Broke Dry Spell! And control questions

So this morning i had my first lucid dream in a long time.
Im not sure if my troubles were because I havent had one in so long. but for about 30 seconds after i achieved lucidity, which I didnt get overexcited about or anything, I was saying ENHANCE VISUALS! and I AM LUCID, THE WORLD IS VIVID. Then I randomly woke up. I stayed still, and I re entered my dream, still lucid. However, the dream was continually getiting darker and darker and no matter what I tried or willed or yelled to happen, the sky turned all the way black and I woke up, not falling back asleep again.
Any one know how I could have prevented waking up? Thanks!~

I believe that sometimes you just become lucid at the end of REM and you just wake up at your appointed time.

It might have been when you saw the world get a little darker you were expecting to wake up. If the world gets darker then don't worry about it, some lucid dreams are just darker than others.
