this happens again just surrender yourself. Relax and let the dream take total control. After you've done this just casually take the control back and continue with the dream. If you still feel like you're struggling after you've surrendered then you didn't surrender fully.
