Try engaging as many of your senses in dream as possible, like trying to feel some object, listen to it, look at that object, smell and taste it, also when you were doing verbal command were you expecting it to get more vivid? If not, expect it next time. For me, dreams early in the night seem to be less vivid than later ones, so I WBTB after 5 hours.
Also, smelling and tasting things usually make it more stable.
