keeping one helped me to remember alot more detail about my dreams therefore making it appear as if i increased my lucidity
I agree. The dream journal is your best bet. It makes thinking about your dreams a habit. Even if you're a lazy bastard with me and always get too sidetracked to write in your journal, you'll notice the difference in your dream recall. The less attention you pay to your dreams (ie: writing them down in your journal) the harder it will be for you to remember even non-lucid dreams, let alone the, far less common, lucid ones.
That's the exact reason why I've just dove write back into writing in my journal again. My recall is still almost one dream per night, but it's been slipping and I know writing in my dream journal will keep my focused on remembering my dreams. This way, while you're dreaming, you're instinctually be more aware of them and have a greater chance of becoming lucid.

Also, if you don't know this yet...
When you first wake up, don't move at all, just lay there recalling what you can of your dream, and when your sure you've remembered a sufficiant amount of it, THEN get up and write it down in your dream journal.
