      Emotions and Dream Control.

Hey everyone. My level of dream control is pretty good. I'll admit it's not perfect and does need some improvement but all in all I would say I have quite a good amount of control and awareness in my dreams. However the majority of the time when I get lucid I go in search of a certain person. I can make them appear instantly. My problem is once I find them my emotions get in the way which makes the dream rapidly fall back into a non lucid dream or I am still lucid but have a lot of trouble keeping my awareness and often my control. I find this also makes the person morph into other people or just look slightly different.

I still want to be able to go talk to this person in my dreams but I need to find a way so that my emotions don't overwhelm me. Any ideas what I can try and do the next time I find this person?

You can try to reinforce the idea that you're in a dream, thus you are not interacting with the real person. Many times we might feel anxious about a particular dream element (or character) because we still have some worries about not being in a dream. Like when in one lucid I actually moved away from a car afraid of being hit by him and getting hurt. Even though I knew I was dreaming, I still failed to realize that no physical harm could be done to me.

Try to perform a few reality checks and keeping the though of "this is merely a dream" in your head during the interaction. If you have to, stop during it to perform a reality check, or even declare to the dream character "give me a minute, I need to retain lucidity". Hope it helps.
