      Dream control problems

Hey guys, sudden great progress here, 3 DILDs in a row over the past 3 days. Very unexpected since I'm bad at LDing, and much worse at DILDs. I should be happy, I kinda am, except for one important and very frustrating thing, dream control..

In these past 3 LDs, control has been awfully difficult for some reason, specifically summoning someone and changing the environment. I've tried some techniques like spinning (it doesn't really work as I heard it should, when I stop spinning I'm in the same place, only it's darker, then suddenly the place changes without me even noticing), opening doors and expecting to find what I want (worked only once and not exactly as I wanted), and turning around and expecting to find what I want (worked only once, the first time, awful results these past 3 LDs).

This might be wrong, but I'm thinking the problem is not the technique but the mental/emotional state. I keep hearing expectations/knowing that something will happen is vital, not doubting is vital, but I find it so difficult to know something will happen that is so unlikely to happen in the reality I'm used to. To not doubt one bit and expect with certainty for something to happen.
I'm not sure why the turning around technique worked almost flawlessly the very first time, maybe because I didn't stress over it and didn't doubt? I remember just doing it without worrying and only thinking about it for like a second. What do you think, could it be an emotional problem as opposed to a technique problem?

Should note that every time I failed at dream control I did get frustrated and other negative emotions, I'm guessing that's the main problem but would like some opinions, thanks.

You are right about the mental state or feeling being important and not the technique. Maybe reading other people's dream journals will help because you read about people doing crazy things. Maybe reading this guide about transformation will show you what crazy things people do in lucid dreams to help you with expecting things to happen.

Also, instead of trying and trying and wasting lucid time, you can just do something else. There are enough things you can do without control. Like looking around for weird stuff, talking to DCs, maybe somebody has something interesting to say. You might even find a DC or an item to help you out with control.

Here are some dream journals you might like
      These are all by Hukif
A big ass 131 page dream journal by Hukif, one of the top LDers on this forum
An awesome dream of Hukif, an epic fight with a dragon
Here are some dreams in spoiler tags
      Some more fighting = D

This one from Hyu, he sees new colors and has insanely enhanced vision

In the end I didn't really help you, I have never had proper dream control But I came up with a idea just now, since dream control is an issue for myself, too. Next time I get lucid and I remember to do this, I will just sit down and look around. Not care about the dream ending and missing an opportunity to do crazy things, I will just sit down and notice everything around me and feel at home in my dream, maybe it will increase stability and control.

You can also join the stabillization and control class, maybe they can help you out in there.

And gongratulations on your 3 lucids in a row

The mental state you have is definitely important, everybody has a technique they prefer but having a good mindset is what's most important.

I like Ginsan's advice to read dream journals, I recommend Hyu's and CanisLucidus's DJs:

Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views - Hyu's Adventures - Dream Journals
Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views - CanisLucidus - Dream Journals

You can also use tv, books, movies, and video games for help. Say you play a game where you can fly, you can use that to make your mind more comfortable with the idea of flying being possible. Dream powers can sometimes take a bit to get a hang of, so I think what you experienced at first was normal but then it made this negative expectation and mindset, which is understandable.

Denial is handy in dream control, if something isn't going exactly right just deny/ignore it and act like everything is fine, this can solve the problem a lot of the time. There's also verbal dream commands and narrating what you're doing.

If you run into this problem again try not to get too frustrated, if it's not working move on to something else like Ginsan said. Even if you're stuck in your neighborhood you can still have fun by going into all of your neighbor's houses and seeing what's inside. Maybe you'll run into an interesting dream character that will lead to a neat adventure.

Even some of the best lucid dreamers run into dream control problems, so don't worry about it, you'll get there.

You might have already listened to this podcast episode but in case you didn't, it has some good advice on dream control: http://www.dreamviews.com/dreamviews...-sleepers.html

You're not bad at lucid dreaming, it just takes practice. So keep working on LDing and dream control and keep us updated

It's funny you say that, actually, because flying for me, for some reason seems more natural than walking when I become lucid. I do it without even thinking, I rarely walk when I'm lucid, just floating above the ground like a ghost, lol. Even flying high and fast like Superman, it's strangely easy to me.
