      How to land when flying?

This is something I typically have trouble with. I have no problem getting up into the air, but if I want to lower myself to land on a specific spot, say next to a DC, I usually have some trouble. What are some ways you use to lower yourself?

I guess it depends on method of flying in first place. I've landed... well.. like someone flying using wings would land, worked out completely naturally for me.

Thanks Scionox, that gives me some ideas.

I don't use wings, I just jump up into the air. Maybe focusing on my target and letting myself drop or dive down is the way to go. Hopefully I'll be able to try it out sometime soon.

I've never really thought about it. Landing is just as easy as flying to me. I think about and it happens, so maybe confidence is the issue? Don't really know.

Maybe instead of concerning yourself with landing you could just imagine or picture the next place you want to be. That way your dreaming mind can deposit you on the ground (in a new scene) instantly rather than work through all the difficult aerodynamic details involved with giving you a sensation of landing. It might sound like kind of a cheat, but it'll get you on the ground while simultaneously reminding you that there really is no physical flying in dreams, just a presented sensation of it.

The only time I flew, I just smacked into a tree to stop (not intentionally).

Assuming you don't mind dream-pain, try smashing yourself into the ground?

I don't think at all when I fly, so when I land it is just when I get to my destination. In order to fly consistently I have to think of it as much as I think about walking, that is to say, not at all. This is something I think most people do when they get better at flying, but since I sucked at it at first I couldn't do it naturally, I had to do a lot of mantras to change my mind about it so that I could get better at it. :/

Other ways to and would be to just teleport to the ground where you see it (if you are good at teleporting). Good luck. It really depends on what you do in dreams, how you should land.

Like Scionox said i guess it depends on the method of flying but i also think speed is an important factor. Once occurred to me that i was flying very fast and i couldnt control the speed. I was doing planet travelling, so you could imagine how fast i was flying, and of course i wanted to land before i crashed anything, but i realized crashing was the only way to land so i crashed in a highway (did a lot of mess by the way, and didn't die). Although speed is a part of our dreams totally controllable i find it better to let the dream (my unconscious) take control of those aspects (moslty physics aspects unless i want to experiment) and i try to find creative solutions to them.

So far I like what Sageous suggests best. It gets to the core of things. Experience what you want to experience. If the fun is in flying, then just slip into the next scene and skip the landing. Like this,,, I am flying to France!!! Weeee!! I will do a couple flips on the way!!! Ok, now here I am in front of such and such.

If you want to experience landing, it is good to. Sometimes I try to keep the graphics flowing smoothly in a story and avoid fade in or fade out tricks. In that case it comes to pretending you have complete confidence until you do. Picture that you already have landed smoothly. Like this,,, I am flying! Weeee! (insert this thought) what a sweet landing (note the thought is said with confidence before you even tried landing) nice, I nailed it. If you do this right the visuals will conform to your wishes and you will see yourself land smoothly.
Try to never over think an action. Brandon makes a good point in comparing it to walking. Dream up the story as if it were a story. He walked, he flew, he landed. Not,,,, He extended one foot and felt for the ground, but was unsure if it was really there, so he shifted his weight,,,, who wants to hear a story told that way? Fly like you would walk, with little thought involved as far as details.

I think I have the knowledge and confidence now to get rid of this problem.

Flying is my way of teleporting myself somewhere else so landing is typically as important as the flying itself. In today's lucid, to land I just had the thought of letting myself fall. For some reason I thought landing on my back would be a good idea.
