Need insight about semi-lucid dreams

Hello! I'm new to the site, but I've been thinking about my dreams for awhile now and I'm seeking some answers or insight. Basically, I have had semi-lucid dreams since I was a child. I remember one out of control dream as a child and something just snapped: I went nope, that's not happening again! And since then my dreams have just made sense. I met a guide as a teen, although I haven't seen him at all in the past few years. I guess his work was done? =/

Anyway, my dreams occasionally have some fantastical element, but I always "wake" in the dreams and simply accept what I'm dreaming about as the reality. While "I" have some control over the dream while in the dream, I feel more like I'm watching myself act than causing the actions. Sort of like when you're watching a horror movie and you know that it's a fake thing played out by actors, but you still get scared.

I can explain every single thing that happens in my dreams and I never have anything surreal. Heck, even if I have a fangirl dream it takes a lot for me to not see the person as their actor.

Any insight here on how to let go and/or regain that control while still having a fantastical element of dreams? Thanks!

There are no such things as semi-lucid dreams. You either know that you are dreaming or not.

^^ Unless you consider "semi-lucid" to mean dreams where you are aware that you are in a dream, but you lack enough self-awareness or memory to really solidify your self in the dream. In other words, you know it's a dream you're in, but you still can't really remember who you are, your dream goals, or that you have a sleeping body somewhere else, and you cannot exercise any control (you don't even think to do so). So, since you're not completely lucid, not even in a low-level manner, but you still have a sense that you are in a dream, you are semi-lucid....It happens to me all the time, BTW.

Though it isn't exactly what you're talking about, SG, I think it's pretty close. Sadly, I have no answer for you (or me). The downside of lucidity is that you cannot avoid knowing that the stuff going on isn't real. This is especially annoying in semi-lucids, where control and memory are missing, because a part of you -- the semi-not-lucid part, I guess -- wants the dream to be real, but you know better.

The best way out of this is to become more lucid, so you can enjoy the benefits of being fully self-aware in a dream. Otherwise, this is a puzzle. Sivason started a thread a while back that you might check out, called Re-Exploring the World of Non-Lucid Dreaming.

ill put this nice sweet and short... for me what makes a lucid dream semi, is that once i become lucid....something will grab my attention, and my lucidity will shift and get wrapped up with the action of whatever the fuck is going on, thus losing bits of my lucidity lowering my conscious level, my take

How do you get those "semi-lucids" into a state of being fully lucid? I had 13 lucids now (only 2 were longer than 2 seconds, about 2 minutes) but both felt like i was just dreaming about being lucid, the second one was a littlebit better tho. Any advice? Or just practice practice practice? :rolllaugh:

My most beautiful dream, maybe ever, was a semi-lucid - never again did I produce such a beautiful dream. Guess, because I didn't try to interfere with my dream-generator, and really let my unconscious roam free. Hach - soo beautiful..
Doesn't happen anymore, though - I'm either lucid or not.

This time, Lucidmats, the answer is "Practice, practice, practice!"

If you are semi-lucid -- or simply dreaming that you are lucid -- early in your LD'ing journey, that is a good thing. It tells me that your dreaming mind is already tuning in to your interest in LD'ing. So give yourself more time, and stay focused on your daytime work. I also suggest that you look into doing MILD, if you haven't already. MILD works really well when your dreams are already hinting that they might work with you.

So see this as a first step and build on it...oh yeah, and keep up the practice! ;)

Will do :) Before i go to sleep i visualize and with every RC I say my mantra, so a little MILD mixed in. The second one was a lot better than the first one, soo success yeahh :D I have the feeling that i will be able to practice tonight and hopefully get my first fully LD soon!

Well i tried FILD and became lucid, but only to find out that I couldn't open my eyes. I tried harder and saw a mixture of a purple cloudy sky and my room. :( should I visualize with closed eyes, or try to stabilize by rubbing my hands, awareness, ... ? :confused:

Maybe you should take a moment to remember that you have no eyes that need opening in a dream?

Instead of trying to open your eyes, try just relaxing and letting your dream form on its own (sounds like it was trying to do so). Go ahead and visualize as well, but this too is done without the help of physical eyes.

I know this sounds simplistic, but these instructions to "open your eyes" in some of the tutorials can get a bit confusing sometimes; even when it is understood that you're not really opening your eyes, you still can't get the concept of physically opening your eyes out of your head, so you wind up waking up or seeking a physical function that's been shut off for sleep (vision).

So next time just enjoy the unfolding dream, and don't worry about opening your eyes.
