Dream ending just as I realize I'm dreaming

So I had a lucid dream like 3 years ago but then I had no idea what it was and I couldn't control it well, now I have been trying for several months and yesterday night I went to sleep at 12AM, I woke up at 2:30AM and I saw a dream and remembered (is this normal btw? I thought you had to wait more hours usually to see a dream but whatever it doesn't matter I guess)

So I went and watched a movie for around 40 mins and went to sleep again, tried to WBTB but it didn't work, I just fell asleep normally, still remember seeing either several dreams or one/two very long ones. Then I woke up in the middle of the night and I tried to DIELD, it didn't work either, but I saw another dream, in the end of this I was downtown trying to go back home but I kept seeing things that didn't make sense so I was like
"Am I dreaming? Yes." Then I open my eyes!
I think this already happened twice, what do I do to not end the dream and actually experience lucid dreaming for more than a mere second?

once you become lucid, sit down, and touch the ground, breathe deeply. relax.

From what I've read, it normally takes about 4 hours to enter REM sleep and 'see' dreams. Everybody is different, however, so it may be normal for you.

One of the big things after becoming lucid is stabilizing the dream. I'd suggest that the moment you even think that the world you're in is a dream, perform some RCs and stabilize the dream. You can do this by merely touching objects, such as a table, a wall, or even the ground. From there, take control and enjoy the LD!

The first REM cycle can begin as soon as 90 minutes after falling asleep. They then become progressively longer as you sleep longer. You can also have dreams during nREM.

WakingNomad is on point with the solution. Making sure you relax right away is important and most people have a hard time with that on the first few times getting lucid because of the newness of the experience. So after a go or two, you will probably naturally calm down.
