I can make them last as long as 5 minutes! Dreams with both a morning and an evening, though, can give the illusion they're lasting a whole day, especially if it's a long dream.
Considering studies that indicate that time perception can be skewed in a lucid dream when performing certain tasks, not to mention the array of memory and perception tricks that can distort your evaluation of the duration of an experience in waking life itself, the real question is probably "how long do you feel your lucid dreams can last?"
Thats spot on, its Time Dilation, and it works. Though my longest LD has only been around 3 hours or so, Im shooting to do Time Dilation in my next LD. A member on here, Hukif, has lived seperate lives on the dream world. He's stayed there for years, and when he came back it was only an hour in waking life.Quote:

I have no clue how to do time dilation, but I've heard of dudes doing dreams that felt like 2 years to a LIFE TIME, that's crazy, a life time, waking up as your younger self, that would be insane. So there you go, youre basically limitless. So far I'd have to say that my dreams have felt like they've lasted around 2-7 minutes. I haven't kept track but that's how it felt.
I've had a lucid dream before that I didn't try to really control too much, and it was a whole lifetime as if I had stayed with my ex, and I was living that whole life
I went to sleep once at 12:00 midnight and woke up 2 minutes later (I managed to check clock before and after.. fell asleep straight away) and in that time I had a dream that felt like it lasted 2 hours.
I don't know how to artificially increase time duration so if anyone ever works out how, let me know :)
sry it took along time to respond. thanks for answering my question.:)
I think it's a very interesting question/idea.
My first lucid dreams were very short, they seem to become longer now(subjectively).
Only the idea of being in a lucid dream for days or even years, awesome. :happyme:
I hope there is more information about this, or methods to increase dream time.
Hukif has a few methods that he has used to dilate time. I haven't seen him on DV in a while, but one technique he taught me was to close one eye and count to 60. As you got closer and closer to 60 you were supposed to feel time slowing down. It was alot more detailed than that, I'll have to check it out again.
science seems to demonstrate in experiments dreams are in real time
Psychophysiology of Lucid Dreaming

We have straightforwardly approached the problem of dream time by asking subjects to estimate ten second intervals (by counting, "one thousand and one, one thousand and two, etc.") during their lucid dreams. Signals marking the beginning and end of the subjective intervals allowed comparison with objective time. In all cases, time estimates during the lucid dreams were very close to the actual time between signals (LaBerge, 1980a, 1985). However, this finding does not rule out the possibility of time distortion effects under some circumstances.

That sounds awesome! O.O
As for the study, an REM cycle can last an hour and thirty minutes. That doesn't mean a Lucid Dream can't last a year imo.
How do we perceive time? Is the only correct perception of time the one we base in reality? Why do some of us think that Lucid Dreaming is simply a fading memory of a dream as opposed to the solid memories from waking life (which can sometimes be just as fuzzy).
Yeah, time dilation is most definitely a thing. Hukif's successes led me to perform my own tests way back when. Longest I've been able to push subjective-time is about 6-8 hours within a ~30 minute period real-time. But shit leaves ya with a nasty headache, in my experience. XD
