Watching movies / playing video games in a dream

      Hello everyone!

A few nights ago, I had a non-lucid dream where I sat down to play a video game with some friends, and I ended up inside the game -- a kind of seamless transition that I didn't really notice. More recently, I had a lucid dream in which I logged on to YouTube on my computer to find a clip from the movie "Avatar", hoping that the same thing would happen. However, the video ended up being of a bleak cyberpunk world, so although I did end up inside it, it wasn't all that fun.

So my question is: have any of you had the experience of getting caught up in movies or video games? Can you use it as an effective way of controlling your dream?

I've never used anything like this but I have concerns.

Getting involved with dream plots can be a lucidity killer. I'd try to teleport to your desired location. One method of teleportation is too open a door and expect your dream scene to be on the other side.

Lucidity is the main basis for dream control when you think about it. You can use these particular dreams as a sign to gain lucidityand then play the game or role in the movie as you please after an effective reality check. Do you have a lot of LDing experience?

This happens to me all the time, I can't recall a single dream where a form of entertainment doesn't leak in to my "reality"
      Lucid or not...

      Things I've done while Lucid:

      - Flying - Dream Rewind and Fast Forward
      - Invisibility - Shapeshifting - Grown Wings
      - Summoning [mastered (?)] - Zip lining
      - Fireball

I have been in a ton of video-games in dreams over the years. In fact I dream about Starcraft BW (and occasionally SC2) so much that I could probably consider it a dream-sign. It seems highly realistic and I tend to lose far more than I win. Sometimes I am in the SC universe but am in first person instead of third. Those tend to be much more fun and satisfying.

I definitely have had some of my best dream control moments in video game dreams because there simply isn't any scrap of doubt in my mind about what is or isn't possible.

often in a dream i will walk into a movie theater and as you said, i transition into the movie for an almost new dream without noticing the transition at all. once, also non-lucid, i went on a morpg, opened up a realmlist, selected a name of a place i wanted to go, hit enter, and i arrived there after a loading screen. so what happens to you also happens to me, and i think you can use it for dream control, it might be what you need if you find other methods hard for teleporting, and it dosent necessarily have to drag you out of lucidity.

I played Dwarf Fortress today in a non-lucid. I could only see the screen, but I also was speaking to some friend of mine at the same time ( "Whoa, you lucker! Your dwarves spawned near a volcano!" ) It's happened to me before, like playing a zombie game in another non lucid and not seeing anything else than the game, but at one time I glanced down at the keyboard to lower the volume. It looked pretty weird, like if it had been zoomed in a lot.

Last night I had a lucid dream in which I saw my best friend playing Socom 4 and I plainly stated that I was stealing his controller because I was lucid dreaming. I started playing and instantly got sucked inside the game. It was awesome beyond words.

That's exactly what it's like for me, even with movies or television shows. The two worlds just seem to merge together

Something this has happened to me before. It was strange. I was viewing the game as if I was playing it, but at the same time I was somehow communicating with one of the characters as if I was there.

I've had a dream where I was watching two of my friends and a DC play a really old version of Street Fighter (2 v 1 on the same screen. That's not possible. xD)

I didn't really go into the videogame persay (maybe because there wasn't much plot or anything?) but my dream did seem to make the t.v screen go widescreen in my mind. (Much like you would make a Youtube video become widescreen on your laptop.)

I've had dreams that have a cinematic atmosphere and in which I become one of the characters. Sometimes the dream is based off of a real movie or anime or whatever, and sometimes they aren't. The weird part is, I control these kinds of dreams even when I'm not really lucid. This tends to happen when I sleep in. My mind keeps returning to the parts of the dream that I think are the coolest, and then I realize that I'm dreaming since I was already controlling the dream... if that makes any sense.

That happened to me once. I don't remember it very well but I definitely could control my dream even though it was non-lucid. I kept going back to parts of the dream I wanted to change and I was making dicisions about what should happen next.

      ^That sounds so cool. xD
(I'm surprised you didn't realize you were dreaming though, considering the fact that you pretty much going back in time over and over. Not...that I would have either. Haha)

It's amazing how long it takes me to figure out that I've been controlling the dream all along. But I've never tried to purposefully place myself in a video game world or a movie world after becoming lucid. I usually just improvise with what my dream gives me.

Please refrain from necro-posting (especially with spam). This discussion has been done for about 4 years now.
