I am not sure about the spinning thing. It sounds a bit silly to me,but who knows. Try instead reducing all your inputs to the bare minimum. Your brain has trouble handling so much new data. LD is inherently weird as far as your brain goes, plus you must build up 'processing power.'
So, instead of looking around at everything in a n excited manner, focus on one small thing until you feel things are stable. This is a good time to try to find your hands. Finding your hands is the first task I set before any new LDer. It will teach you to create a good dream body and can make you good at stabilizing the dream. Just think, "I am only lloking at one of my hands," and imagine that you can see it, even if you are kind of pretending. After you can see one of your hands examine it for about 30 seconds. If the scene is holding together, then move on to looking around.
