      Detaching from your body...

So I think I had my first LD last night. I went to the bottom of an ocean for whatever reason and while laying there, I thought to myself, hey, I can breathe. And my eyes are closed but i can see. I must be dreaming!!! So I kept as calm as I could because I know how most 1st timers tend to get over excited and crash the dream. This was all fine and I'm calm only I can't move. I feel myself connected to my real life body which is sleeping in the same posistion that I'm laying at the bottom of the ocean. All I could think of was to "believe" that I could move but as soon as I tried to push up, I pushed up in real life and woke up. The whole event seemed to last about 9 or 10 seconds. Very cool but I couldn't "wake up" and take control. I wouldn't have even been able to rub my hands or talk or anything because I could feel completely attached to my real body.

So the reason I'm putting this into the control forum is that I've searched around and noticed that this seems to be as common as becoming over excited. It kind of took away from the event that I could feel lucid but couldn't do anything.

Any ideas on ways to overcome this?

Also, since i'm asking questions, I've been at this since about Dec 10th so I think I'm doing pretty good. How long after your first did you have a second or third when you were able to "pull it all together?

I had the same problem as you in many of my lucids. I overcame it by staying perfectly still for at least a few minutes. Yup, I did nothing in a lucid dream, because if I moved I would wake up in my real body. While I stay still I try to focus on every object I can see and make it more clear. In a few minutes you will forget about your real body and be in your dream body. I hope that this helps. If it doesn't feel free to PM me and I'll try and help you personally.
