      The Power of Playing Pretend

The purpose of this technique is to increase and prolong dream control, and incubate new powers.

The idea is to literally play pretend in waking life, as you did when you were a child.

There are two basic paths of doing this.

      Play Session

      1. Go somewhere private (outdoors seems to work better as its kind of more "neutral" than an indoor setting like your bedroom).

      2. Pretend you are dreaming.

      3. Do a Reality Check. Pretend that you are now lucid. Pretend you are very excited about having a lucid dream, and you remain calm.

      4. Now pretend you want to do a dream task, for example: shoot fireballs out of your hands.
In this example, what you would do is something like this: Rub your hands together until they become warm. Slowly move your hands apart, and imagine a fireball forming between your hands. Shoot the imaginary fireball at a target by extending your arm, and shouting, 'FIREBALL!" Imagine the smell of sulfur and smoke. Pretend there is a crackling sound to the fireball. Visualize the target getting hit, and bursting into flame. Pump your fist and say, "Yes! I rock! I love shooting fireballs in my lucid dreams!"

      5. Involve as much emotion, excitement, and adrenaline as you can, because this will make the play more memorable in your sub-c.

      6. To increase the adrenaline, excitement, emotion, here are some ideas: you may shout at the top of your lungs, run down a steep hill, blast some loud music, or anything that involves your body moving.

Your play session may last as long or as short as you wish.

We learn the fastest by doing. Of course, we probably can't shoot fireballs in waking life, but we can practice shooting dream fireballs in waking life.

This is a dream incubation technique which can be used to perform specific dream tasks, give yourself new powers, or practice the powers that you already have.

To further push your play deeper into your subconscious mind, and really stamp it on there, you want to involve as many senses as you can.

      Instant Power Play

You can do this anywhere, including in public.

The Instant Power Play works like this:

You are walking down the street, and something reminds you of lucid dreaming. You do an RC, and it fails. You pretend you are dreaming anyway. You quickly thrust out your arm toward a target, pretending to shoot a fireball at it. Visualize the fireball, smell it, feel it. Laugh triumphantly.

I have been using this second tech to work on my Heads-Up-Display I have in my dreams, and it's been working pretty well.

      Enjoy!

Lol, I was actually doing this today with my lightning generation technique.

I go around the house, looking at the metal doorknobs that are on most of the doors in my house, and "shock" them. I just imagine if someone else was on the other side...

It's thorough Reflection-Intention. I bet you stole it from my dream kata thread
I fill my heart with fire, with passion, passion for what makes me nostalgic. A unique perspective fuels my fire, makes me discover new passions, more nostalgia. I love it.

Yes, I agree you think that, and I've been doing this shit since around 1976, so probably not. In my opinion, whether you put a colon with a letter p at the end of a statement, or not, accusing me of stealing is pretty fuckin' rude.

So, first you accuse me of stealing, then you admit to it, then you deny it, then you say you're suspicious, then you say it's not your idea, then you call yourself a blessing?

Seriously, what the fuck? Are you done cyberstalking me across dreamviews yet?

This thread is in serious danger of having bunch of off-topic posts deleted.

      On another note:

it's not ok to accuse someone of stealing ideas. Not in one, but in two posts. It's a serious matter and we don't take it lightly.

This is a great idea, I do this when taking walks, when I was doing this a lot the powers did start showing up in both Lucius and non-lucids. It's a great way to build solid expectation.

Speak for yourself! I'm not willing to write off that possibility. I still suspect if you reverse the advice in your opening post, and practice shooting fireballs in a dream, just maybe...

I tried this while I was in the car with my sister and she seriously thought that I had lost my mind, but it was so much fun I didn't care. I even developed a new power technique in dreams for blowing shit up where I just snap my fingers and a person will explode and their blood and guts will fly everywhere. I tried it in a dream and it worked great idea wakingnomad.

I'd actually turn the whole method around, and instead play along in the dream itself. It'd probably be easier to exert dream control if 'the plot demands it', so to speak.

Yes mine is walking down the street/driving/whatever and imagining that with a thought/gesture I can make any person/object/building/mountains shoot quickly up into the air and into space and out of the dream. Also imagine mentally blowing stuff up, and also that I have infinitely variable length infinitly powered beams of energy that shoot out of my fingers (sort of like lightsabers emitting from my fingertips) that can cut even the largest monster/army to shreds in just a second by waving my hand back and forth a bit. Also fireballs. I once did shoot a stream of fire while lucid to scorch some nasty dream spiders that got me lucid through their freakiness (how's that for a thank you!?). Have yet to do this in a lucid but in non-lucids I have shot colored beams of energy and I try to shoot lightning (just did this last night while flying, fighting the evil flying attackers).

I have found that sometimes I actually have more power in non-lucids than lucid dreams. I think in lucid dreams sometimes I think too much of my waking life, which makes me feel limited. I like to incubate dreams and dream power without concern of lucidity.
